Possible June 1st cuts? (1 Viewer)

Anyone got any ideas who will make up this years list of salary cap casualties? Now that the draft is over, we should have a better idea.

TIA

I can't think of anyone from the Titans that would be of note. I'm sure a WR or two will get cut, but probably someone like a Courtney Roby, or Johnathan Orr. Not really considered a Vet or a Cap casualty.

I would think that many of the names we have heard in trade rumors could be cut, like Trent Green, Culpepper and Mason.

Virtually every team in the league will be keeping an eye on the Patriots WR cuts. They have the following (in no particular order):

R Moss

R Caldwell

J Gaffney

K Washington

W Welker

C Jackson

D Stallworth

T Brown

plus a couple of others.

Any chance Culpepper gets the axe in Miami? Or does them passing on Quinn keep him in a job?
I would think the chances of him getting cut largely depend on whether they land Trent Green. I have to think the worst case would be cutting Culpepper without a trade in place, expecting Green to be a FA, but instead Green is kept and/or dealt elsewhere.

I would think there will be a couple, or more, WRs from NE cut
I doubt June 1st. Most of em' don't make much til 08 and 2 of em' can probably roll on the PS still. June 1st is usually about contract $ and the Pats just don't have that prob with their WRs.I could absolutely see them moving a WR or two this summer but "June 1st cuts" makes me think of a team making a cut to free up some cap $.I like Childress. I don't think he ever plays for the Pats and hope he can latch onto some team that'll give him a shot. He really hustles and seems to give a great effort and.....hopefully some team grabs him and their depth doesn't just end his career as never having "made it" in the NFL. I'd prefer him over ALOT of pamperred WRs just because he'll keep his mouth shut and work hard. Once ya get past 3 or 4 on the depth chart I figure he can be of some value to a team out there.

Amani Toomer, NYG.
This would actually surprise me. Amani has been a good safety net for Eli - as evidenced in part by his struggles after Toomer went down. (Ok, yeah, losing Luke didn't help either). Don't forget we also lost Tim Carter. So the roster right now aside from Toomer:PlaxS.Moss David TyreeSteve SmithJenningsDarius WattsI know they're cheaper and younger, but I just see someone like Watts getting cut before Toomer.

With the Steelers 4th round pick in P Dan Sepulveda, it pretty much puts the writing on the wall for P Chris Gardocki

I was under the impression that the June 1 date is now meaningless. They changed that rule. Teams can now cut players before June 1, and if they so desire, spread the cap hit over the next two years. Previously, you had to wait.

And considering how much the cap went up, I don't see too many teams in a squeeze.

Yeah there's definitely something to what you're saying.IIRC Dillon's retirement was able to be put off like a June 1st "cap casualty" for the Pats

There will still be some I believe. But the change has allowed teams to release players and designate them June 1 cuts before the June 1 date. But I don't think they are forced to, so after the draft and free agency there will probably still be some June 1 cuts.

Any chance of Lamont Jordan getting cut? I seem to recall they paid him a roster bonus a little bit back, but they also signed a FA RB and drafted a RB.

Not that he's worth anything, but Justin McCareins is probably history. I'm surprised he stayed on last year.

Raiders -

- Lamont Jordan/Justin Fargas - if Michael Bush is healthy one of these two may have to go.

- Zack Crockett - will compete with rookie FB for a spot

- Barry Sims - Competing with Gallery for LT and two youngsters for RT: McQuistan/Henderson. Look out if he loses both battles.

- Tyler Brayton - former 1st round DE has been pretty mediocre over the last four years. Now competing with Quentin Moses and some other youngsters for a roster spot.

Keyshawn Johnson - done today

Cedric Cobbs - done today

Reche Caldwell (drops)

Mike Anderson (age)

Troy Williamson (hands/eyes, drafted 3 young guys?)

Trent Green

Dante Culpepper

Ricky Williams

Justin McCairens

Chris Perry

Ryam Moats

Samkon Gado

Alvin Pearman or Labrandon Toefield

Justin Fargas or Reshard Lee (I don't think they'll cut L.Jordan but who knows)

Koren Robinson (again)

Priest Holmes

David Boston (again)

Taylor Jacobs

STL TE (or two)

TB QB (or two)
