Punt and Kickoff Returners '08 (1 Viewer)

Thoughts on Denver return game, now with Hall out? KO returns was a nice boost for Eddie Royal.
bump for any news on the above....specifically is Shanny a 'it's too much of a workload/risk for a starting offensive skill player to return all kicks as well' kind of guy...not like with Shanny we would ever know...

I'm also interested in hearing any thoughts on Stanley with Hall out. Looks like he had a few decent returns last year with one fumble. Whats his college experience doing kr/pr duties?

Derek Stanley - #19 - Wide Receiver - 5'11" - 179lbs

Mon. Nov 3, 2008 | RotoWire

News: Stanley will be the Rams' new punt and kick returner now that Dante Hall has been placed on the injured reserve.

Impact: Stanley was already splitting duties with Hall before the injury so now it's his for the rest of the year to show what he can do. He also has an excellent chance to get more playing time as the third or fourth receiver as Drew Bennett was also placed on injured reserve Monday. Stanley's primary competition for the receiving spots will be rookie Keenan Burton and veteran Dane Looker.

Bumped again to ask if anyone has more news about Royal on punt returns/kick-offs with Hall out i.e. will he do both or will someone like Martinez be getting involved?

News: The Raiders placed Branch (shoulder) on injured reserve on Wednesday, the Oakland Tribune reports.

Impact: Branch was injured last Sunday returning a kick against Atlanta. Branch didn't provide much fantasy-wise, but the Raiders will certainly miss him on special teams.

Bump Higgins back up.

I landed both Stanley & C Smith in my 16 teamer last night... we play 1 KR in our line up... and the KR only gets Return pts, but its a lot of pts.I had a good night.

No one even knows about the Den RBs, let alone the KR.
I would have thought the KR news would be easier to gauge from practice, plus less likelihood of secrecy, even with Shanahan?
How about if we back into the answer....does anyone know if Marinez was even active last week? If so, and got no action, we may.....I stress may, have an answer. If inactive last week then we have gained nada...

Awesome!

If Mewelde Moore does kick returns this weekend, he is a must start guys. They released Davenport. Just giving a heads up.

Ginn! He's finally starting to look like the guy we drafted to start the year.
Yep, he's looking good. Next week might be a bad matchup for him though because Oakland can't score and Nmandi might cover Ginn. If Nmandi covers Camarillo than Ginn is an automatic start.

Edited to delete because no one cares that much about my team.Suffice it to say I really wish this was the Ted Ginn we'd seen all year.

Any thoughts why the Packers continue to share the KR role between Blackmon and Nelson? Blackmon had a great week with the PR TD but I use Blackmon in an IDP slot and rely solely on his KR and PR numbers. If he's only getting 2 KR per game because of the role sharing, I'll become rather concerned.

KR Johnnie Lee Higgins could be replaced again on both punts and kickoffs after losing the opening kickoff, which resulted in a Carolina touchdown, and playing poorly on punt returns. Candidates include Rashad Baker and Michael Waddell in both specialties, as well as Michael Bush on kickoffs.

has there been a standout in the return game this yr? I really can't think of one... I guess defenses catch up to the returner.

I drafted both Breaston and Ginn. Thank goodness one of them is turning out to produce as hoped.
Steve Breaston = Steve BEASTon. He's the #6 WR in my league. 50 points more than Plax and 36 more than Cotchery, my "main" WRs. And I'm glad I hung onto Ginn. He's also outscored both those guys after these last few weeks of putting up the types of numbers originally expected.

Martinez waived - The Denver Broncos announced on Tuesday that they have waived receiver Glenn Martinez, according to Scout.com.

Mike,

I noticed that Kevin Robinson got all the returns for KC last week. Do you know if that was because the planned on using D. Savage on offense or did Robinson just take over the return duties? With Larry Johnson back this week I'm sure Savage won't be getting any carries. Will he go back to doing returns? Anyone see anything?

Thanks

This thread has been great, I have grabbed so many KRs and PRs from my league w/ the info I get here..

I have an AC question... my league awards one KR, that player only recieves pts from Returns... no one else on the team gets any Returns pts. So which ever player I select for the KR can only get the return pts... the more Returns the better

I have following bunch

A Carson - Det: vs Car

M Jones - Car: vs Det

C Smith - TB: vs Min

Stanley - StL: vs SF

Figurs - Bal: vs NYG

P Thomas - NOS: vs KCC

Hester - Chi: vs GB ** I have been using Hester at WR since the rest of my line up is so thin, but w/ J Hill stepping up, I may be able to finally turn Hester back into a KR.

I'm rolling with Cason, figure he'll get a lot of kickoff duty this week. I also have Stanley as an option, and Figurs (both punt and K.O. this week) is a WW option. I've been using Demps and Witherspoon all year, but Del Rio has lost confidence in the rookie. If Clifton Smith were available he might be my first choice.

Good article in RotoTimes summarizing the return game for all matchups this week:

Anyone got any news on Brian Witherspoon? Is he going to be active this week and returning kicks?
 From the link in the post above yours...

Head coach Jack Del Rio has made it clear that he no longer trusts Brian Witherspoon, who had 167 total return yards against the Titans in Week 1. Maurice Jones-Drew is handling punts, and it looks like Troy Williamson (and maybe Montell Owens) will be in on kickoffs this week. Jones-Drew should be able to have a big day against Titans coverage units that have struggled all season. We won’t go as far as to predict a touchdown, but the Jags may have good field position.

LOOKER READY

With Derek Stanley nursing a sore ankle, the Rams will deploy Travis Minor to return kicks and Dane Looker to return punts vs. Frisco. After being among the Rams' inactives for three of the last five games, Looker is eager for the opportunity.

"People always say, 'Man, you're crazy to return punts.' But it's something that I've always liked," Looker said. "Any time I can get my hands on the ball, it's a bonus for me."

Thanks. I guess in 9 pages of information about kickreturners I missed it. Thanks for your understanding! :towelwave:

Fri, Nov 21 Devin Hester has been replaced by Danieal Manning as Chicago's No. 1 kick returner, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Recommendation: What a difference a season makes. Deemed by many over the past few seasons as the most dangerous kick returner ever, Hester has been ineffective this year. He's lost his return duties, at least for the time being, though it wouldn't be surprising to see him get a few opportunities unless Manning is immediately effective. Still, as nothing more than the No. 3 or 4 receiver in Chicago's conservative offense, Hester probably deserves to be in the free agency pool in all but the deepest of leagues.

Wow

TD's today from Demps, Clifton Smith (plus 200 return yard bonus) and McKelvin (even though it was on D, I had him in for his return stats) and then 158 yards on kickoffs plus 5 catches for Ginn. Speacial teams saved me this week with Bush not playing and Westbrook getting shut down, thanks to this thread!
