Interesting... our keeper/contract league rookie draft begins this coming Saturday (8/16) and although I understand most dynasty leagues do theirs in May, I much prefer holding the rookie draft in August. A week before our auction, in our case.Last rookie draft done last night. I hate doing these in August but the majority of owners like their summers free I guess. Anyhoo...
In addition to having most of the summer, training camp and a portion of the preseason to glean additional information (sort of like our scouting combine), most importantly it provides a measure of protection against a summer/preseason season ending injury. Which we see somewhat often (not every year, but roughly every 2-3 years or so to a rookie 1st round pick). I've always thought it was crushing for a team to lose their 1st round pick before the season even began (again, ours is not a dynasty league, so it has even more downside). That said, I understand both sides on this, to be fair. But think the benefits outweigh the downside waiting until August. I'm not buying into, doing it in May is more like the NFL. That may make you feel warm and fuzzy, I guess. But there are a lot of things we do in fantasy that aren't like the NFL. Just my take... again, I get the other side as well.

I do like Drake Maye, but the last Tarheel I really liked for the NFL was Giovani Bernard. But not unlike Henderson, I had concerns Bernard would end up being just a really good 3rd down back. Long story short, if I could have moved up to #2 to take Hampton, I absolutely would have. I'm not sure he isn't the better long term play than Jeanty, personally. Hampton, to me, is the prototypical NFL workhorse RB with a head coach who loves to run the football. I don't disagree that the Chargers offense looks far from a lock to be explosive... I can totally see low scoring Chargers games in the forseeable future, for sure. But I still have Hampton above Hunter and Henderson on my board. Unfortunately, I am at #3 and will settle for Henderson.
