Puka Dynasty Trade Offer (1 Viewer)

I just won in a very competitive league last year. 14 team, 1QB, TE Premium. My core:

QB: Goff, Richardson

RB: Bijan Robinson, Gibbs, Montgomery, Javonte Williams, Dobbins

WR: ARSB, Puka, London, Olave

TE: Smith, Kraft (very weak here)

My contract is up with Puka, so I put a franchise tag on him. I got two strong offers: (1) Ladd McConkey; or (2) 1.05 and 1.06.

I can keep him for an additional year or accept one of those offers. Thoughts?

I agree with 1.05 and 1.06 BUT - if you think you can run it back it is tempting to stand pat. Taking the 2 draft picks can help keep you competitive long term, especially in a 14 teamer. Your team is pretty solid so it would be tough to give up a guaranteed productive/top WR for future picks that aren't guaranteed to hit.

I don't think Ladd is enough even though I like Ladd. Its a tricky one as the Ladd owner knows you have franchised him so your options "may" be limited.

If you take Ladd what is his contract situation? Does it reset? If that is the case its not a bad offer as you get immediate production to keep competing.

Dynasty value long term 1.05 and 1.06 is solid.

BUT if you want to try to run it back and win again (that is why we play the game - to WIN) then I would keep Puka or trade for Ladd if you can keep him long term.

Another option if you stick with Puka or trade for Ladd is you can always make trades mid season if it looks like you might not win again - you just might not get two "early" firsts...

Great analysis. If I trade for Ladd, he has an open contract because he's on taxi. I can give him a big contract (like 5 or 6 years). I can only franchise tag Puka one more year. The 1.05 and 1.06 will most likely be Judkins and Henderson. Not bad, but they're not guaranteed to hit and I'm good at RB. I could take the 1.05 and 1.06 and shop around myself. I need to make the decision by tonight. It's probably just safer to keep Puka.

I think you should take the other offer (not mentioned) with the cash, Tank Dell, etc.
Just kidding. When i saw those other offers, I knew mine wasn't even in the ballpark.

In all seriousness, as much as the two mid-1st's would be tempting (and might hold the most value on paper), I think McConkey might be the best answer given the status of your team currently. You are in a win-now situation. McConkey, with the difference in years (whatever you want versus just one for Puka), holds a lot of value, both immediately and long-term. Of course, I'm pretty high on him.... Wouldn't surprise me at all if he outscored Puka this year.

So much for me be trying to be sneaky. LMAO! I knew someone would find me. LOL!

I think the ability to keep Ladd for 5 or 6 years while Puka is only 2 years is worth that swap. I would much rather have Ladd over the picks. Picks are a crap shoot and may never pan out. I think the value of Ladd and locking him in for 5 years is more valuable than the picks. I would make that move.

I don't mind this idea if you can keep Ladd for that long.

Having said that, one more thing to ponder. Judkins and Henderson for example (at 5 and 6) may more may not work out but sometimes starting RBs are worth more than Ladd. Only you know your league and value of players but I would think if Henderson and Judkins for example work out you could get Ladd for one of them. Maybe 1.05 could get you Ladd or an equivalent and then you also have 1.06. Something to think about and the value of those picks.

I think swapping Puka for longterm Ladd makes sense. I agree with Gally that taking the 2 firsts is riskier and you don't really need RB but wouldn't one of the TE's be there? McMillian? Or shop a first and get even more draft picks.

Ladd is better to keep the chances of winning this year. The two draft picks raise the value of the dynasty team giving more flexibility and I believe long term success.

But the goal is to win a chip and I don't fault one for going for Ladd to keep the Ws coming.

While the two picks definitely gives the team more flexibility I don't think it really gives it any more long term success. The risk of those picks busting is much, much higher than Ladd busting as he has already shown he can play in the NFL.

I do like you idea of flipping one of those picks into Ladd - if that is possible. That probably gives you the best of both worlds. You get a pick to get a RB or TE and you get Ladd to replace Puca long term. Doing those kind of deals is tricky though. Too many times they don't work out the way you plan but it is at least worth investigating.

Yeah that is what I was getting at, if I am contending I'm seeing if I can flip one of those picks for Ladd or the equivalent and then I still have an extra first to play with. I'm pretty good at wheeling and dealing and would ensure I have a fairly decent offer lined up before I made the first deal for the picks.

If you are good at trading the 2 firsts can provide you with more than just Ladd. I'm confident in my trading even if I have to wait a bit closer to the season.

Remember draft picks don't get hurt, traded or retire and only gain value the closer to the draft. And in a 14 team league those 2 picks are worth even more and I feel I could do a lot with them.

I don't know the league though so I'm not sure how many trades are made and what people value WRs at etc. I'm just trying to give a bunch of options but in a nutshell those 2 picks, value wise, are worth more than Puka or Ladd. It just depends what you can do with them and where your team stands.
