Yeah, someone actually said something insane like that about Drew not too long ago. Noone will ever be like him. Ever.Does JN remind anyone else of Barry Sanders?Never again will there be... never again
Here are Brandon Jacobs' stats for his first two years of his career, both of which were with Tiki as the primary RB. What kind of guide do you think that this provides for analyzing Snelling's work in Atlanta?I concur . . .Very good chance for thisI wonder where, if at all, Snelling fits in at Atlanta. He's a big RB, and it seems not much is expected form him, but I think he is something of a dark horse in the race for carries, especially at the goal line. I think he could be very much in the mix. As has been mentioned, Petrino likes a big back, something neither Norwood or Dunn are not, given the caveat that both seem to be able to run inside fairly effectively. I think there is a fairly good chance that Snelling could be a TD hawk, similar to what Jacobs did for the Giants last year.![]()

What makes you say that? Why would goalline opportunities be swallowed up by Norwood just because Dunn is healthy? I hope you're right, but it doesn't make sense to me.Guys - If Warrick is back and healthy with Norwood splitting, then there will be very little opportunity for Snelling (and that includes goalline). Most anything near the goal line will be swallowed up by Norwood with an occasional chance for Snelling here and there. Main point: Don't count on Snelling as a vulture because it isn't worth it.
Given this was last year with Mora, ATL liked to pass to the RB's a good bit in the red zone. When Dunn and Norwood were banged up, they passed to the fullback a decent bit. So if Dunn and Norwood can stay healthy I imagine they have no threat of Snelling since Dunn and Norwood are better play makers than Snelling and you need to keep your play makers on the field. What makes you say that? I acknowledge Norwood's young, but neither he nor Dunn have shown to date that they are good goalline ball carriers, and they're both below average in terms of size for RB's, very much so in the case of Dunn. Add to that that Petrino is a guy who historically has favored large-sized RB's (much like Coughlin in NY, BTW) and I think this it's far from certain that Snelling is not involved in the goalline carries.Given this was last year with Mora, ATL liked to pass to the RB's a good bit in the red zone. I have been researching this a little more and i think that i have to amend my statements. Snelling may actually steal some goal line carries because of his ability to push the pile and hit it strong inside. If Norwood does falter in the forst few weeks as not being able to run in between the tackles, then i suppose there is a better chance Snelling gets more work in the red. I hope this is not the case because I have high expectations for Jerious. Oh yes, one more thing. Can people stop saying Jerious is to small, or too fragile!! I think he's 6'0 even, and he put some more wieght on in the offseason...up to 211lbs. if I am not mistaken. Couple this with the fact that he is a fluid back, and i think he can avoid the type of hits that, say, an LJ or a Gore may be subject to.I acknowledge Norwood's young, but neither he nor Dunn have shown to date that they are good goalline ball carriers, and they're both below average in terms of size for RB's, very much so in the case of Dunn. While not "small", this is not a large size at all. It's average to below average, and among RB's who get goalline carries, it's definitely below average, by as much as 15-20 pounds. For perspective, Clinton Portis who has gotten banged up almost every year as a feature back is 5'11" and 212 (nfl.com lists him at 223 which is ludicrous). Norwood weighs a tad less and is taller. As for being a "fluid back", unless your name is Marcus Allen I'm not buying that you can avoid contact at the goalline. Again, Norwood has yet to show that. I'm not saying he can't, just that he hasn't.I have been researching this a little more and i think that i have to amend my statements. good point. i was thinking more generally between the 20's he will be able to avoid the big contact (to a degree). But, yes, at the goalline you gotta hit it staright on. your opinion, so you are entitled to it. but i will say you are going to be surprised.I don't even need to really analyze how good Norwood is. Just look at that offense right now- Norwood is really handcuffed by that pathetic offense. I don't see many scoring opps or many productive drives. The most proven guy on the offense is Norwood's aging and injured competition at RB. After Dunn, the most proven guy is Joey Harrington. Its just a sad state of affairs in ATL.
I have to ask, why are you so certain? Petrino's a first year head coach without the QB who he was building his offense around all spring and with a two-time retread to replace him. He's a guy who loves big RB's and a power running game, but is inheriting a smallish, more finesse oriented Alex Gibbs-built run blocking line and his top two RB's are 210 lbs. or less as we've been discussing. His WR corps is one of the worst in the league. What's there to be optimistic about?your opinion, so you are entitled to it. but i will say you are going to be surprised.I don't even need to really analyze how good Norwood is. I hope so because I have him as my #3 RB in 2 keeper leagues.Norwood is the truth. Should be fun to see how he does against the Vikings in Week 1. If he can run on that D, it'll be a good sign.
Here's to 1000 yards and 10 scores for Mr. Norwood.![]()
Disclaimer: I've been driving the Norwood bandwagon for awhile now.
