***Pre-Game Thread*** Baltimore at Pittsburgh (1 Viewer)

I think it will all come down to a couple of big plays. And the team that has more playmakers in my eyes is the Ravens.

One of these guys is going to make some game changing play or plays to win it for Baltimore.

Ed Reed

Ray Lewis

Anquan Boldin

Ray Rice

Willis McGahee (he has a perchant for big plays in big games so don't laugh)

Derrick Mason

In the post season it truly starts to come down to that difference. As much as the Steelers have a big edge at QB (which is the most important position) and home field, I think Joe Flacco comes into his own. This is a career defining game for him.

Play Makers make big plays in the biggest games.

Are you serious? Playmakers?Polamalu? Harrison? Wallace? Ward? Mendenhall?

The Ravens' PR guy has a weekly column on the team website. I thought this was a funny blurb:

I'm going to compliment the Steelers' fans. Easy now... Sometimes you have to give credit when it is deserved. When the Steelers need a big defensive stand, they play the song "Renegade" by Styx. A lot of you know the song. It starts out with a lone voice singing:"Oh Momma, I'm in fear for my life from the long arm of the law..."Eventually, the song explodes with heavy base, big guitars and drums with, "The jig is up, the news is out..." Well, by the time they get to "The jig is up," Heinz Field is literally rocking, as 65,000 stand in unison, pounding their feet, waving those damn towels while screaming to the music. The noise is deafening, and the stadium vibrates. It's actually a little scary, feeling like the start of an earthquake.Guess what the Ravens have heard all week in practice? "Renegade." Yes, instead of the usual high-volume crowd noise we play during the offensive part of our practices before road games, Coach Harbaugh just had that song blasting from the speakers. Saw some of the players and coaches dancing to the tune this week. Others have learned all the words by now.On Wednesday, when we moved to a defensive part of practice - when there is no noise piped in - you could hear Suggs, while rushing the passer, singing: "Oh Momma, nah, nah, nah, nah, naah, I'm coming after Ben."
NFL Films Presents had a piece about the Steelers and "Renegade" a couple of years ago. It turns out the guy who came up with the idea and does all the scoreboard video stuff during games is someone who I was friends with growing up. Since Baltimore didn't have a team back in those days, I guess it's o.k. to forgive him for turning traitor.I'm starting to get realll antsy waiting for this game. Will be drinking heavily starting around 4:30 today. Anything to make the time go by.

Steelers have them too. It is a coin toss this game. I think it is such an even match-up. I predicted a 14-13 score. It will come down to which one of either teams playmakers makes the play to turn the tide of the game.

McGahee and Mason have made numerous big plays over the course of their careers.....Mendenhall? He is an infant in that department.

If we are talking career, then we get to list Ben, they don't get to list Flacco. In addition, I'll add Suggs and Ngata for them and Farrior, Timmons, Woodley and Hampton for us.

I think it will be the one who doesn't make the BIG mistake or the team that creates the big mistake. We don't need a kickoff or punt return.

24 hours until kickoff  Time to get my drink on :banned: See you on the other side

:banned:Back atcha, Stillers fans. Amazing how cool most have been in this thread. Can you imagine a Vikes/Pack thread here being this respectful? Yet the national media I've heard this week say this is the best rivalry in the NFL.I want the Ravens to win - duh - but I want a fair-and-square win for whomever is the best tomorrow.

The Ravens haven't been the greatest on returns lately (odd, since Harbaugh is supposed to be a ST guru; but then Billick was an "offensive genius" & won a SB with D/ST). David Reed - who I have no idea if he's playing - has been the best full-time returner Baltimore's had since Jermaine Lewis. I'd also expect Ed Reed (Lt Lateral) to drop back should the Ravens be in desperation.

Couldn't disagree more.
I don't necessarily agree with Todem, but I don't think the difference is enough to bet a gilded Bible on. In numbers, anyway - Ben vs Flacco is the big one. The rest is damned near dead-even.

The Ravens controlled the game in the 2nd meeting, held the lead from wire to wire and would have won if not for Flacco fumbling the ball away at their own 9 with 3 minutes left. I come away from that game thinking the Ravens are actually the better team.

There's always at least one game that doesn't go the way people think it will so you have to stick your neck out once.

Ravens 23

Steelers 10

I actually went to bed early last night just so today would get here faster.

http://steelers.dve.com/pages/steelerssongs2011.html

A Ravens fan, a Bengals fan and a Steeler fan are climbing a mountain and arguing about who loves his team more. The Bengals fan insists that he is most loyal. "This is for the Bengals" he yells, and jumps off the side of the mountain. Not to be outdone, the Steelers fan is next....to profess his love for his team he yells, "This is for the Steelers" and he pushes the Ravens fan off of the mountain!!

GO STEELERS!!

"Drink up yienz 6!tche5, the games bout to start; lets go watch our Stillers tear the Ravens apart"

dressed and ready to go. how nervous must the players be if even i couldn't sleep last night? lots of passing early before the snow hits and then lots of running in the second half. i give the slight edge to the steelers due to home-field advantage and ray rice's malady. pit by 2.

Pit homers, what is the weather like there? They are showing 18 to 30 mph winds - wondering how the passing and kicking game will be impacted in this one?

Looked like the Ravens playmakers forgot this was a big game.
