Pros/Cons of starting #1 AND #2 WR for same team (1 Viewer)

I've been thinking about this way too much, but what are the pros/cons of starting both #1/#2 WRs for a team, especially in the case of Indy (Wayne/Gonzo) this week?

(This isn't a WDIS question... that question is over here.)

I always look at these situations in terms of each player individually. If you can make a case for starting them both over your other option independently of them being on the same team, you do it. If you only had Gonzalez, would you start him? If your other options are guys like Nate Burleson or Lee Evans, you have to give strong consideration to it.

If you think the Colts sit Wayne and Peyton, you have to consider that as well. But I don't think the fact that they play on the same team should sway you at all.

I am starting both Moss and Welker because Moss is a no-brainer and Welker is still a WR1 (top 12). In your situation, Gonzalez is not a WR1, maybe a WR2. And week to week, Indy's WR2 changes. Mostly it has been Clark in the WR2 role. If Harrison was healthy and the discussion was Harrison and wayne, then I'd say yes. Gonzo? Tough choice, depends on the matchup and your alternatives. To answer your question:

PROS:

1. Indy is a high powered offense, they will both gettheir looks.

2. Playing in Indy

3. Still playing for something?

CONS:

1. If Manning has a bad day, they both will also (putting all of your eggs in one basket). Look at Brady/Moss/Welker from last week.

2. Will they play the entire game if they have a lead?

3. If they decide to run more than pass, you're SOL.

The past 4 weeks...Clark has not been the #2 really...Gonzo has been except for one week of the 4.Clark the past 4 weeks

3 receptions 15 yards

7 receptions 60 yards 2 TDs

1 reception 15 yards

1 reception 9 yards

Gonzo in that time frame (which I used because he missed the two games previous to that)

6 receptions 105 yards

1 reception 22 yards

6 receptions 134 yards 2 TDs

7 receptions 80 yards 1 TD

Seems Gonzo is the clear #2. And if they sit Wayne at any time, he is the #1.

I've been rolling with Chad Johnson and T.J. Houshmanzadeh all year, and it's worked out quite well (they're both starting our SB game this week too). In general, if the pair come from a team that throws a lot it can work well, but seems particularly effective if both tend to get roughly the same number of looks game in, game out. If your league's scoring uses PPR (ours does), that's just a bonus.

I would be fine with CJ and Housh since they will have to throw but I'd be more worried loading up on players from a team that will start sitting guys in the 3rd quarter

Bingo. Outscore the competition. I have zero qualms about starting TO and Whitten weekly.
