PUP list (1 Viewer)

So today I read that the Raiders put Gallery and Curry on the PUP (physically unable to perform) list. I know that if that is done before the season a guy has to sit the first six weeks. What does it mean if a team puts a guy on the PUP list right now?

Being on the active PUP list, players can join workouts when they are medically cleared for practice. Going on the inactive PUP list means a player must sit out at least the first six games of the year. Inactive PUP is generally not used until season starts.

IIRC, PUP in the preseason basically means that you need to be cleared to play and taken off of the list to participate in team activities and practices. Once you get taken off the PUP list, you can't go back on in the preseason. I'm not sure what the benefit/rationale is for putting someone on the preseason PUP list, unless a team can have a limited amount of people in camp and they can look at other players instead.

Once the regular season starts, players placed on the inactive PUP list will have to miss the first 6 games of the season.

Bottom line, players on the PUP list for the preseason/training camp really has no impact on their status for the regular season.

That's it. A team is limited to a number of players on its preseason roster at the beginning and at differing intervals. A player on the preseason PUP is not counted against that total. By placing Gallery on the PUP, they can look at more players in camp.

Thanks guys. I was 99% sure it didn't mean anything for the regular season right now, but I wanted to make sure.
