*** Priest Holmes Information *** (1 Viewer)

Think maybe it's Vermeil and the Chiefs that requested a 3rd opinion? Obviously they didn't like the 2nd opinion. Priest talked about retirement the last 2 years, and he is obviously scared for his health. I'm not so sure Priest's heart is into continuing to play football. Not because he doesn't love football, he does, but Priest is a smart man, and I would guess that his health is of greater concern to him.

Where'd you get this?
John, check this out:Priest third opinion

Hey John,

Not sure why you need to sign up when you go through the link. If you google priest holmes under news and sort by date. It's a story regarding LJ carrying the load.

Yeah show a sliver of hope and you might get a dime for him.. :)
Someone offered my Keyshawn Johnson for him. It's still sitting on the table, but I already have Harrison and Chad Johnson and it's a TD only league.Or I could get Bulger for him, but I already have Brees...

Chiefs | Holmes Seeking Third Opinion; Vermeil Feels He'll PlayTue, 8 Nov 2005 07:58:23 -0800Adam Teicher, of the Kansas City Star, reports Kansas City Chiefs RB Priest Holmes (head trauma) is scheduled to get a third opinion Tuesday, Nov. 8, for what head coach **** Vermeil said was a medical condition. Vermeil said he did not know if Holmes had an "injury per se" and the team has not specified the exact nature of Holmes' condition. He did suffer a shoulder injury in September and then head trauma two weeks ago. However, Vermeil believes Holmes may play against the Buffalo Bills. Vermeil said the doctors want to be very thorough of the situation, but he believes they will say he's ready to play. Should he return, Vermeil indicated Holmes would see two series to RB Larry Johnson's one series.

Why is Vermeil in such a hurry to get him back in? With LJ in there he has the luxury of letting Priest take all the time he needs to heal.

What I'm most curious about is what the first 2 opinions were?Is this a bruschi like situation where Priest is worried he has a severe injury and is looking for a Dr. to say he can't play, or did the first 2 Drs say he can't play and he's trying to find someone to tell him he can?Either way, I'm glad to be a Larry Johnson owner at this point.

]Soo... Everyone here is pretty confident that Vermiel is full of #### and priest is done?
I think he's hopeful, I don't think he's full of crap. But, he was *very* optimistic early last week, and look where that got them.

Plus, it was like this toward the end of last season...we kept hearing that Priest is coming back, Priest is coming back..etc. etc.

Fool me once...

This is coach speak 101 You have to wonder about a 3rd opinion and that combined with the news from the 2nd doctor .... doesn't look good at all.I think he is done, but that is just my guess

Also, if DV leaves it ou there that Priest might play, I'd think that Buff will have to prepare for Priest, and the packages they use him in.Preparing for just LJ, versus LJ and Priest, would be different. And, lastly, this is exactly what I expect DV to say if/until it is confirmed that Priest is out.

:goodposting: Priest would like to leave in a great bill of health. See: B. Sanders or Robert .........what's his name that played with Vikes. Smith, I believe.

I'm a Priest/LJ owner in several leagues, so I'm trying to keep as neutral as possible about this. What possible goals do they have by getting a 3rd opinion?1 - Priest is worried and wants to be absolutely 100% positive that he won't do any serious damage to his mellon by coming back quickly.2 - Priest is being told not to play by Doctors 1 & 2 but is desperately seeking a way to get back on the field.3 - Doctors 1 & 2 have no clue what is wrong. They are trying to find someone/anyone who will be able to difinitively say that Priest is clear to play.

My personal thought, and Syx's info from last week backed that up, is that Priest is scared s--tless and isn't going to play if there's any chance he could seriously injure himself. Of course, his availability for this week and beyond is going to be heavily predicated on what he hears from these doctors, but I for one would not be remotely surprised if LJ is the man again this Sunday, and maybe longer. It all depends on what Priest hears from the docs, and how he interprets that info, so unfortunately, this is a real ? for us Priest/LJ owners.

#1. I'm as positive of this as I can be without knowing the guy personally.

I'm inclined to agree but these multiple reports on his status start to take a toll on what you truly believe. "As The World Turns". :loco:

This is normal for the coach to say he has a chance to return.. They all want teams to worry about 2 different backs.. Though he looks to be full of ####.... If you have Holmes use this news to get SOMETHING..

this is EXACTLY how it went last year with priest's knee. vermeil said the said same sorts of things, priest was shopping around for opinions...i would still think there's very little chance priest plays again this season.

Could this have anything to do with insurance/contractual issues? If Priest is "forced" to retire b/c doctors won't clear him, he's still due his salary. If Priest is cleared by doctors but doesn't want to play because of his own worries, he'll lose quite a bit of money. There are likely larger issues than this, but it's a thought.

when you seek a third opinion, aren't you really, really desperately hoping the other two opinions are wrong?

Either that or the two opinions you got prior conflicted one another in some way.

I'm sure the Chiefs do. Like the previous poster said, this could also be an insurance thing. Maybe Holmes doesn't want to play anymore, and the Chiefs would like to squirm out of paying him if one doctor clears him.

This from Rotoworld and Fantasy Football.com. Please note that they were also the ones who said Priest would not play week 9 on Thursday, when most said he was at worst questionable, so the source must be good."RotoWorld.com and FantasyFootball.com have learned that Priest Holmes will not play in week ten following complications stemming from his head trauma suffered October 30th. Sources close to the situation have revealed that Holmes is unlikely to play again this season. Holmes has openly considered retirement the last two off-seasons. At age 32, it’s fair to wonder if the three-time Pro Bowler will ever put on a Chiefs uniform again. The situation is eerily similar to the knee injury that ended Holmes’ 2004 season. On November 7th, 2004, Holmes left Kansas City’s game against the Buccaneers with a knee injury. Chiefs coach **** Vermeil expected Holmes to return to the lineup shortly, but Holmes didn't play another snap. One month later, the Chiefs made it official, placing him on injured reserve. Larry Johnson went on to become one of the best running backs in football during the second half of the season. The short-term fantasy impact is clear. Larry Johnson will start for the Chiefs against the shaky Bills rush defense this week. He remains a must-start versus nearly any opponent and should be one of the top fantasy running backs for the rest of the season. Acquire him if you can. The Chiefs, who had Samkon Gado on their practice squad earlier this season, should be in the market for a veteran running back. Ethically ambiguous fantasy owners could try to deal Holmes now before the news becomes official. "

6+ hours and counting....no one else has reported on Rotoworld's exclusive report.
I'm still kind of surprised everyone here has taken Rotoworld's "exclusive" as gospel. The local KC papers, while saying Priest has gone for a few opinions on the nature of his injury, still seem to say there's a chance he plays, even this weekend:From tooday's KC Star:

Holmes was scheduled to get a third opinion today in Miami for what coach **** Vermeil said was a medical condition.

“I don’t know if there is an injury per se,” Vermeil said.

The Chiefs haven’t specified the exact nature of Holmes’ condition, but he went to Los Angeles last week for an exam with noted spinal specialist Robert Watkins.

Holmes suffered a shoulder injury in September at Oakland and a head injury last week at San Diego. But Vermeil said he believed Holmes might play against the Bills.

“Personally, I think Priest will be back, but I’m not the doctor giving that opinion,” Vermeil said on Monday. “He’s going to a different doctor for an exam. He flies today, he’s there tomorrow and then he’s back. The doctors want to be very thorough of the situation. What I believe is going to happen is that they will say he’s free to play.”

http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/s...fs/13108456.htm

Obviously by saying "I don't know if there's an injury per se," Vermeil is alluding to the lingering concussion syndrome. Howver, it's still not a "done deal" and Rotoworld is STILL the only one reporting Priest is done for the season, going on 20 hours now......

Take it FWIW, but I work with a guy who's daughter talked to Priest yesterday (she works for his agent), and she says that Priest may be done.  Aparently when he gets hit a certain way, he goes partially numb.  She said he is pretty scared.

Don't know how true this is, but I do know that she talks to these guys frequently.
:lmao:
why is this funny?

I was laughing at the "he is pretty scared" Like some chick that works for an agent is going to pick that up in light conversation. :lmao:
Because of your many conversations with Priest you know that he's not much to let his emotions known when he speaks?I would think I guy having a light conversation would be more likely to let his guard down and his true feelings be known then in some official interview or press conference.
