portis (1 Viewer)

With Washington 0-2 there is no way Portis will sit this next week, the question will be how many carries. Until the practice week plays out we won't know anything, and even than there will be some questions on what roles Betts and Duckett might play.

ohhh, i was under the impression it was portis' shoulder holding him out, not the Redskins' record.

Portis skipped his regularly scheduled weekly radio appearence on The John Thompson Show this afternoon. They said he wasn't going to be on because he was receiving treatment for his shoulder at the time. He should be on tomorrow.

I really think there is something else going on. Portis might be in the dog house. Just spectulation.

i am so sick of this is he going to practice is he not, the team sucks with him they are just ok. duckett will steal nothing from him in the way of points did you see him last night! maybe gibbs should not care so much about how much he practices and worry about his qb who cant play. i hate the hogs :wall:

I heard former Redskin Brian Mitchell on SportsTalk 950 (Jody MacDonald, Philly market) this afternoon. Apparently BMitch is still close to the team. Pure speculation on his part, but he feels the reason Portis didn't play this week was punishment for some team infraction. Maybe missed a rehab session or team meeting. BMitch wasn't buying the injury excuse. Again, pure speculation...but from a former player with close ties to the team.

I'm not sure Mitchell has many close ties to the team anymore. He bashes Snyder and the organization as a whole all the time on his radio show. I guess there could be a couple people who he talks to (Bubba Tyer, who has been with the team a LONG time, is a possibility), which is all he really needs, but I wouldn't say he's close to the team.

Who knows, but at 0-2 I think its obvious Clinton Portis holds the cards in this situation if that's the case. The team flat-out sucks at the RB position without him.

I am 100% certain Portis will not start this weekend.
I'd put it at about 88%.That's also the percentage I'd attach to Portis joining the lineup shortly thereafter and shredding a putrid Houston defense.I am fully convinced Clinton Portis' absence this past weekend had less to do with health than it did Gibbs showing who was boss for some reason or other. I love Portis but kudos to Gibbs. Now point proving time is over. The Skins need to win some games, and in order to do so, they clearly need their best offensive player dressed for the rest of the season.

i dont know how you guys are coming up with these percentages... 88% and 100% sure he WON'T play?

i'm pretty sure (notice the lack of use of the %) that Gibbs is aware that this is a must win and even if last week's decision to not start him was due to his power trip, there is no way he will risk going 0-3 by not starting Cport.

In addition I think Cport realizes that Gibbs isn't going to play games and that he should stop talking about how he is 97.9 or 101.34342 percent and just rehab and get ready to play.

Portis will suit up this week and play, hopefully (because I own him) he carries the rock as the #1 rb... i dont wanna see betts with a bunch of carries.

I don't know who is going to start but you can be sure that Portis will be getting the bulk of the carries this week.

RB Portis Plans To Play In Houston This Week

Ryan O'Halloran, Jon Siegel, David Elfin, Washington Times - [Full Article]

RB Clinton Portis plans to return to the lineup this week against the Texans. "In my mind, there's not a doubt," Portis said yesterday. He sat out the Dallas game because of what he called a "jammed" left rotator cuff, an injury unrelated to the dislocated left shoulder he suffered Aug. 13. HC Joe Gibbs wouldn't commit to playing Portis against the Texans. "Clinton's going to want to play in every game," Gibbs said. "He's a joker and he tried to jerk the media's leg last week." I think because he wasn't playing he wanted the other team to think he was playing." This week, we'll take it day by day."

Thx slife for the info on BMitch about CPort. Dang that JGib, he should know TDuk and LBet aren't the answer any more than JLo is a good actress. ;)

True but they also need to make sure they don't rush him back too soon as they did in week 1. Not having him for one more week is nothing compared to possibly losing him long-term.

But, if you believe Gibbs, this wasn't an issue about rushing him back. The injury that kept him out vs. Dallas had nothing to do with his shoulder subluxation.
