Scoring league (not roto), 12 team mixed. Start 25, 7 reserves.

Starting requirements -

2 C, 1 1B, 1 2B, 1 SS, 1 3B, 1 MI, 1 CI, 5 OF, 2 UT (any position including OF), 10 P (SP or RP doesn't matter).

C - Doumit, Saltalamacchia, Teagarden ®

1B - Loney

2B - Utley, F Lopez ®

3B - Zimmerman

SS - M Young

MI - Y Escobar

CI - J Cantu

OF - Crawford, Bay, Hermida, Ankiel, Spilborghs, Lind ®, Fowler ®

UT - Snider, Kubel

P - Peavy, Wainwright, Lackey, Danks, Scherzer, Pelfrey, E Jackson, Nathan, Broxton, M Gonzalez, Guthrie ®, Gallagher ®, Masterson ®

So there were 32 rounds, you can keep a guy the next year 3 rounds higher than you drafted him this year. So I kept Bay with a 6th Round Pick, Wainwright (9), Broxton (18) and Danks (24).

I am generally happy with the results, but with the 10th pick I will need a little luck. What do you like, where do i need to improve?

It looks to be, at best, a middle of the road team. Very little power, very little speed, and some seriously questionable SP. Your closers look strong, but they're closers. That'd be my first point of business; make some deals by packaging up a player that is currently starting for you and a closer for an upgrade. I'd start at 1B, 3B or OF.

Speed looks like it's going to be an issue, Crawford's the only one you can expect > 10 from. HR's too, don't seem to be as big of an issue as steals though.

Solid pitching staff, not sure if there's an IP limit but if there is I'd plan to deal some pieces away to help your offense. No closers though, at least not before you acquire one off waivers in season.

pitching looks ok. I think your hitting looks very light for a 12 team league. I see very few power hitters on your roster.

Kind of what I was thinking. Here is the scoring system -

Scoring for Batting Categories

1B - Singles 5 points

2B - Doubles 10 points

3B - Triples 15 points

AST - Assists 0.1 points

BB - Walks (Batters) 3 points

CS - Caught Stealing -5 points

E - Errors -10 points

HP - Hit by Pitch 3 points

HR - Home Runs 20 points

KO - Strikeouts (Batter) -1 point

O - Outs-batters -2 points

PO - Put Outs 0.1 points

R - Runs 5 points

RBI - Runs Batted In 5 points

SB - Stolen Bases 10 points

Scoring for Pitching Categories

BBI - Walks Issued (Pitchers) -3 points

ER - Earned Runs -10 points

HA - Hits Allowed -5 points

HB - Hit Batsmen -3 points

HD - Holds 5 points

INN - Innings 15 points

K - Strikeouts (Pitcher) 3 points

L - Losses -15 points

S - Saves 30 points

W - Wins 30 points

I figure (based on last years results), that this could be anywhere from a first place to a 5th place team....IF EVERYTHING goes right. Obviously the lack of true power hitters in going to hurt. Also with pitching, last year i won the league but my pitching was makeshift...this year I tried to get better pitching, but walking away from the draft it looks adequate at best.

Who were your first two picks? I know keepers are involved but unless the talent pool was severely weakened, I don't see a great talent base to start. I assume you picked Utley at #10 which is fine but who did you pick in the 2nd and 3rd? If you can keep players 3 rounds before they were drafted last year, then would that mean players in the first 2-3 rounds last year can't be kept?

Correct. I took Utley, Peavy, Lackey with my first three picks. Due to the quirkiness of scoring, pitchers rack up a lot of points. So using last year for instance, the top 7 scorers in our system were -SabathiaLincecumHalladayLeeSantanaFF RodriguezPujolsSo the highest scoring hitter was only the 7th best overall scorer.Like I said, I know this team will be a work in progress. I am used to roto scoring in which the team i drafted would be garbage...but in this scoring system it may at least be competitive. I am going to run the numbers tonight now that the draft is done to see how it stacks up.

Bro, i hate to say it, but this team looks awful. Aside from Utley, you do not have a top 15 player at ANY other position. Maybe Zimmerman is top 10 at 3rd. You also have the weakest of the elite pitchers in Peavy. Lackey is solid as well as danks, but after that you have all question marks. This could be a last place team. Just one persons assesment, though.

That is why I am asking for perspective. Obviously if I thought guys sucked I wouldn't have drafted them, that is why I put it out here for others to give me a better perspective. As for not having any top 10s, you may be right...however, based on projections for our scoring system...here are the players that I have that are top 10 at their position -C - Doumit (6)1B - none2B - Utley (1)3B - Zimmerman (squeaks in at 10)SS - Young (6)MI - Escobar not too badCI - Cantu not too badOF - Bay (8), Crawford 20 something, the rest are so soUT - too hard to tell, anyone qualifiesP - Peavy (6)...but 8 of my pitchers are in the top 60, so I am not too worried about pitching.I agree, though that this team will require some trades to challenge for a top 5 finish.

Tell me what you think of this team (that projects best in our league scoring) -

Varitek, Martin, Wieters ®

Berkman

B Roberts

Longoria

H Ramirez

H Kendrick

J Lowrie

Dunn, Quentin, Dye, Holliday, Choo

D Murphy, Fields, Cuddyer ®, Winn ®, LaPorta ®

Myers, Gio Gonzalez, H Bell, J Hanrahan, JO Sanchez, M Parra, Cain, Lincecum, U Jimenez, Morrow, Carmona ®, T Hansom ®

Given the scoring you indicated, I'll agree with others that speed and SPs are your biggest issues, given a 12 team league.
