There's a lot of cool music stories I hear that would make good bar trivia with your buddies or are just cool stories to hear. Let's put them into one place. I have a few, but I'll share one I just heard.....

Everyone knows that the Buggles- Video Killed the Radio Star is the first video ever played on MTV. Many even know the trivia answer to the second song ever played- You Better Run by Pat Benatar. But little know is the fact that April Wine- Just Between You and Me was the first video that MTV ever played twice. It was the 14th video played, as well as the 47th video played.

In the mid-60s, Reginald Kenneth Dwight failed auditions for King Crimson and Gentle Giant. He went on to have a pretty successful career after teaming with Bernie Taupin under the stage name Elton John.

Rumours would never have existed had Mick Fleetwood not walked into sound city at the exact moment that Lindsey Buckingham's guitar solo was playing over the speakers.

I've posted this before, but it belongs here....

While recording "I Saw Her Again", two of the Mamas and Papas accidently came back in one frame early after the bridge. They sang "I saw..." and quickly stopped when they realized the other two weren't singing. It sounded cool and John Phillips decided to leave it in. John Lennon later said that it was pure brilliance leaving that in and it's makes the song.

This is cool. It sounds like it's on purpose. That's a good accident...

Strawberry Fields Forever is, maybe, the only pop song ever written where the 5th chord in the song is a minor chord. It's the only one that I know of and it's the only one that every musician I've ever talked to knows of.

"Let me take you down cause I'm going TOOOOOOO...."

After Cliff Burton's death, Metallica asked Les Claypool to come in to audition. He was not offered the job because they though that he was "too good".

Jimmy page said the reason for the cover of Led Zeppelin 4 -- "It was designed as our response to the music critics who maintained that the success of our first three albums was driven by hype and not talent… So we stripped everything away, and let the music do the talking."

Porl Thompson, guitarist for The Cure for about 10 years and rhythm guitarist on the Page / Plant tour in the early 90s turned into a woman last year. He goes by Pearl now.

Eddie Van Halen wanted to join KISS back in the early 80s.

( I had never heard that one until this week).

The lead singer of Dead or Alive (You spin me right round baby right round) is also a woman now.

Marilyn Manson is Paul from the Wonder Years.
I don't think this is true. his real name is Brian I think. (MM)
No, Scoresman is right.
I don't think so unless Josh Saviano took the time to fake a LexisNexis legal profile and is able to perform around the world while being a partner at a huge firm in NY http://www.morrisoncohen.com/jsaviano .
That myth has long been debunked. It's not him.

different guy. that doesn't look anything like Paul from the Wonder Years. Marilyn Manson on the other hand...

He did.

The song "Don't You (Forget About Me)" was turned down by Billy Idol. It was then offered to Simple Minds, who sold millions with it.

VH has a lot of trivia. Patty Smyth of Scandal was asked to replace Roth, but she turned them down and they went with Hagar. Also VH was initially called Genesys, but had to change its name due to the emergence of the other Genesis. Then they became Mammoth before VH.

Thom Yorke of Radiohead originally auditioned for the part of Herman on the semi-successful early 90s Fox sitcom Herman's Head.

Just to add, REO Speedwagon was the flrst artist to be played twice: #9 with "Take It On The Run" and #17 with "Keep On Loving You".

U2's song Sunday Bloody Sunday was not originally written about the Bloody Sunday incident in Northern Ireland, but instead about an event from Bono's childhood where he witnessed a childhood crush of his have her first period while at Sunday mass.

for a short time, early in his career, Neil young was in the band fronted by Rick James, called Mynah Birds.

After Cliff Burton's death, Metallica asked Les Claypool to come in to audition. He was not offered the job because they though that he was "too good".
Primus guitar player, Larry LaLonde played for the early death metal band, Possessed, in his teens. Claypool's bass is usually up front, but often there is some evil sounding guitar playing behind it.

Angus Young of AC/DC kept 4 very well trained wallabies as pets and on 3 songs of the hit album Back in Black you can hear one chirping in the background. On the "Let's Get it Up" studio recording, he even let one of them pluck the guitar strings for a few licks.

Geddy Lee was considered to be the producer of Metallica's And Justice For All album, but the idea was short lived due to schedule conflicts.

If true, its a damn shame. The bass on that album is nonexistent. No way that would have happened with Geddy.

It's true. I once had a picture disc Metallica interview album where they mentioned it...it can also be found on the internet.

The song "Hey, Hey, My, My..." and the title phrase of the album, "rust never sleeps" on which it was featured sprang from Young's encounters with Devo and in particular Mark Mothersbaugh.[1] Devo was asked by Young in 1977 to participate in the creating of his film Human Highway.[2] A scene in the film shows Young playing the song in its entirety with Devo, who clearly want little to do with anything "radio-friendly" (of note is Mothersbaugh changing "Johnny Rotten" to "Johnny Spud").
