Post Your 2025 Rookie Drafts Here (2 Viewers)

Last rookie draft done last night. I hate doing these in August but the majority of owners like their summers free I guess. Anyhoo...
Interesting... our keeper/contract league rookie draft begins this coming Saturday (8/16) and although I understand most dynasty leagues do theirs in May, I much prefer holding the rookie draft in August. A week before our auction, in our case.

In addition to having most of the summer, training camp and a portion of the preseason to glean additional information (sort of like our scouting combine), most importantly it provides a measure of protection against a summer/preseason season ending injury. Which we see somewhat often (not every year, but roughly every 2-3 years or so to a rookie 1st round pick). I've always thought it was crushing for a team to lose their 1st round pick before the season even began (again, ours is not a dynasty league, so it has even more downside). That said, I understand both sides on this, to be fair. But think the benefits outweigh the downside waiting until August. I'm not buying into, doing it in May is more like the NFL. That may make you feel warm and fuzzy, I guess. But there are a lot of things we do in fantasy that aren't like the NFL. Just my take... again, I get the other side as well.

Interesting that Hunter falls to 1.08... and it appears Harvey is beginning to separate from Kalib Johnson now (based on early preseason observations, I am guessing). I had them both in the same tier (and still prefer Kalib, personally).

Traded up to #3 to take TreVeyon Henderson. But with Hunter as my other consideration there. Similar thoughts to yours on this... might be some over analysis going on with Hunter now. He is admittedly a difficult case. There has been no one like him.

It's one of those things where if the Jags give up on him as a WR and make him strictly CB it'll be like "duh, of course he's a CB, why was I so dumb to take him?" but on the other hand if he goes off for 100 yards and 2 TD in Week 1 it will be like "duh, of course he's a special WR, why was I so dumb to pass on him?". To me he has the highest ceiling of any fantasy player in his class, but maybe one of the lowest odds of reaching that ceiling. Hampton feels like the slam dunk pick at 1.02 but at the same time I haven't been wowed by him nor am I totally sold on the Chargers being as prestine of a situation as described. I like Henderson more personally but could also see that as a reach. No one in my league wants to trade up to my pick so I'm stuck having to make the tough call. My instinct still says Hunter as of now but I have a little more time before I have to make the pick.

Interesting... I think we view the situation similarly.

I am a little higher on Hampton. Full disclosure, I'm a Tarheel so there may be a little bias there. But I don't pick guys just because they went to UNC. I wouldn't have recommended picking Trubisky, for example. :p I do like Drake Maye, but the last Tarheel I really liked for the NFL was Giovani Bernard. But not unlike Henderson, I had concerns Bernard would end up being just a really good 3rd down back. Long story short, if I could have moved up to #2 to take Hampton, I absolutely would have. I'm not sure he isn't the better long term play than Jeanty, personally. Hampton, to me, is the prototypical NFL workhorse RB with a head coach who loves to run the football. I don't disagree that the Chargers offense looks far from a lock to be explosive... I can totally see low scoring Chargers games in the forseeable future, for sure. But I still have Hampton above Hunter and Henderson on my board. Unfortunately, I am at #3 and will settle for Henderson.

Best of luck!

It depends on if there are IDP implications or not. I don't see taking him that high unless there is IDP scoring that boosts (potentially) him up. Otherwise end of round sounds right.

My picks bolded, I needed the WRs so couldn't be happier with the first two rounds. My star going into the auction is Chase Brown so I used the third round to buy some insurance.

I have a rookie draft coming up on Saturday (Aug 16). I have picks 1.11 and 2.03 (overall pick 15). All you rookie drafters out there what would be your combined draft board for your top 15 players? It's full IDP (with scoring that makes IDP important), TE Premium and SF. I am going best player and don't care about position. Give me your top 15......

Here would be mine

1.01 Hunter - if the IDP scoring/league setup is such that he'd truly be the new cheat code that scored two positions worth of points
1.02 Jeanty - if the above isn't quite true, then flip him and Hunter
1.03 Hampton
1.04 McMillan
1.05 Henderson
1.06 Ward
1.07 Warren - when you say TEP to me that means 1.5 PPR (where everyone else is .5PPR). If it's not that big of a gap then I may slide him down a spot or two.
1.08 Harvey
1.08 Egbuka
1.09 Loveland
1.10 Johnson
1.11 Burden
1.12 Dart
2.01 Golden
2.02 Harris
2.03 Higgins
2.04 Judkins
2.05 Skattebo

Where to take Judkins is purely a risk tolerance question. I may be lower on him than most because there's more than a slight chnace that Commissioner's Exempt List + Suspension means he doesn't see the field until late 2026, and when he does get out there they've got Sampson (who's no slouch) having engrained himself in the offense that entire time. Slide him up the list accordingly if you like him.

Edit to add: I don't have any IDP dynasty leagues so I have no clue if there are other monster defensive players that ought to be among the top 15ish...

I’ll take a crack at this:

1.01 Jeanty
1.02 Hunter (even if you can start him at DB and get WR2 points, that might not be a huge edge and there’s enough question about his future position/role that I’m not comfortable taking him first)

1.03 Hampton
1.04 Henderson
1.05 McMillan
1.06 Ward
1.07 Loveland
1.08 Warren (draft the TEs by your preference but in TE Prem they shouldn’t make it to 1.11 and if they do you should probably just say thank you and take one…)

1.09 Egbuka
1.10 Harvey

Here’s where your first pick is and personally here’s where it gets interesting. If anyone above slides you probably don’t have to think to hard and can just take them. Maybe Harvey isnt an auto-click at 1.11 but he is a pretty solid pick there. I think Abdul Carter could be a true difference-maker as a rookie in IDP leagues, and long-term I’m extremely bullish on him as a top 5 DL. I see a lot of Parsons in his game and the Giants have a formidable line which will make it impossible for defenses to key on any one guy. I think he’s in the conversation at 1.11 for sure.

1.11 Abdul Carter

1.12 Matthew Golden (suddenly being hyped up in Green Bay and there doesn’t seem to be any concerns about playing time or target share out of the gate since the rest of their WRs are pretty banged up and have underwhelmed.

2.01 Luther Burden (absolutely love the player and potential but role seems less clear to start the year and he may be cheaper after a few quiet weeks).

2.02 Jaxson Dart (I am convinced he gets a chance to start, possibly by midseason, and he will see a huge value spike and probably put up solid fantasy numbers thanks to his big arm and running ability).

2.03 Carson Schwesinger (another IDP target who makes a ton of sense at this spot and could very well be there for you. Reports out of camp and from his first preseason action were glowing. He’s wearing the green dot and seems locked in as the Browns LB1. That defense should be on the field a ton and Schwesinger is fast, a good tackler, has a nose for the football, all the things you want from a young middle linebacker. Possible top 10 LB season incoming which as a rookie is rare but the stars are aligning for this kid).

2.04 Quinshon Judkins (at some point he’s worth the risk. He was drafted in the top 5-6 in a lot of rookie drafts back in May/June but obviously there’s a dark cloud over him now and no one knows if or when he will play this season. He’s likely to be there at 2.03 if I had to guess but your desire to take him comes down to your tolerance for risk).

2.05 Bhayshul Tuten (some more positive reports turning up just in time for more preseason action. I’d bet he has a role already, but if he has a few explosive plays he could be hard to keep off the field and his value could spike quickly. A bit of a gamble over some of the other WRs (Higgins, Harris) but if it’s me I’m taking the shot on Tuten here. You likely will have safer, more compelling options at 2.03 though.

1.07 Loveland
1.08 Warren (draft the TEs by your preference but in TE Prem they shouldn’t make it to 1.11 and if they do you should probably just say thank you and take one…)
1.07 Warren - when you say TEP to me that means 1.5 PPR (where everyone else is .5PPR). If it's not that big of a gap then I may slide him down a spot or two.
So our TE Premium is a bit different. We wanted to boost TE's without making the studs too studly. We went with a plateau bonus of 5 pts at 20 yds. TE scoring otherwise is 1/2 PPR and 1 pt per 15 yds. To compare RB's are 1 pt every 15 yds rushing & receiving (individually - not combined) and WR's are 1 pt every 12 yds.

So while it's "premium" for TE scoring it really helps lesser TE's more than the top tier. As a reference Bowers was the 25th highest scoring player in the league last year. Kittle was 27th and McBride 31st.

I am leaning Schwesinger at 1.11 over Carter. There is a guy that has picks 1.12 and 2.01 that I can almost guarantee will take Schwesinger with one of those two picks so no way he makes it to me at 2.03. I think there will be enough players I like that I am fine with whoever drops to 2.03.

Carter on the other hand I haven't really been including in my options. We are big play scoring so maybe I ought to rethink that. Would it be bad to get the top two IDP guys with my two picks? Hmmm. I might have to start looking into that option based on your high praise on Carter.

I play in a league where Bowers and McBride scored in the top 5 of WRs and they weren't picked until 1.10; for whatever reason their situation is just not favorable to most

Bowers would have been the #4 WR, Kittle #5 and McBride #6

Kicker at 26?
Good catch. Yep. 3rd round is IDP-only... although we allow kickers in that round as well.

3.02 is high, for sure... but in our league, the potential upside to picking a K is that it fills a roster spot without having to use a 'veteran' roster spot. Rookie picks are roster exempt in our league their first two seasons. They can play, but don't count against your veteran roster. So having a 'rookie' K opens up a roster spot on your veteran roster you'd typically use to roster a K. Not always enough to be worth drafting a K over a good IDP prospect, but you never know when carrying that extra RB or WR lottery ticket on your veteran roster pays off.

The other argument (albeit somewhat flimsy) is Loop will be the Ravens K from day one. A plug & play starter who pays immediate dividends (even if not one of the elite K's). Vs some of the other IDP picks above who are unlikely to be playable their rookie season in our league.

I might have considered Loop later in the round... but not ahead of Schwesinger, Campbell, Emmanwori or Knight.
