PRE DRAFT / MOCK PREP. -sleepers/reaches- (1 Viewer)

There are alot of posts about sleepers, ADP lists, players on the rise..etc. I think a common mistake that even the most savvy owners are guilty of is committing to a certain "sleeper/reach" player; to the point that they may end up drafting that player(s) 1 or more rounds earlier than they could/should have. Im saying to stay open minded and always keep a list of a few guys at each position. Based on ADP you can decide what the earliest round you would draft that player in. Obviously once their ADP has past you should be aware and ready to grab 1. If you decided you have to have Floyd, Braylon, Aromashodu, Jacoby etc.. this year based on or their opportunity and ADP do not jump 2-3 rounds too early. **The first few rounds go pretty fast as we have easier decisions to make, but when round 5 hits and we start to look for value, in our minds those few names start to haunt you and can affect your draft. Its hard to take the emotion out as we all have favorites and sometimes its ok jumping a little early on a guy just be sure to track the subsequent drafters needs and consider prev draft tendencies. Alot of people have the benefit of being in leagues where most of the same owners return so we have an idea of their tendencies. Use this to your advantage and stay away of trends/runs. Basically saying that if what attracts you to a guy is the fact he is going in round 10-12 then dont pick him in round 6-7..

I understand what you are trying to say but I think the guesswork is part of the fun and why we all play this game. I see no problem 'reaching' a round or two for a guy that I just have to have because I am more sold on him breaking out than I am on another guy around the same time. ADP can be a useful tool but should not be the gospel when it comes to a draft in my opinion. If you believe player 1 will outperform player 2 then it makes more sense to take him now instead of waiting for your turn to come back around and possibly miss out on him. When it comes to a guy, all it takes is one of your opponents to like him as much or just a little bit more than you do for you to miss out on him.I say don't hesitate. Pull the trigger when the time is right for you....not your ADP sheet.Of course you should always stay open minded and always have a list of a few guys at each position so you don't get caught fumbling through your list right as your turn comes up because your guy just got taken out from under you.
