So, as I was researching for an actual reason as to why Edgerrin James fell off the face of the Earth (with the Earth being the top two spots on the Arizona Cardinals RB depth chart), I learned that there is a very good chance that they may cut him this off-season. Not that that should surprise anyone, but if you didn't really know about what happened with him and the team (he doesn't fit the offense), then it came as a slight surprise. Although, I guess we should have expected this. He used to be a great running back, and can certainly still play, but I'm sure something about him being a mortal lock to rush for 2 1/2 - 3 yards on every carry had something to do with the whole ordeal.
Okay, sorry -- that entire paragraph was entirely unnecessary -- but anyway, let's brainstorm some possible 2009 locations for Edge, shall we? No? Does anyone even care about him anymore? Here's what I came up with, and I tried to think outside of the box:
Cleveland - The Browns appear to like the slow but steady wins the race type running backs. Jamal Lewis isn't getting any younger, and would benefit from a solid spell RB such as Edge. Heck, even Edge would benefit from that because that's probably what he's become now: A solid spell/3rd down RB.
Cincinnati - If thinking Cedric Benson won't rush for 100 yards in the majority of the Bengals' upcoming games is wrong, than I don't want to be right.
Washington - Unless I'm in the minority here, I don't think the Redskins signed Shaun Alexander with plans for him to be a long-term (or even short-term!) solution.
Detroit - You can plug pretty much anybody who'll be a free agent this off-season and just say that the Lions need help at the <insert applicable position here>. It's like Mad-Libs! But seriously, it's up in the air on whether or not Rudi Johnson will be back next year for the Cowardly Lions.
That's about all I could realistically come up with. I suppose you could throw New England into the mix, since they apparently have no qualms about the limit of running backs on their depth chart/roster.
Let the predictions begin!
