I did an 8 team auction last night. It's difficult to find playoff sites to do mock drafts at this time of year so I went in with very little prep. With a $300 budget some guys were insane (Le'Veon $146, Brady & Ben both over $125, AB over $100, etc).
I ended up with:
QB Alex Smith
RB Alvin Kamara
RB Rex Burkhead
WR Stefon Diggs
WR Tyreek Hill
WR Adam Thielen
Flex Ted Ginn Jr
Utility (Any position) Marcus Mariota
PK Wil Lutz
Def Pittsburgh
I'm not too thrilled with it, but the initial onslaught of players was crazy. Ben, Brady, LeVeon, AB, etc all went up for bid early on and I wasn't comfortable spending 1/3 to 1/2 of my budget on 1 player. I ended up getting Alex Smith for $50 when Brady and Ben went for over $125. So unless KC is a 1 and done, it's unlikely that Brady or Ben provide more than 2.5x the points that Alex does since they would only be playing 3 games at most compared to Alex most likely playing 2.
Burkhead was a guy that was thrown out there very late. I think people are a little scared off with him. But their offense hasn't been as good without him and Gilislee is banged up now after being a healthy scratch for most of the season. Martavis Bryant was another guy that lasted a while. He's got a high ceiling if AB has difficulty coming back from his injury. Likewise I was high on Smith-Schuster but he was far more expensive than I was comfortable with.
I think most teams felt the same way about what teams to target. Very few teams were willing to go after TEN, BUF, ATL players. CAR seemed to be a bit more in demand than the rest. Julio still went for a high amount of course because he has the superstar name. If you think some of these teams could make it to round 2 there is certainly value there and guys are likely to fall a bit. I think TEN is really the only team I'm giving no shot to advancing. I think BUF has the easiest matchup for underdogs, CAR/NO is a divisional game that could go CAR's way if they're clicking and ATL could get hot and playing a young LAR team.
I like the playoff version of Fantasy much more because of all of the unknowns. You need to correctly predict the post-season AND get value at players of need on those teams. The only other time I played in a money post-season league was 1998 when I was 14 and played against my father and his co-workers (I won, thanks Ed McCaffrey).
