posse: body of men, typically armed, summoned by a sheriff to enforce the law.

 
In the interest of inclusiveness, political correctness, and harmony, the Insane Clown Posse would like to announce that they will now be called the Insane Clown People going forward.

Yep let's just assume and imply he is a racist because you may think he wouldn't when talking about a white player. 

Can we realy answer this with certainty?

When I was in high school we considered a group of 10 or more of us to be a posse. When we were getting together and there were less than ten of us we were disappointed ,  because we wouldn't be running with a posse that night . 

Full disclosure : they don't come much whiter and dorkier than the posse I ran with in high school . Except for Myung-Ho the Goth Asian guy. He was our token Ethnic. 

 
I don't know why, maybe because I'm racist, but when I hear posse, black people aren't a group that comes to mind.  :shrug:

 
I imagine a posse to be a group of men in the old West that the British sheriff, John Cleese, would call up to round up bad guys. Like in Silverado.

 
To keep things accurate, the quote in the OP wasn't from James.  It was James' business partner and childhood friend Maverick Carter.

 
Phil is more hip than I thought to throw out posse......Posse: Your crew,  your gang, team or group of close friends, your inner circle

 
Phil's obviously meant it to be a dig at LeBron but not racial. LeBron is just using race as an excuse to feel better about himself.

I know this song is about the censorship craze in the late 80s spearheaded by Tipper Gore, but apply some of the lyrics of this song to modern day and I think you successfully encapsulate the noise from both liberals and conservatives. 

 
Damn, I've called my daughter's friends her posse a ton of times.  And she's a typical hugely liberal, save the environment, treat everyone equally white girl.  Based on her not calling me out on it, my conclusion can only be that posse is not racist even a little.  Or believe me I'd have heard about it.  And heard about it.  And heard about it...

 
Heard a reaction to this today that stated that this was brought up and allowed to snowball due to the garbage from the election over the last several weeks.

I think it was meant to more demeaning/belittling than racist.

 
Lebron is trying to discredit the old school "get off my lawn" types like Phil and Riley by blowing this out of proportion because his brand has been slighted. 

 
It seems to me that "posse" is an succinct, and actually more polite, way of referring to a group of hanger on-ers.  It's more descriptive than "group," and less offensive than "gang."  :shrug:

 
I didn't know you could use the word Maverick as a legit first name...since Tom Cruise is as white as they come I think Maverick Carter is the one that should be apologizing...not Phil Jackson...

 
Lebron's comments are meh, but "posse" isn't a term associated with anything honkey.  Phil Jackson needs to keep his big mouth shut, he's the king of the ######s.

Pretty much. Lebron got carried away with the implied racism stuff but it was more about not getting "respect". 

Still pretty stupid and who cares but I can see this point at least a little.
