I would say roughly 90% of all "music" produced in the past 10 years is complete & total crap. Most bands to today are intellectually lazy, lack creativity & artistic integrity, and know nothing of fan loyalty. They do what they do because someone told them they were talented enough to earn a fat paycheck & get a spot on MTV cribs. Everyone today is a sellout.
I'm not disagreeing with this statement, but can you give us a personal Top 5?
To be honest, I don't even know if I could. Too many good bands to choose from. Plus, it would be personal, and therefore, irrelevant here.My statement was more about the honesty & integrity of music produced in different eras. About how there was a certian vibe or energy in the music produced at certain times throughout history. Just my opinion, but I think there were 2 great eras of music: 1) about a 15 year span from the early 60's to the mid-70's, with artists like
Zeppelin, the Stones, The Who, Jimmy, Joplin, Cream, The Ramones, The S e x Pistols, Black Sabbath, etc. and 2) about a 10 year span from the late 80's to the late 90's, with artists like Pearl Jam, Nirvana, AIC, Soundgarden, Public Enemy, N.W.A., Tupac, Dr. Dre etc.
To me, the 80's were mostly about "weird" people trying to outdo each other with synthesizers or hairspray & leather pants.
Today, it's mostly about going corporate & selling oneself as a brand. (exhibit A, Jay-Z.)
I believe that the 60's, 70's, and 90's music, for the most part, was about expressing oneself, and the artists didn't give a rat's behind what you thought.
