Portable video camera (1 Viewer)

Does anyone use a portable video camera anymore?  Thinking about it while watching my daughters basketball game and trying to record some action on my phone...which the quality sucks.  
 

are there any portable sized video cameras made for video that don’t make you look like an everyday tourist in your own town?

Buy a new phone, they have amazing cameras these days.

This morning I just bought (on Amazon) a small video camera for covering my kids Marching Band. I bought a fairly cheap one for ~$89, it only has 1080p, but I just needed something quick to test to see if it will work for what I want at a competition this weekend. If it's not great, I may return it and go for something a bit better (more $$$) One thing I was looking for was something that can be controlled (at least starting/stopping the recording) via remote or phone so that I can have it in the stands and start it while I take regular pictures on the field. 

Look around on Amazon and there are tons of cameras. Everything is small (palm sized). Look at reviews and questions, and I will report back on what I get this weekend.
