QB Carson Wentz, MIN (2 Viewers)

I found this part interesting.  So there is more to it than 2 third round picks and salary dump.

The Colts shipped the 29-year-old Wentz to the Washington Commanders on Wednesday in exchange for a pair of third-round picks, a league source said, one of which can become a second-rounder if Wentz plays a certain number of snaps next season. The deal was first reported by ESPN. The teams will also swap second-round picks this spring. The deal can’t be made official until the new league year begins on March 16.

The Commanders originally came in offering a fourth-rounder and a sixth-rounder, and talks intensified Tuesday after Washington missed out on Russell Wilson. Washington will assume all of Wentz’s 2022 salary — roughly $28 million — letting the Colts off the hook for the $15 million they owed him even if they cut him.

 
I wouldn't underestimate the fact that Washington is taking on the entire contract as a large part of the return they got.

This is coming from a writer named Jeff McLane. He's known to write a lot of bull#### and is jealous of the teams success after an incident involving him and team in the media press box several seasons ago. He's viewed as a literal joke inside the orgnization. With Covid and media not allowed in person Eagles staff would pretend to have Tech Issues or intentionally mute him when he'd be on asking a question. Sirianni and players would intentionally side track his questions too. Most of the other media members think he's a pompous #######. 

He made a claim that Jason Kelce had a physical Altercation with Doug Pederson during the WAS game where he benched Hurts. Never happened and Kelce and some players had a miscommunication with Coaches as the plan was never to have hurts play the whole game. He was just taken out sooner then they had been first told. 

Jeff also claimed that year Owner Jeffrey Lurie didn't fly to ClE as he was upset with teams play. ESPN Eagles Reporter Tim McManus denounced the report and said Lurie was taking precautions with Covid as he was flying to Boston that week for Thanksgiving to see his mother

Jeff wrote a report that Howie Roseman had a Shrine of Wentz in his office. The supposed shrine was a painted picture on the Wall with Wentz and several other Eagles in an action shot. 

In other words if a report says Reported by Jeff McLane for the Eagles it's mostly false. Considering my coworkers son Worked for the team on Doug's staff and I know Kelce's Father in law as he does security work at my company and friends with Jason's wife I've called Jeff out on a ton of BS to where he blocked me on twitter.

Wrong he's liked by a lot of coaches and teammates. Don't believe all the reports on the media about him. A lot of it is sugar coated especially by some in the Eagles media who hold grudges against certain players people for whatever reason.

The report is coming from a guy known for BS reports on the Eagles.

Isray never wanted him to begin with. He also never gave the guy a chance or didn't seem to allow Ballard to fix issues surrounding the team. IMHO Wentz is being scape goated for a failed season by most of the team. Isray was talked into Wentz by Reich and Ballard. Doesn't seem like Wentz really was ever going to get a fair shot in Indy from what I read into a lot of this stuff.

I can tell you that he was disliked by his teammates in Indy.  He made too many bad plays that killed drives, had 8 fumbles lost, and couldn’t seem to play within himself.  He didn’t understand that he didn’t need to play every play with his hair on fire and try to make the hero play.  He was lucky to only throw 7 ints.  Should have been more.  One thing in his defense the Colts OL, even though good at run blocking, they weren’t very good pass blocking and had several injuries at different points in the season.

Because Hurts is a back up at best. Wentz did more with less when here and the Eagles don't make the super bowl without him. Foles numbers outside the playoffs were pretty mediocre as a starter his last go around. 

Also just reading a lot of pieces and considering some of the people I know the Philly media as well as in the org (former coach on Doug's staff, Know Jason' Kelce's Wife and Father in-law) a lot of the reports especially when it comes from Jeff Mclane are false or sugar coated. Most former teammates of his have stood up for him and even Foles was pretty hurt by the article from Philly voice as the source was Alshon Jeffrey and Josina Anderson who ALshon was dating at the time. 

This isn't saying Wentz isn't easy to worth with sometimes but a lot of QBs aren't easy to work with. Tom Brady is considered the biggest ####### of a teammate in the NFL the last 2 decades and literally got a QB traded because he complained to Kraft.  Wentz needs good cop/bad cop type coaching. Zach Taylor who was in Philly with Carson was too friendly with him and Doug didn't have a guy on staff with balls to be the bad cop.

Which teammates were they? Because I've only seen several who have defended him. Plus I think most of those guys should be looking at themselves in the mirror because they all looked like they didn't care against Jacksonville.

It is said inside Colts circles that Wenz couldn’t handle hard coaching.

As an Eagles fan as well,  I think after you get canned/traded by 2 organizations, 2 years straight, with declining value in each subsequent trade, and there are multiple anonymous sources in the background from teammates, from both teams, saying the same theme of things - there probably has to be truth to it. 

 
So in summary.  1. Wentz isn't as bad of a guy as people think.  2. he's also not good enough  3.  One year tryout for WAS, and they cut him if he sucks.  4. he's less of an issue than Danny owning the team.  5. Same as it ever was in WAS 😂

 
The Athletic's Mike Sando reports an NFL executive said "nobody" competed against Washington in acquiring Carson Wentz. 

The Commanders in March acquired Wentz and a second rounder from the Colts in exchange for a second-round pick and two third rounders. Washington agreed to pay Wentz's $28 million guaranteed compensation, a perplexing concession if no other team wanted Wentz after the disastrous end to his one season in Indianapolis. “If you polled the entire league and said you can have Taylor Heinicke for $2 million and you have $26 million to spend plus two third-round picks, or you can have Carson Wentz, I’m pretty sure the majority would prefer Heinicke,” an executive told Sando. “I’d rather have Baker Mayfield and $8 million.”

Part of me thinks they could have sold Wentz by saying there were 2 other teams interested, without telling the Commanders that it was the Football Team and the Redskins. That feels like something Dan Snyder and co. would fall for. 

I disagree with part of that executive's take. I'd certainly rather pay Wentz than start Heinicke, that guy was horrible, and probably should be a #3 QB. However, I'd 100% agree that Mayfield is better, and saving 8 million in the process would be nice. 

Its interesting looking back at Washington's 2021 season though. Truth be told, I think they probably take Philly's spot in the playoffs if Wentz is their QB instead of Heinicke last year.

Here are a couple of surprising stats I just found. In 2021, the leader in pass DYAR on deep passes (20+ air yards) was... Derek Carr! More surprising, the leader in pass DVOA on deep passes (min. 25) was Carson Wentz! The stats include DPI. (1/2)

The Washington Post's Nicki Jhabvala reports Carson Wentz "is viewed by [Washington] coaches as more than just a bridge player or even an experimental fix."

If true, it means the team won't use their first round pick on a quarterback in next week's NFL Draft. Commanders head coach Ron Rivera has said repeatedly this offseason that the team sees Wentz as a long-term answer under center for a franchise that has long sought a viable starting quarterback. After playing his way out of Indianapolis after one season -- alienating coaches and teammates alike -- Wentz, 29, will look to revive his fledgling career in Washington this season. He'll be the team's presumed starter over last year's starting QB Taylor Heinicke, who in 2021 had a higher completion rate over expected than Wentz and a similar expected points added (EPA) per drop back.

The Athletic's Ben Standig reports Carson Wentz has had "an assortment pack of misfires" during Commanders training camp.​

"Quarterbacks throwing to receivers against air (with no defense) is the football equivalent of a layup line," Standig said. "Yet, Wentz routinely has bricked passes in various directions. Overthrowing or firing too far out front has been the most common issue." Inaccuracy issues dogged Wentz during his final couple seasons with the Eagles and his lone season with the Colts. In 2021, Wentz had the league's sixth worst completion rate over expected. His misfires were cringe worthy during the final month of the season, when the Colts did everything they could to hide their struggling quarterback. Washington head coach Ron Rivera dismissed concerns about Wentz's camp struggles. “It’s a lot better than you give (Carson) credit for just because of the way things happen in practice,” Rivera said. “There’s a lot of little nuances that we see and that we look at and get to review. There are some inaccuracies, but it’s nothing that we are overly concerned about.” Wentz's start with Washington doesn't inspire much confidence for those hoping Terry McLaurin gets a QB upgrade in 2022.

Dude interviewing him was being an asshat. A buddy of mine in the media is unfortunately familiar with him after he was covering the Eagles in WASHINGTON LAST YEAR. He over heard him talking to someone making fun of the stands collapse in the Hurts stands incident that injured a few people. Won't even repeat what the guy apparently said but if it had been caught on video he sure as hell would've been fired with cause and probably not finding another media job again. My buddy mentioned something briefly to one of the WAS main beat guys who rolled his eyes and said he wasn't surprised and the dude has a history of unprofessional acts and comments.

Unfortunately the player involved in this case it's easier for fans to blame the player being sensitive then the asshat reporter which is why I believe the interviewer acted the way he did. I talked to my buddy who use to be on the Eagles staff and he said if that had happened with any player in Philly Doug Howie and Lurie would've done the same thing here. Got to protect your guys from entitled *** hat reporters. There's a line of respect for player reporter and reporter to player and that guy broke that trust/respect. A lot of Carson's teammates have apparently come up in Support of him on this issue too.

This situation is no different then if the Eagles threatened to Restrict Jeff McLane's accesses. And trust me if there's one guy who's access should be restricted it's McLane's

Fans don't realize but theres a line of respect/trust players and reporters have. This clown broke it. I don't blame how Washington Org reacted to this and actually surprised they handled this well given their lack of accountability on some stuff lately. This is a team defending their player from an unprofessional media member and I'd hope all 31 other teams would do the same in this situation. The problem here is it's always with a player who's unfair or not gained a reputation of thin skin.

I won't go over everything again but I'll just say 98% of the stuff you hear negatively on Wentz is BS. Like I've said I've had several sources close to Wentz in his time in Philly. I know one of the big media guys who's yet to really report anything negative on the guy other then people making a story he reported on more then it was. A former Coaching staff member the entire time he was there as well as Jason Kelce's Father In Law. Heard the same things on Wentz from each person. Nothing terrible. I'll take their word over guys who don't have as much access to the team.

Only thing Ive heard some were upset on is he's a fake Christian in he's a believer but does a lot of charity work and stuff like that such as Jesus Stickers and stuff on car to make him look a bit better. I don't have a huge problem with that as the guy has never tried to push his faith on people. I think the ultimate problem here is a lot of media in football want players to act a certain way and when they see a guy who looks soft they immediately see an easy target and make up a ton of BS on them.

What I really think happened was Carson got hurt and mentally couldn't take not being out there. I read an article about Lane Johnson who's had a lot of Mental issues since becoming an Eagle and had a breakdown last season that a Eagles main security member had to go to his home in Oklahoma and get him.Lane mentioned how not being able to play broke him mentally. I think people need to really be more open on players mental state. A lot of guys hide stuff because they think if they open up they become easier targets. It's why I'm so Happy that Lane Johnson and Brandon Brooks both have opened up on their issues during their playing career.

If I'm right on Carson here, there's a lot of people out there that are gonna look like absolute Jackasses and ignorant clowns. Being someone who's pretty close to something like this I have zero issue handing out recipes to certain people or reporters either. I don't take pride in it but I do want people held accountable at the same time.
