Pro bowl voting (1 Viewer)

It's that time of year again. The pro bowl voting is often a joke / popularity contest. But it doesn't have to be that way.

I cast a vote earlier but as I'm filling out the ballot I'm realizing that other than the skill / ff positions and some of the better known names, I'm not really sure who to vote for. Who's the 3rd best guard this year? What special teams player has stood out most? What corners really have excelled this year? (Hint, it's not always the guy with the most tackles or INT) Why Khalil Mack listed as a DE but my leagues have him as a LB? (not really a question, I know why but I'm venting).

make your case here for the unheralded guys who deserve our votes. This thread isn't intended for you to make your case for Tom Brady or Carson wentz (feel free to do so but it seems a waste of space).

Frankly, I struggled to pick the offensive line. I know Tyron Smith and Trent Williams are studs, but who else? Are Mack and pouncey the best centers? We could Google search these things but those are just other people's opinions.

What say you, O sharks of the pool?

I think you said no skill players, but I'm voting early and often for Keenan Allen. Good guy and fought like hell all the way back from two straight season-ending injuries.

This has always been a struggle for me as well, as the stats for O-linemen aren't as visible or heralded as they are for D-linemen. Would love it if there were more stats generated for these guys. In general, many of the guys have name brands but it's hard to line up the name with actual performance. Case in question: put in my vote for a guy like Osemele who (aside from my homer stance) is generally known to be a fantastic guard, coming off a Pro Bowl season last year. Have no idea how he stacks up to other guards based on his performance this year.

You can look at elements like run game efficiency, sack prevention, etc. but hard to attribute to just one guy when trying to pick a name for a Pro Bowl vote.

Didn't really mean to avoid them entirely and Allen is exactly the kind of player I intended for including in this thread. While he's top 5 in yardage and receptions, he's somewhat overlooked. Maybe that's his injury history, maybe the chargers just don't get as much publicity as the falcons or Patriots, and aren't (imo anyway) all that interesting a team. That might be changing recently as they're in competition for the West.

Osemele has only allowed one sack. Raiders are 24th ranked running behind LG with a 3.18 average per rush. I usually combine those two stats somehow in my head. The rushing I'd hold against him yet feel one sack is superb.

It's not perfect but it "does the trick" for me.

Jonnu Smith of the Titans blocks on the left by Lewan. The Titans have run there 53 times and average an NFL best 11.25 yards per carry. I think the three long runs this year were all there. The Titans have been unexciting running the ball this year. I wouldn't put Jonnu in the pro bowl. I know Lewan has been having a very nice year. It's runs around "left end" so I go look up him and he has only allowed 3 sacks. Now I'm back to geesh he has faced some top DEs and standup OLBs. Just 3 sacks? So at this point I would be comfy with Lewan for the pro bowl. Those are my thoughts, hope it helps

Tell you one guy I am absolutely voting for:

FB Derrick Coleman, ATL Falcons.

As a Tevin Coleman owner, have watched nearly all Falcons games this year, and he's a major reason why Freeman and T. Coleman are able to find those lanes. He's also the first deaf offensive player in the NFL, and the team does a great job communicating in huddles and with audibles to ensure he can read lips and get the play right. Pretty impressive.
