Priest Holmes not expected to make team

The Kansas City Star doesn't believe Priest Holmes will make the team if Larry Johnson signs.

Holmes hasn't practiced with the team and says he's at least ten days away from being ready to do so. He'll probably suit up for the Chiefs preseason finale, which should be his final time in a Chiefs uniform. The whole comeback has been a bizarre exercise. Holmes probably needs an injury to Larry Johnson, Michael Bennett, or Kolby Smith just for a chance. Aug. 13 - 9:30 pm et

Does he get picked up by another team?, or was all of this just motivation to get LJ signed and get some cash? This was mentioned in another thread, and I wasn't convinced that was the case, but now I'm not so sure. Priest is probably finished.

Holmes took a beating his last few years..why he would even attempt a comback is kind of bizarre.

I live in KC and just based on the news/sports talk one certainly comes to the conclusion that the whole Priest thing is nothing more than a ploy by King Carl that Priest was more than comfortable with agreeing to be part of.

That said, you just never know.

Priest's bizarre quote about being willing to take LJ's money if he won't sign tells you everything you need to know. He is not coming back but is willing to pretend that he is coming back to align himself with management. The guy is the NFL equivalent of a scab. After LJ signs, he will cash in an injury settlement on his contract and be done.

It sure does smell fishy, huh? Did Priest apply for a FO job? Maybe it is to get a bit more for an injury settlement or then again maybe he wanted to put the squeeze baby diapy Larry, who he doesn't like.

I think Carl Peterson had a pair of deuces the entire time.
Exactly. I said it from the get go and it feels even more accurate now - this was VERY well played by Peterson / Holmes.J
But...it's not over yet.
That's true. I'd say Peterson is none to happy to be reading this type of stuff today without a contract in place.J
Joe, I always respect your opinion, but do REALLY think that LJ was threatened by a running back who has done absolutely nothing during training camp?

So what quality free agents are going to be signing up with KC after this season or any time soon? I'm guessing a nice round number.

Talk about ####ting the bed - cheap and sleazy, nice work Petersen.

Not that I am Joe, but it seems to me that whether LJ felt threatened or not is really not the point. The point is that Carl was will to TRY and make LJ feel threatened. And that is something I certainly believe happened here.

I guess that I didn't clarify my point. I give Carl Peterson all the credit in the world for trying to pull a rabbit out of the hat. I felt that maybe Joe thought that some sort of secret had been leaked by the media. LJ was not threatened by a guy who is looking at serious injury if he ever steps on the field. (No link, just my personal opinion) No argument, not putting words in someone's mouth, just my own response to what I had interpreted.P.S. That doesn't mean that I don't like to argue. :goodposting:

No argument with any of that. I just did not take Joe's response to mean anything other than he was impressed with how Carl was playing this little game. I didn't think that he ever imagined LJ felt threatened. Honestly, I can't fathom LJ being threatened by Priest. If LJ should be threatened by someone on the Chiefs, I would think Michael Bennett would be more threatening, simply because he has at least some gas left in the tank.

So did Vince McMahon script this or what? Next it'll be LJ versus Preist as the main attraction. :boxing:
