Playoff WW Defense to have is..... (1 Viewer)

There were a lot of good defensive matchups for week 15 & 16 on my wire(I have a bye this week)
Week 15:
Went with Lions at AZ. Even though the Lions are givng up a bunch of points, they are creating turnovers and my league gives 2 points for each. If they can pressure AZ, I think they can get a pick 6 as well.
Week 16:
Went with SD at NYJ's. I'm thinking this is a low scoring affair based onthe Jet's pitiful offense.
SD also gets a lot of turnovers each game.
We'll see
Week 15:

Have Cinci right now, but Cleveland and Tampa are both on the wire. Leaning toward Tampa.

I'm starting cincy over tb. Cincys def is legit (double digit scoring in my league 4 weeks in a row). Bryce brown looks legit so worried about tampa

Eh. I guess so. Look at who they've been playing and you'll see why. I think the Bengals will be up there with one of the best defenses they've faced all year and its in Cincy. I expect multiple Romoceptions. I can't decide between Cincy and the Jets defense this week. The Jets have another great matchup, but if your offense is throwing INT's all day to the defense then the Jags are bound to put up points. I'll probably roll with Cincy this week as well.

League one: Green Bay, Cincy, and Miami. I like all 3 matchups for Cincy: Cowboys, Eagles, Steelers. Green Bay I'm holding for week 16 vs Tenn. Week 15 at Chicago could be nice as they had a great week early in the season against the Bears, but I'll likely pass on starting them. Miami has beautiful playoff schedule at home vs Jacksonville and then Buffalo. I'm lining up choices and will decide later.

Desperate for a week 15 D to replace the 49ers. Leaning towards the Rams (vs Vikings). Looking for some thoughts on this pick.

Bills (vs Seahawks)
Raiders are intriguing based on the fact that they are playing KC, but they are dead last in Team D scoring.

rams have been rostered for awhile. CLV is available...I know they have a sweet matchup with KC this week but after that it looks rough. WAS and DEN. I have a bye week this week or CLV might be on my roster for the KC game...
I'm worried about the Bears D for fantasy playoffs... injuries to Urlacher/Jennings, as well as to the receiving corps, which may mean a lot of three-and-outs and leaving the defense on the field a bit too much. Should I get a back-up D? There's plenty on the WW: Patriots for weeks 16-17, Jets, Dolphins for weeks 15-16...

me too. i am going to go with them this week against the harvinless vikings and hope peterson doesn't break 200.week 16 they are in arizona, so will probably be ok there.i am going to have to find a fill in in week 15 against the pack though.

they will def be good vs ARZ and should be fine for MIN. I agree you should not play them against the pack. The worst part is CHI def wont be the force they have been during the whole season, which I am guessing helped quite a few teams to the playoffs...
Agreed, I might sub out the Bears for weeks 15 (vs GB) and 17 (@Det).

I would condsider rolling with CLE this week and picking up either DET or TEN for next week. DET is @ ARI, and TEN is home on Monday night v NYJ.

Idk, I like nyj against ten next week more than ten vs nyj. Ten has been turning it over alot. With arz going back to Skelton, not sure det is a good play either
Yeah, I was surprised too. Seventh year commishing a league of mostly savvy owners. Guy who dropped DEN also dropped McCoy when he got hurt (we have small benches, but not that small). But hey, he's in the playoffs. If DEN does well tonight, I'm hoping to get the chance to ride them. Reward for winning the regular season is facing the bottom seed / hottest team, who's favored. Palmer will throw a ton tonight, hoping one or two get taken back to the house.Huh? "There's not much on the WW" but Denver is available?In my league, which has fairly standard D scoring, they are 5th overall for the season. I would just get them and ride them the rest of the way. Sure, Baltimore at home isn't a great matchup, but I still think they're elite enough that they're a must start. And you're really going to sit them at home against Brandon Weeden in Week 16? For a middling defense like Miami, with a so-so matchup vs Buffalo? Seriously?

Tough one, Sanchez is the absolute worst, and I like the TEN Monday Night aspect of the play as well. ARZ at home, I also think Skelton will make fewer mistakes than Lindley.

This is a fantastic thread. Thank you to [icon] for it. Partly on the posts of this thread I dropped the Patriots defense and picked up the Jets. I like all three matchups that they have going forward.
I don't have a backup defense, but because it is so popular here, I'm weighing releasing Justin Blackmon for a 2nd defense, just in case. I wish I'd thought of this sooner. Lesson learned for next year to take playoff schedules for defenses seriously.

Was looking at Seattle for wk 14 against AZ but with Skelton back not so sure a lock. Any thoughts?
I had been planning to ride the Denver & Patriots DST, but with Denver basically being average the last 3 weeks, I am forced to re-think this. They play the Ravens next week, and for all the poor play they have been putting up lately, the Ravens are usually better in December, and are not likely to be a good matchup. I will be watching the Pats this week to see how they do vs the Texans. If they can do pretty well, then I might roll with them vs the Niners in week 15. Capernick is not immune from effing up, as we all saw vs the Rams. I think Fisher has Harbs' #, but still, that Pats DST has come on lately.
So, if I hold both of the teams above, then I should find the best matchup for week 15. Like most, I think the choices are Lions, Jets, Titans, Dolphins. Only which one? I am inclined to roll with the Jets, but who knows?

What about Buff at home in the cold and rain vs the Rams? They have been coming on as of late.
I think it has to be Jets. We will see this week. They play an offense that is 25th vs DST (Jax) this week, and next week they will play the 27th or 28th (Titans). So if they have a good game vs Jax this week, it should tell a lot about what they can do vs the Titans

agree. sanchez turned it over all game long and they only gave up 2 FGs jax is going to be on their 2nd QB, 3rd RB, and minus shorts this week. Tenn has a banged up oline and does not score much anyway.SD has the turnover machine known as rivers.wont find much better matchups then these 3
Think I'm going with them as well. They would have had a better day last week had Fitz not thrown a pick in their territory and special teams not muff a punt, resulting in TDs.

The problem is that the Jets generate almost no pass rush.Cromartie has been great, but you can pick on Wilson. TEs and speedy RBs will them, too. I would be confident against Jax, not that much against Ten. Rivers has been mystifying this year, so he might be good for a couple of bonehead plays, but they still have some good weapons. I would look for better options in week 16 and 17.

I'm not saying I like the dolphins d when they play the Jags but I think you have your qbs mixed up. Sure the offense is a lot better with Henne but he actually takes shots and turns the ball over. Gabbert on the other hand gets rid of the ball very quickly and checks down a lot because he's scared of being hit. As a result Gabbert rarely turns the ball over.
That all may be true, but the fact remains that Tenn is a great matchup for Fantasy Defenses. If you look at the Jets PPG over the last 4 weeks you see that they have averaged close to 8 points, and that is only because they played the Pats. The other 3 games, they scored double digits. Tenn is giving up an average of 10 points to each Fantasy Defense they face. Seems like a double digit score waiting to happen to me.I would say that the Titans fantasy defense vs the Jets could be a great play on the flip side, however they are not scoring when they have a good matchup. I think that is what you have to look at. When a fantasy defense has a good match up...are they taking advantage of that match up. The Jets definitely are. When you add in the accuracy issues for Locker, you can see at least a 10 point outing

I don't disagree with you. I unfortunately watch them every week. The Jets should do alright. They usually do against the lesser teams. I just think there will be better options out there. Since the offense is inept, other teams can go conservative for most of the game. Just look at how they did at home against Arizona and Lindley (2 sacks and 1 INT). Double digit points when you factor in the Points Against, but with Sanchez, you never know when he is going to have a pick-six or multiple turnovers that lead to points against, especially on the road.

That's what I was thinking. I have a very short bench (5 spots), so carrying 2 defensive teams really puts me out. Not only that, in the playoffs, my league prevents all free agent transactions except for injury. I feel like I need depth at other positions, just in case because of this, though I'd like to carry a 2nd defense. But with three pretty bad matchups, the Jets seem like they could be the most consistently safe option for weeks 14-16 (I really really hope).
