QB Carson Wentz, MIN (3 Viewers)

Commanders putting on a clinic for what not to do.

Most teams don't have good QB's. Fine. They are hard to find. In the meantime, you go with cheap vets, and keep taking shots on cheap rookies until you strike gold.

What you should never, ever do is trade draft capital for and give real money to a veteran that's not any good.

Genuine question.....how often does trading FOR an established QB work out? Teams so very rarely trade away great QB's.

Stafford worked out. Can't put a price on a ring, but the shine on that trade wears off by the week now.

Starting him tonight. Drafted Dak and Lance. Traded for Tua. Picked up Bridgewater.

So gross.

That's one of the most tragic catalog-of-woe QB stories i've ever heard my goodness
You're a look at an alternate timeline for me. Drafted Dak and Lance, and was offered a trade for Tua that just didn't materialize. Just barely avoided Bridgewater because Russell Wilson was dropped.

My condolences.

He fractured his ring finger when “shooting the middle finger” at the fans went off target. Like his throws.
Now they have an excuse to bench who has woefully continued being the worst QB in the league.

Rivera is a joke! How he keeps getting jobs is beyond me. His body of work is awful as a head coach.

He is not very smart either. The Commodes are a joke, so it is not difficult to understand why he is still there coaching

Commanders placed QB Carson Wentz (finger) on injured reserve.

Wentz is facing a 4-6 week timetable after undergoing surgery this week. Taylor Heinicke will start Sunday in Wentz's place. Wentz was struggling before going down, averaging 210 yards per game in the last four weeks while leading the NFL with 23 sacks. Owed a non-guaranteed $26 million this offseason, it's possible Wentz has played his final down for Washington.

Commanders coach Ron Rivera said Carson Wentz (finger) has not yet been cleared by the medical staff.

He's eligible to come off injured reserve having spent the mandatory four weeks out, but the team he left is in a much different place with Taylor Heinicke leading them to three wins in four games. We'll probably get another update on Wentz's status at some point this week, but the Commanders don't seem to be -- and probably shouldn't be -- in any rush to get him back to the starting role.

Makes no sense to bring him back as the starter:

Heinicke has the team winning, less turnovers, better decision making

If they play Wentz then they are going to probably have to give up a 2nd round pick to Indy as part of the deal, if he meets the requirements
which he will if they put him back at starter.

This is the Commodes and they hardly ever do the right thing

Carson Wentz (finger) was designated to return from injured reserve.

Wentz's practice window is officially open a month and a half after he injured his finger against the Bears on Thursday Night Football. Washington head coach Ron Rivera has committed to Taylor Heinicke as the team's starter with the Commanders now in the playoff hunt. Wentz won't see another snaps in 2022 unless Heinicke misses time.

Commanders activated QB Carson Wentz (finger) from injured reserve.

Wentz can now return to the Commanders lineup, although he will do so as Taylor Heinicke's backup. Wentz is unlikely to get meaningful playing time again unless Heinicke's play falls off down the stretch and the Commanders fall out of the playoff hunt. However, Wentz can be assumed to be a backup for the fantasy playoffs and has essentially no fantasy value, even in Superflex leagues.

Commanders will go 1-1 the rest of the season under Wentz, same as they would under Heinicke, proving nothing. One of these QB's is paid $28 million a year, one is not.

Commander general manager Martin Mayhew did not commit to bringing back Carson Wentz in 2023.

Mayhew and head coach Ron Rivera are slated to meet with the team's ownership on Monday to discuss their future -- or lack of a future -- with the organization. Washington missed the postseason with four straight losses to close the year, with Wentz proving disastrous in relief of Taylor Heinicke, who is also not good. Wentz, 30, will be a $26.1 million cap hit in 2023 if the Commanders keep him on the roster. With no dead cap hit, according to Spotrac, Wentz has little chance of returning to Washington. Sam Howell, who acquitted himself well in Week 18 against the Cowboys, could be in line to start for the Commanders in 2023.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler writes Carson Wentz and the Commanders "will probably part ways" this offseason.

The Commanders have pivoted to Sam Howell in a Davis Millsian sort of way this offseason, and Wentz can be cut for $26 million in cap space without a single dollar of dead money hitting Washington's cap. Fowler writes that Wentz "might not be ready to accept a backup role." It's hard to understand where he'd start in 2023 at the moment.

Man somebody either in here or the Colts thread was passionately arguing with me that this guy is actually good because of espn’s QBR or something after the 2021 season. I don’t care enough to try and find it but one of the oddest arguments I’ve ever seen here. This guy is an all-time loser QB.

Commanders released QB Carson Wentz.

Wentz's release saved the Commanders $26.2 million against the cap and was a foregone conclusion after Wentz washed out in his first and only season as Washington's starter. Wentz turned 30 in December and is unlikely to find a home as a presumed starter in 2023 after back-to-back one-year stints with the Colts and Commanders. Over the last two seasons, Wentz ranks 27th in EPA per play behind quarterbacks like Marcus Mariota (19th) and Jacoby Brissett (24th). Still, like those quarterbacks, it's possible that a team views Wentz as a capable bridge quarterback in 2023. More likely, Wentz will spend the season as a backup. Still, it's possible Wentz eventually gets another crack at a starting job if he lands behind an embattled starter or rehabs his value for a year as a backup in a strong offense.

This guy is an all-time loser QB.
It wasn’t me, but he certainly looked like the next Ben Roethlisberger shaking off would-be sacks & making something out of nothing time and time again before his injury.

There was a window when he looked, dare I say, great.
Probably the one person on the whole board I have muted who alleges to be a Die Hard Eagles fan, but sure as hell goes out of his way to prop up this guy while currently crapping on the guy who was runner up for MVP this last season.

With that said, Super Bowl 52 doesn't happen without his greatness during the 2017 season.

I wouldn't be surprised if Wentz just retires in all honesty. Doesn't seem the type that wants to fight for his job.

I can’t see Wentz getting another chance to start after two miserable failures.
I don’t see it either, but with the demand for starting QBs far outpacing the supply, I wouldn’t rule him out as a bridge starter for one of the second tier rookie QBs that aren’t quite ready yet.

I surely get the supply and demand thing, but I think there’s enough supply out there that I’ll stick with my thoughts.
I think bottom of the barrel guys like Baker, Darnold and Winston would draw more interest than Wentz. I mean, it was two teams that were and still are so desperate for a starting QB, that gave up assets for him, and he couldn’t make it work.

Same could probably be said for those guys in bold - guess it comes down to which of them teams fear the least and at what price.

Guy is done. It has always been between the ears IMO. He just doesn't have it. Maybe he had it before the injury in Philly the way RG3 had it before his injury. But I can't fathom anyone paying beyond the vet minimum to roster him.
Colt McCoy has managed to carve out a bottom of the barrel journeyman career, don't sell these guys short
;)

I can see you're not going to like when he signs with the Bucs
Bite your tongue! I would rather watch Trask try and fail than bringing in Wentz.
