Preseason W1 Game Thread - Bills V Redskins (1 Viewer)

Will we see Kelly or Thomas for WAS? Will we see Hardy for BUF?
I think Kelly and Thomas are out but Hardy is expected to play.some more info from Today's Buffalo News:
Tonight will be the first game for an offensive line that experienced a bit of a shake-up due to the prolonged holdout of disgruntled left tackle Jason Peters. Langston Walker gets the start at left tackle, while Kirk Chambers will man Walker’s original spot on the right side. The most hotly contested position on offense is tight end, where incumbent Robert Royal is trying to hold off second-year pro Derek Schouman for the starting job.The competition is still up for grabs as both players have split snaps with the first-team offense in training camp. That will be the case tonight as well, but Courtney Anderson and rookie Derek Fine also are going to have a chance to make an impression on the coaches. On the injury front, wide receiver Josh Reed (lower back), linebacker Angelo Crowell (knee), strong safety Donte Whitner (ankle) and defensive end Copeland Bryan (hamstring) did not make the trip. Tight end Tim Massaquoi is doubtful with a sore groin.Crowell returned earlier this week, but sat out Thursday after he had more swelling in his ailing left knee after Wednesday’s practice.

Marcus Mason can't do that and make the roster, especially given that his primary role will be special teams.

I honestly think the redskins passing attack is one of the most under rated teams in FF this preseason.

The more I'm watchin the offense this preseason, the more I"m wondering whether Antwaan Randle El is going to be used as the Redskins' version of Wes Welker.

:goodposting: Has Chris Cooley been in the game yet. All of their sets appeared to be 3WR.
Don't freak out. They're just running some different packages. Cooley and Portis are the two "safest" players from that offense for fantasy purposes this year.

He is WR64 in the 8/1 excel VBD tool using standard PPR scoring. I think thats a theft. Moss at WR29 isn't much better.

I know it's better then 50/50 that it's not a catch, but do you really need a challange in the first preseason game?

Somebody wake me up when Campbell has his fourth incomplete pass pf the preseason.

Edit because I can't add.

For those who can see the game, how is Jason Campbell looking?
He looks good - pretty much more of the same from the Indy game. I like how he's going through projections, checking down, etc. He looks comfortable, and his throws are accurate.

Campbell and the starters are out now.

Betts looks really good - quick, strong and decisive in his cuts.

Rinehart is also plowing - I love that draft pick.

I know its only preseason, but the Skins have looked VERY impressive so far this year. Zorn is SO much better a play caller than Gibbs. Its like night and day. Campbell looks good, Portis looked good, the WRs are catching almost everything thrown their way. Lynch had very little room to run. And Hardy looks HUGE.

The Redskins, even in preseason with 2nd and 3rd stringers on the field, look more organized than they ever did under Joe Gibbs. The offense lines up, runs the play, knows where to be, and keeps moving the ball.

Clinton Portis clearly is running rusty but still running well. The 4th down decision to go for it and to give it to him was a good call. It let the team see they could punch it in, and believe they could punch it in, something they had trouble with under Gibbs.

Redskins WR's blocking well down the field. So is Chad Rinehart, who made the last block 10 yards downfield before Betts scored his TD.

Redskins seem to be able to run at will, both inside and out. The pass sets up the run very well.

Billy McMullen actually looks like he's acquired the ability to catch a ball with his hands. Collins completed one to him in the middle of 5 defenders, and if he doesn't come down with it it is a sure INT.

Thrash clearly understands the offense, is right where he's supposed to be, and will make the team, probably as WR#3 to start the year.

Buffalo needs to paint the buffalo on their helmet a different color. It looks awful.

nice TD by Hardy. I think Burress, Randy, and Calvin may be the only guys that look as big as he does in the league right now...

nice TD catch by Hardy from Losman
 There was great coverage (at least in terms of body position) but Hardy found the ball and grabbed it. That throw might have been better - I would think that they'd want it up higher for Hardy to get, but it was otherwise accurate. I'm sure they want to feed Hardy a lot of those this year.

:popcorn:I love A R-EThe problem I see with the skins offense I outlined a few weeks ago - it isn't Campbell, it is the depth at WR. They worked to Thrash a lot and I came away unimpressed. Apparently Malcolm Kelly is hurting a bit right now? I was very interested in seeing the third Wash receiver.Campbell's passes were in control, he was in command of the offense, and he made very good decisions - checking down when there was nothing downfield and using his outlet if the progressions failed, and making nice downfield throws when they were there. And he received a good amount of playing time. The running game looked great. The Bills' first unit appeared to make quite a few mental errors. I donlt think their talent level is really lal that far back, but they did not play cohesive, smart ball so far tonight.

I was with you until this. The Bill uni is a classic.
Yeah, I kind of like them even better than the current ones. I'm a sucker for (most) throwbacks though. Nostalgia ain't what it used to be. :)
:loco:The Bills classic is easily as good looking as the modern one - I actually like all the Bills uniforms (classic and modern, home and away colors) - and I'm a phin fan.

"QBBC" this year has Campbell as the main QB - The way he has looked so far, he might just be the "C" all by himself.

Malcolm Kelly and Devin Thomas have both been hurt for a couple weeks. Given their lack of playing time in the preseason and rookie status, Thrash will open the season at WR#3.

The entire uniform looks great. But the red buffalo ruins it, it's just awful. Even if they trimmed the buffalo in blue it would vastly improve it. It looks like it was drawn by a third grader. pic I guess if it's a throwback uniform they can't really change it though. But some parts of throwback uniforms look, um, bad; plenty of people didn't like the Redskins mustard uniforms last year.

Stay tuned for more of "Fabulous Uniform Makeovers".

the problem with the Bill uni started when they messed with the classic red buffalo in 1976 (thank you google image search), changing the color to blue with a red slash and making the buffalo appear as if it were in motion. but they've ruined the look even further, and the modern Bill uni ranks amongst the worst in the league, without question

Best play of the game was Clinton "I hate to play in the preseason" Portis picking up a blitzing DB, knocking the guy about 2-3 yards backwards, and pumping his fist after the play was over.

It looks like a Buffalo to me.

Despite what Clinton says about preseason, he clearly was rusty on his first few touches, but he quickly warmed to the task. And yeah, I simply love watching him pick up the blitz. I almost pity an opposing rookie DB coming on a blitz in the preseason only to find Clinton filling the hole. Almost.

As others have said, they've got an injury problem there presently as the two rookies, Thomas and Kelly, are getting over injuries (Thomas: hammy; Kelly: scoped knee). This is a problem that should get better as they recover and start making up for lost training camp time. I agree though, in the short term they've got some limited personnel options at WR while they wait for those two guys to recover and get up to speed. Also, Fred Davis is looking like the real deal as a NFL TE, perhaps on his way to being another Cooley. While possibly not good news in fantasy (TEBC? ) long term, in 2008 I think his development means that Cooley will be freed up to be a de facto 3rd receiving option with Moss and Randle El on the field. When the rookies return, I think ARE will spend a good amount of time in the slot, which is probably where he belongs anyway, and that's why I'm starting to wonder whether he'll be the Redskins' version of Wes Welker.
