Post-touchdown penalties being assessed on the kickoff (1 Viewer)

You see this on occasion, where a team gets a penalty after the touchdown has been scored, and the ref always say the penalty will be assessed on the kickoff, but shouldn't the option be there to assess on the extra point or 2-point conversion? This could be key late in games. Say a team is down by 8 with a minute to go, they score a TD, and the WR gets a celebration penalty. The defensive team could put them back 15 yards and force them to attempt the 2-pointer from the 17.

Why is this not an option? Someone, please educate me. :(

Check the pinned thread above that has the Official NFL Rulebook. Page 99Rule 14 (Penalties), Article 5 (Time of foul)

After touchdown - (2) The succeeding spot for a foul after a touchdown and before a whistle for a Try is the next kickoff (3-11-1-Exc.).
Also, from 3-11-1 that is referenced there:
Enforcement after touchdown - Exception: If a foul occurs after a touchdown and before the ready for play signal for a Try, the succeeding spot is the spot of the next kickoff.Note: A penalty is never enforced from the spot of a legal kick from scrimmage (9-5-1).An enforcement includes a declination (14-6). See 14-1-5 for definition of basic spot and3 and 1 rule.
Basically they don't have that option to take them 15 yards back on a PAT/2pt conversion

The penalty should be part of the previous play thus negating the touchdown... This would get rid of the celebration crap that goes on...

I know they don't have the option. My point was, I think they should have the option.
Do yo ureally think excessive celebration penalties should have that much of an impact on a game? Would you want a tema that drives 80 yards for a TD, down by 8 in the final minutes, to have to attempt a 17-yard 2-point conversion just to tie the game? I wouldn't want that.
