Pre-Season Football Night In America: Bills @ Colts Preview & Game (1 Viewer)

Jared Lorenzon would look so much better in a pair of overalls and some straw sticking out of his mouth.

Xavier Omon and Bruce Hall getting carries over Dwayne Wright means Wright will be looking for work in the next 10 days. It's a shame too because I think he was an effective runner when he wasn't coughing up the football.

IIRC that was Kiper's favorite Bills pick of that draft. I didn't realize he was in danger.

Per Bills' official blogger Chris Brown, the x-rays on Walker's left forearm were negative. Update coming after the game...

He got in the doghouse last year with the fumbles and he's already coughed it up twice this year too.

yeah, I don't really understand that. Wright had clearly outplayed those guys prior to tonight and looked to have the #3 RB job locked up. My only thought is that maybe the coaching staff felt good about him and are trying to give these guys one more chance to show what they have. I still think Omon is headed for the practice squad and that Wright will make the team.

I like that idea, but I'm not confident that it's going to happen.Moving on to our cornerbacks... we currently have McGee, Greer, James, Youboty, James, McKelvin, Corner and that 7th round pick (can't remember his name). I figure we carry five, maybe six, CBs. Who is getting cut out of this bunch? Youboty has made plays during the whole preseason, so I think he's safe. James is the veteran, but he's been inconsistent so he think he's the odd man out. That 7th round pick should be fighting for a spot on the practice squad.

Has Jason Peters reported to the Bills yet? Is he playing? If he's at LT, I feel better about drafting Lynch.
from rotoworld:
Bills LT Jason Peters doesn't plan to report to the team "anytime soon," according to NFL Network's Adam Schefter. This is about as serious a holdout as they get. While it seems unlikely that Peters would pass up weekly in-season checks, there have been no recent negotiations. Peters is dissatisfied with his $3.3 million salary. Aug. 24 - 8:30 pm et
Thanks broncofan13000 and OC Zed. I'm drafting #11 in two leagues...without Peters I'm not psyched on Lynch at that spot or even at 2.02. Your info is a help.
His phone's going to be ringing tomorrow, if not sooner, if Walker's got anything more than a minor tweak of his shoulder/arm.
and he still won't answer it. he doesn't return the Bills calls.
this is the biggest myth of the off season.Junior GM has not bothered to call Peters- how can he not return the call. The bills have made it abundantly clear they will not redo his deal - so there has been nothing to talk about.

FALSE

We look real ugly with the black cleats. And the white-on-white and blue-on-blue color scheme that Peerless Price ushered in a couple years ago is pretty foul looking too.

What really started this whole mess was the Bills giving that dumb### new deal to Schobel last year when he had 3 years left on his existing deal (which was renegotiated from the prior year). Peters saw that as precedent except he's too stupid to to come into camp and play nice and be the good soldier that Schobel was to a certain degree.
they probably would have given him a similar bump if he reported. I think he's more bitter that he signed a terrible contract and then he saw guys like Dockery and Walker come in and make a lot more. He was also around for the Mike Williams era. So, given how much the team wasted on that guy, Peters deserves a fortune.
This is not true.Brandon is the sheriff in town and will not give Peters a new deal in 2008This was conveyed to Peters in Jan and is what prompted him to stay away from camp. All this talk of Peters not telling the Bills what he wants is pure poppycock. The Bills know full well what he wants and will not give it to him - so there is nothing to talk about.Myabe they will change their mind if they keep losing tackles - but don;t hold your breathe. Brandon drew a line in the sand and it seems he would rather miss the playoffs without Peters than back down and try to reach out and negotiate.

I don't think Brandon is the one making this decision.(Hint: The decision maker owns the team.)

Youboty is apparently 6th on the depth chart but he has looked really good to me in the preseason games. I haven't seen anything from James at all but he has plenty of experience and seems better suited to play in the slot than Youboty is.I think McGee, McKelvin, Greer, and Corner are all locks. That leaves the last spot up for grabs between Youboty and James. If McKelvin was playing better and ready to push for a starting spot outside, then the team could move Greer to the slot. But, I don't think McKelvin is ready and he seems like he'd be lost in the slot too. So, I think they probably have to keep James. They may be forced to keep 6 but not sure if they have the room. Some speculation out there that Youboty could be traded as well.

this is not what I've heard, on both accounts.

Awful game. I'm worried about Jeff Saturday's knee - MRI today. There's no excuse for any Colts starter being in the game with less than 5 minutes left to go in the 3rd - this could be really costly.

This guy must be Jason Peters because apparently he knows something that nobody else in the world knows and is contrary to not only what the media has reported, but what has been explicitely said by the Bills organization. But at least he backs up his credibility by throwing out terms like "Junior GM" and calling him the "sheriff."

The spin is changing. From an article by Mark Gaughan at http://www.buffalonews.com/sports/billsnfl/story/422762.html

"The Bills have had no recent contact with Peters’ representatives, and the team remains firm in its stance that Peters will not get a new deal this season. "

If that's all Peters had to do to get a new deal was show up, then he would have been in camp a long time ago.

What spin? That's just a sloppily worded article from the reporter. Every direct quote or reported direct quote from the beginning has essentially been "If Peters reports, then we'll talk about a new deal." Now that he didn't even report to training camp, the Bills have taken a harder stance and have said that they won't re-do his deal this year.

Funny how Schoebel, Kelsay, McGee and a few others have all gotten new deals done in the past 2 years by simply showing up to camp and working with the team. And the reports are that the Bills and Evans are getting closer to getting a new deal in place for him as well. The Bills reward players that want to be Bills and are team players. There are only 2 players in the entire NFL holding out right now, and only one of them isn't a rookie without a contract anyway. That guy is Jason Peters.

The good news is that Walker has looked very good at LT and even had a great game against Freeney last night. And the injury to him was just a deep bruise. So he'll be ready to go by the start of the season. Not only that, but Bell has developed very quickly and the staff loves what he can do. Freeney was already out when he came in last night, but he did very well when he came in for Walker. If Peters wants to keep playing the game, I'm beginning to think that Walker this year and then possibly Bell after that wouldn't be as large of a dropoff as people think.

I'd rather lose an extra game or two than have them give in to a selfish player that won't even show up to camp.
;) I do have to say though, that I don't really care for the fact that the Bills are $20M under the cap. Hopefully a good chunk of that will end up going to extend Evans. I'm sure if Peters had showed up all offseason and for training camp, a chunk of that would be his too. It's kind of tough to swallow as a fan, but I think the Bills are sending the right message. You're either a Buffalo Bill comitted to the team, or you're a hired gun that's going to be treated that way. Bills get rewarded, hired guns are expected to play out their contract and then can go get their ridiculous contract with some team that takes on bounty hunters.

he has 3 years left on his contract. it's inexcusable to skip all of training camp and expect the team to cave in to your demands. I normally side with players on these types of disputes because players have short careers and there are very few guarantees in the NFL. But, I don't really have much sympathy for Peters in this situation and I think he's handled the entire thing very poorly.

The amazing thing is that EVERYONE seems to agree with that analysis (well, other than some Bills fans). Almost all of the analysts, talking heads and even former players have said that Peters has gone about this all wrong and is the one to blame here. Pretty amazing since they usually have no problem with taking shots at the Bills for being cheap. The really unfortunate thing is that I think that the egos involved with Peters and his agent are going to create even more problems for them now. Their gambit didn't work and giving in and showing up now without a new contract would be a huge ego blow. I really do think that Peters ends up holding out until Week 10. Or that the probability of him doing so has increased quite a bit at the very least. The latest word was from Schefter last night and he said that it didn't look like Peters was going to report any time soon. That's something that wouldn't be coming from Buffalo's side. So he's getting that info from Peters or his agent. I don't know, we'll see how things look when the Bills get to the bye. They start off with two tougher games against Seattle and Jacksonville. But then they have 3 winnable games against the Raiders, Rams and Cards. And outside of maybe the Rams, none of them are great pass rushing teams. If Edwards stays clean for the most part up to the bye and the Bills are at least 3-2, I think that Peters is going to start REALLY feeling the heat.

:) I think he has outplayed his contract, but his selfish approach was not the way to get what he wants.

i was just rippin on the awfull monday night presentation by espn, and wanted to add a positive comment on nfl nets presentation of this game :

how awsome the sunday night broadcast combo of sharpe, faulk and deon s was sunday night . i was very sceptical because although i really like sharpe i have never been a huge fan of faulk or deons comments . i loved the combo of these 3 guys . it was much more "insightfull" to watch the game with all 3 guys being former players . i liked the comments about formation strategies and such . i thought it felt like you were on sidelines on a team almost with these guys .
