Prime (not Amazon) (1 Viewer)

The rise and fall of Prime sports drink is fascinating to me.

If you don't have kids.... about a year ago or so, Prime WAS it. All the kids had to have Prime and you could barely find it anywhere. The only place I could find it was The Vitamin Shoppe and they would bring them in, place them on a couple of pallets at the front of the store and quickly sell through the inventory at $2.99 a pop. I got them but would only let my kids have them at their sports games instead of whenever or practices. It became popular due to Youtube with Paul Logan and KSI apparently as owners.

Gradually, they started popping up everywhere and the prices started to come down.

Most recently, I have seen them on clearance at a number of stores. I have picked up a lot of it when I have seen some very good deals. I personally prefer it over Gatorade as Gatorade is water, sugar and sodium while Prime adds some Potassium, Magnesium, as well as Vitamins A, B6, B12 and E. This is very helpful like last night when I had leg cramps and I quickly drank a Prime and was better (being low on Potassium was the likely culprit). I had gone away from Gatorade a long time ago and mostly keep it towards Body Armour and Powerade for the same reasons. The clearances have suggested to me that sales have dropped significantly. Interestingly enough, while waiting for my sons basketball game, I overheard one of his teammates comment "Prime? No one drinks that anymore" when he saw my son drinking it.

It is just interesting how something came come into the market, be so popular based on marketing and scarcity and then fade away so quickly once production increases to meet the demand.

My kids still like it but they don't beg for it nearly as much as they used to.

I do feel like food/drink products do sometimes go through this cycle though, especially when their popularity is based mostly on them being cool instead of being partcularly good, just like anything else that fades in and out of "coolness" for kids. Clothing brands, for instance.

Offhand, I remember Surge being all the rage for a while there.

There's several lawsuits including this one that says:

The independent testing revealed significant levels of numerous PFAS, with the amount of Perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) in the product exceeding the EPA's recommended lifetime health advisory for drinking water by approximately three times, alleged the complaint.

This is what scared us away. True or not with the versions we were buying why risk it.

Well crap.

Shouldn't this be something easy to figure out... grab a bunch of random Primes and test them. It is just crazy enough of an idea to work.
