Portis Production Under Saunders (1 Viewer)

Clinton Portis has never had more then 40 receptions in a year.... but Al Saunders offence has been very productive to the receiving numbers of his running backs.

Even an average receiver at best in LJ pulled in 33 passes last year in less then a full year (which is more then Clinton had all year (30)).

With Saunders calling the shots this year, can we expect Clinton to be more involved in the passing game?

Is it too much to assume Clinton can break 50 receptions, this year.

No, it is the Rec and TD department that I have been expecting the largest gains in Portis' numbers all along. Saunders will use the RBs a heck of a lot more in the passing game than we saw last year. There were only 42 Rec total for Wash RBs last year. The main thing to remember is that Cooley was playing as a H-Back though and his role was significantly raised last year. Saunders will use Cooley as a more traditional TE and thus open up far more Rec ops for RBs. Portis is the lead RB and should see the brunt of those ops. I think 50 Rec is a good estimate. Portis had 40 his 1st year in Wash.
