Griffin is the only one I wonder about, because I think he could wind up playing either CB or S. Ellis, Spencer, Berry, Thomas, and Davis are LBs. Redding is a DTKiwanuka is a LB...but I would keep an eye out for what may happen if Strahan retires. As to the position a site classifies them, I hope they get them right.

Do you have any names to add AB?

I was just looking for the names of all the guys and got it started with a few.

And this thread was geared towards the software designation and resulting problems.

The obvious players are the OLB/DE on teams that run the 3-4. Other than these, there are only a handful of players at other positions who may have classification issues.

Okeafor is one that comes to mind. He will play OLB for the Cardinals this year.

Cool AB.

Also..

DE Brett Keisel of the Steelers is supposed to get some serious LB time.
That is one I haven't heard...you have a link?
Here is one first hand report from a fan at thursdays camp (SteelerFan448 at SteelerNation)...
DEFENSE

Defense worked out of the 3-4. I didn't notice any 4-3 mixed in.

*Our starting DL is definitely one of the best in football. I noticed one instance Keisel was standing up in his 'rover' position. ...
And this is from Len Pasquarelli camp report from ESPN...
Two other names to keep in mind as the Steelers seek a pass-rush replacement for the departed Joey Porter: James Harrison and Brett Keisel. The former, a second-year veteran, is quick and athletic and may surprise some people. Keisel, the starting right defensive end, will be used more as a rover this season. On Tuesday, he rushed the pocket from all over the place, including the middle.

It sucks I gave up Keisel for peanuts because of a contract year issue, I'm guessing he'll post some nice numbers this year in my scoring system.

I didn't want to start another thread on this but does anyone know when MFL may change position designations for guys like B. Thomas and C. Gocong (listed as DE not LB)? Do we have to wait till Sept.?

Thanks!

Usually happens after the second preseason week when the teams have submitted their "official" depth charts and MFL can examine more than one gamebook.

I remember after someone mentioned the changes on ESPN leagues, I looked into a few players.

Suggs and Spencer were mentioned, but Lamar Woodley is also listed as a DE on the site.

Compilation of names listed so far (with a couple more thrown in) and current MFL designations:

Bert Berry DE * lb

Adam Carriker DE

Thomas Davis LB

Greg Ellis LB

Chris Gocong DE * lb

Brent Hawkins LB * de

Line through those I think are correctly designated as-is. Adjusted other positions where I think most appropriate.

So you think Hester should stay a WR?
I'll admit I don't pay as close attention to deeper tier offensive players, but isn't Hester a WR now? Is he taking any defensive snaps at all? I'll go searching here...brb.Bears.com (Aug 14)

After 10 weeks of offseason workouts, 20 training camp practices and one preseason game, it’s evident that the converted cornerback has made major strides at the wide receiver position.
Bears.com (May)
Coach Lovie Smith revealed Monday that All-Pro return specialist Devin Hester will switch from defense to offense beginning with this weekend’s full-squad minicamp.

...

“I think he would be an excellent defensive back also. We just feel that this is in the best interest of us and him for him to achieve his full potential as a football player.”
I didn't find anything to suggest that he's taking snaps as a corner this summer.

OK, I wasn't sure where he was practicing. MFL's comments from July 5th just seemed a little off-the-cuff.

Two player position changes were made today:

CHI: Devin Hester was changed from CB to WR. This should help for most leagues that want to have him available as a Wide Receiver. If you have an IDP league and still want to use him as a Cornerback, your commissioner can change him back to a CB by using the "Setup > Change Player Position" screen.

DET: Cory Redding from DE to DT.
Thanks, I'll just leave him at WR.

So is Berry still a LB? Is Arizona going back to the 4-3 after Okeafor's injury? On the cardinals website depth chart, it lists Berry as a DE(in a 4-3).

I haven't seen any Cardinal games to know. BST and a couple of others who have are saying that the Cards are still predominantly a 3-4 team. The gamebooks are listing a 4-3 but have been wrong before.

In the other thread I noted that last night they were 3-4 about 40% or so. 4-3 in a slight majority.

FWIW, MFL email about partnership with rotoworld:

MyFantasyLeague.com Site News: Commissioner News - Player Database Updates & Partnership With Rotoworld.com

We're happy to announce a new partnership with Rotoworld.com - in this partnership, they are now the official source for all of our player database position changes.

If you have follow-up questions or suggestions based on this newsletter, please be sure to submit a support ticket to us via your Help > How To Get Additional Help page, rather than replying via email. Our support ticketing system allows us to respond to your questions and suggestions much faster than email does.

Long-term, what this means to our customers is you should see more timeliness and accuracy in our player database, especially with regards to Individual Defensive Players (IDPs). We're confident that this change will be a noticeable improvement in our player database management for IDP leagues, and it should have little impact on non-IDP leagues.

Shorter-term, this means we will be publishing a player database update tomorrow (Thursday, August 23rd), at 4am ET that will change the position of several players, as listed on this page, to bring our current player database in sync with Rotoworld.com's player database.

For non-IDP leagues, the only significant player position change is Michael Koenen, from PK (kicker) to PN (punter).

For all leagues, but especially IDP leagues, we strongly suggest you review this entire list, to understand all of the players being changed, and understand how that might impact various league rules, especially those leagues with roster position limits, and players that are currently on a roster. For example, if your league requires an owner to have at least 2 DE's on his roster, and he currently has two, but one of his two will be changed to a DT effective Thursday, then his roster will become invalid on Thursday.

While we feel strongly that this partnership will make our product even better, we understand that not all customers will agree with these position changes. Any league that does not agree with any of these position changes can over-ride these changes as they see fit on a player-by-player basis, after this update is published on Thursday, by using the For Commissioners > Setup > Players and Rosters > Change Player Position page, to change any player's position to any other position as you see fit.

McBride and Meriweather are the only two questionables here. This should put to rest most of the positional concerns moving forward -- if Rotoworld correctly manages their charts rather than copying the data from NFL.com as they've done in the past.

Anyone know when the official depth charts are posted on NFL.com? Our league goes by the teams official site listed on NFL.com and the team sites, Ravens in particular, don't have their depth charts out yet.

I looked at that list, and noticed at least one thing odd:

Sam Rayburn, if SF is using him as a DE, I'd be pretty shocked. he palyed DT in Philly exclusively. he wasinside in the game I saw.

On Berry, he really is playing in both spots, from what I saw on TV. I figure they had to change one, and Okeafor was the more obvious one.

In most 3-4s the DE is essentially a DT as he is lined-up next to a designated rushing LB. Kimo was a DE in Pit but for all practical purposes was really a DT.

Demarcus Ware is a LB in MFL

I just noticed the changes made at MFL but didn't see that article before now.

* BUF: Ryan Neufeld from TE to RB* BUF: Brad Cieslak from TE to RB
even though these aren't IDPs, these changes seem stupid to me. they will be playing H-back, which is a lot more like a TE than a FB, IMO.using rotoworld is probably an upgrade over the earlier system though.

Kris Wilson got hit with that as well. The only winners I see are Berry, Bing, and Cody.

For ESPN Leagues, just held our 40 round draft, with IDP's, CB and DT required, and some observations:

ESPN is screwy! Will try and convince the commish to go back to MFL.

Madieu Williams is listed as a CB. That's a nice CB to have.

Terrell Suggs has been moved to LB, already mentioned. But it appears he can be used as both, upon checking. Yep, LB/DE.

Adam Carriker is listed as a DE.

Anthony Spencer is a DE.

Cory Redding is a DT/DE. You can use him as both--top fantasy DT, IMO.

Luis Castillo is listed as a DT, but I think Olshansky is a DE.

Bryan Thomas-DE.

Thomas Davis--SAFETY.

Antoine Bethea-CB.

Richard Seymour--DT.

DaMarcus Ware--DE/LB. Can be used as either one.

Mathias Kiwanuka--DE

Kamerion Wimbley-DE

By the way, as I checked my league's rosters for this post, I noticed that Jamaal Anderson is currently listed as a RB. Unreal.

yes, I noticed these weird positions for some players in ESPN as well. My question is, does Thomas Davis get a value increase being a DB, and if so, where would he rank among some of the other DBs?

Geathers moves from DL to LB:

"Lewis said Robert Geathers (an end) is now a linebacker and will play linebacker Sunday against the Jets. "He is a linebacker now," Lewis said. "As permanent as right now can be. ... Robert has all the athletic skills you want.""

http://frontier.cincinnati.com/blogs/benga...eport-notes.asp

Geathers has already been doing a pretty good job at DL this year, takle friendly leagues should see possibly a big jump in production.

He was this past Sunday also, he lined up all over the place.
