Punt and Kickoff Returners '08 (1 Viewer)

Mon, Nov 24 TE Delanie Walker added kickoff return to his duties after Allen Rossum went down with an ankle sprain in the second quarter. Walker averaged 22.4 yards on five kickoff returns, including a 35-yarder. Walker played sparingly on offense and did not catch a pass. He was returning to the lineup after missing one game with a shoulder sprain.

Possible sneaky play at TE in return leagues if you're bare at TE and Rossum is going to miss significant time.

With Camarillo going down, I assume that makes Ginn the #1 WR. Any word if Ginn maintains the return duties in this scenario?

I'm pretty sure Ginn will still have return duties. He is their return specialist after they found out how bad the other ones were in the first half of the season. He have said that he loves doing it and it gets him warmed up for the next offensive drive. With Camarillo out, Ginn's value just skyrocketed.

Same thing happened in a game earlier this year, then Rossum recovered in time to play the next week. Any status updates?

mmm... this could be good. Bump for any Rossum news.

Per Rotoworld:49ers KR Allen Rossum (ankle) has been ruled out for Week 13.

Presumably, San Francisco will use Michael Robinson on kickoffs now. The 49ers are very unlikely to get a return touchdown against Buffalo on Sunday.

I don't know why they would say that Robinson would get the kickoffs now. Anyone have any other news on this. I did notice earlier in the week that Rotoworld got it wrong when they said Rossum left the game and Robinson replaced him when the official box scores has Delanie Walker as the replacement. Maybe they are just continuing with the wrong name.

Yeah, that's odd...both times Rossum had an in game injury, the put Walker back there. I would think Robinson would be more involved in the game plan than Walker, so not sure why they drew that conclusion.

SAN FRANCISCO

Nate Clements couldn't have picked a better opportunity for a bounce-back game. The 49ers cornerback not only will be playing against his former team but he'll likely be the team's primary punt returner as well. Regular returer Allen Rossum already has been ruled out with an ankle injury. Meanwhile, Rossum's back up, Arnaz Battle (foot), was listed as limited on today's injury report. But in the locker room, Battle said he wouldn't practice today and didn't know if he'd practice all week. Which leaves Clements, who had 65 punt returns in six years with the Bills. *****update****** Battle went through individual drills but was held out of team drills.

Thu, Nov 27 Matt Maiocco, of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports San Francisco 49ers CB Allen Rossum (ankle) missed the team's practice Thursday, Nov. 27, and he is out for Week 13.

(KFFL)Wed, Nov 26 Matt Maiocco, of The Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports San Francisco 49ers CB Allen Rossum (ankle) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Nov. 26. He will not play in the team's Week 13 game.

(KFFL)Wed, Nov 26 KR Allen Rossum (ankle) has already been ruled out of action for Sunday's game. Veteran Nate Clements will likely return punts, while Delanie Walker would take over on kickoff returns.

Sat, Nov 29 With Allen Rossum out, Walker is expected to handle at least a portion of the 49ers' kick return duties, the Sacramento Bee reports.

Anybody know what the Raiders return situation is for tonight? Is JLH returning just punts or both?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Justin Miller has been fielding all Kick Returns since his signing last month. Higgins is reduced to Punts. For anyone that has been watching any Bills games, perhaps you can comment on why McKelvin's return numbers have been reduced? Are teams kicking away from him?

I think the last game was just lack of opportunity (It was a 10-3 game, I think). The game before that it seemed like they were trying to kick away from him and kicking bouncers to the 20, rather than a deep kickoff into the end zone.

McKelvin has also been seeing more time on D with injuries to their secondary.

Anyone have any info on A. Rossum coming back this week. With K. Winslow now out I would like to have another shot at using Delanie Walker in the KR role. He only had a couple chances last week with Buffalo only scoring 3 points. At least we know that Walker is doing the returns if Rossum is out again this week.

Tue, Dec 9 KR Courtney Roby, who injured his right ankle in the third quarter of Sunday's game with the Atlanta Falcons, was put on injured reserve Monday.

Not sure if Pierre Thomas will be the KR

Pierre will return more kicks

The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports that Pierre Thomas could potentially take over the full-time kick return duties, even though he has become a centerpiece of the offense. "I just think at this time of the year, it's not uncommon to see guys that are starters serving as a kick returner or a punt returner," coach Sean Payton said. "With our situation right now, I'm glad we have him. Obviously, returning that yesterday was significant."

Our View: This is good news if you own him and you play in a league that rewards return stats, but if you do not, this could mean less touches on offense. Regardless, it appears that Thomas is the No. 2 back behind Reggie Bush heading down the stretch.

I hope this means they won't reduce his carries. He's now a must start in return yardage leagues.

I know Josh Wilson is probable for this week but he's coming off a concussion any chance they take him off return duties?
