QB Jalen Hurts, PHI (3 Viewers)

Flying Elvis said:
IDK, there are certainly many similarities but Lamar has a cannon for an arm. Being able to threaten the D with a deep game does wonders for running lanes and the underneath passing game.
I’m not saying Hurts will become Lamar. Just saying accuracy and comfort level can improve. Look at how Josh Allen was his first 2 years. He was a running joke. Hurts was accurate in college, it’s far too early to say he can’t play QB in the league.

I have Dak and Hurts in the same league and the disconnect between watching them play and how many fantasy points they score is hard to comprehend.
Have them both too. This was well put.

really can't complain about fantasy pts. per game from Hurts.  from what I've seen if they can run a bit more it would really set up play action.  also from what I've seen he has the makings to become a very good QB.  not a big Phili homer but been watching their games because I punted on QB this year & he is it in 3 out of 6 leagues.

Can't complain about the points but I just hope one of these days he doesn't put up 5-9 points in a game when the stakes are high.

This offensive scheme is terrible. Under center play action would be good, designed bootlegs, RPO but let sanders do it, but it's literally shotgun all game

doesn't come off his first read unless scrambling, often misses wide open WRs even with a clean pocket, poor choices on RPOs (keeps the ball almost every time), a seeming inability to play from under center, often fails to notice wide open receivers even when in the same general line of sight as his primary read!!!!!

He has athleticism, and he has a good work ethic, so there's a chance....but I wouldn't count on it. He has career backup written all over him. There are a lot of issues, and it's unreasonable to assume they can all be addressed.

I like it when he does that because I'm so invested in him but a few times I've thought to myself what a ball hog. I don't think I'd enjoy being his teammate in a game of hoops or  NBA 2k team up.

Jalen Hurts has scored 43.4 percent of his fantasy points in the fourth quarter this season.

Hurts has become this generation's Blake Bortles, producing in garbage time on the ground and through the air in what's likely a lost season for Nick Sirriani and the Eagles. Hurts' rushing production has kept him afloat for fantasy purposes even when he's struggled as a passer: Only Lamar Jackson has more rushing yards than Hurts through seven weeks. He's gotten it done for those who drafted him in the middle rounds, but his early-game struggles could threaten his playing time if Sirriani has had enough and is willing to switch to Joe Flacco. Some improved first half play from Hurts against Detroit in Week 8 could go a long way to securing his spot atop the Eagles' QB depth chart.

I will not accept this until Hurts starts throwing  like he's trying to throw a Honeybaked Ham down the field :porked: .

In his defense...since the team overall isn't very good...

AT dallas, vs KC, at carolina (their d is still pretty good), home for Tampa, at LV (they are a legit team without Gruden) is about as brutal as a schedule as it gets.

At detroit could be shoot-out city, but nothing is guaranteed

Weirdly, i think it goes very different if Sanders isn't hurt. They looked damn good on the first drive, and then Smith dropped like 3 passes in the first quarter, at least one of which killed a drive that was beginning to move.

Every time I see the Eagles run a little pre-snap motion, a good mesh concept or some slants, a real play action and not an RPO...Hurts looks pretty good to me. But they keep sticking him in shotgun with no threat of a run game even into pretty light boxes. To my semi-trained eyes it looks like pretty crappy playcalling most of the time, really.

NONE of those passes were on target. NONE

Yikes, it's like us Jalen Hurts owners are playing with smoke and mirrors. I don't see a sustainable formula and wonder about trading him for another wounded QB, like Mahomes ;)  and throw in a decent WR 2 or RB 2. In the league I got Hurts in the later rounds ALL the decent QB's were gone. I didn't really know what to expect other then he was the highest rated left by far.

What kind of commodity do we have here? What kind of commodity does the front office think they have here?

I'd look for Cousins on the waiver wire. I just picked him up for free since he was dropped, and he should be an adequate starter / backup for Hurts. I'm nervous about him being my only QB1

My sentiments as well. If I can't trade up for a Mahomes then what's next best for insurance? I see both Cousins and I also see Joe Burrow. Those two are similar in quality if you will. Cousins more stable and experienced. Burrow settling in well with weapons and upside. How do rank these three going forward? Hurts still a notch above fantasy wise QB # 7, Cousins and Burrow pretty close in the 10-14 range. May have to roster a second QB after all.

I get the concerns in real football, but in fantasy I don't see why there is a concern in having him as your QB1. Only thing I can see is if they bench him, but is Gardner Minshew really a better option?!? He is the 5th ranked QB in my league right now (albeit he doesn't have a bye week until week 14), he has arguably one of the easier QB schedules remaining (especially playoff time): Lions, Chargers, Broncos, Saints, Giants, Jets, Bye, Washington, Giants, Washington, Cowboys. He gets points rushing and throwing. If he can get the same point production the entire game that he does solely in the 4th he would be ranked 1st in fantasy leagues.

As long as he isn't benched, I don't have any concerns to roll him out there as my starter.

I'm just trying to procure a cheap Low end qb1 as a backup lol I'm just Nervous now of losing this qb edge I have and have no fallback

I really do not care what time of the game Hurts gets his points or if the Eagles win or lose. Just get points!

Matt Stafford was pretty much the same way in Detroit. Have a slow first half, team losing and gets a ton of garbage time points in second half.  Hurts seems to be the new king of garbage time points.

But garbage time points still count for FF so who cares when he gets them.

What do you think the gap between Hurts and Mahomes is right now going forward ROS? Mahomes a 2 point favorite for 10 weeks or 20 points total? More or Less lol Cynthia Freeland.

The Athletic's Bo Wulf said he "would be surprised at this point if we don’t see [Gardner] Minshew start some games this season."

The Eagles continue grappling for an offensive identity, starting a dual-threat quarterback for whom the coaching staff won't design unique game plans. Amid Philadelphia's weekly offensive struggles, Wulf said head coach Nick Sirriani "needs to back [Jalen] Hurts completely until he’s ready to make a move, even if he’s considering it behind the scenes. But if Hurts continues to regress, the Eagles will owe it to themselves to give Minshew a look. The reasons you outlined are true, although I do think there’s value in evaluating Minshew as the Eagles move into the offseason." Hurts has gotten by for fantasy purposes thanks to garbage time production -- both through the air and on the ground. His overall numbers leave quite a bit to be desired though. Hurts' 7.1 yards per attempt is 22nd among all QBs; his adjusted completion rate is 29th; and his completion rate while under pressure (31 percent) ranks 31st. Superflex managers should consider adding Minshew sooner rather than later.

Bo Wulf and Zach Berman, The Athletic
I'm underlining the bigger point of the article to me; the coaching staff is doing no favors play-calling for Hurts. At the same time, asking to give looks to Minishew is asking to get fired.

Imagine being a HC and not game-planning to the talents of the player that touches the ball on every offensive snap.

Is it just me or is Hurts doing pretty decent? 10 TD vs 4 picks. 245 ypg passing. 5 fumbles doesn't help his case. Fortunate to have lost only 1. Adding the rush threat on every play. Seems like offense at large is not even the right side of the team to be concerned about.

Fantasy decent, but he's accruing almost half of his statistics in the 4th quarter when the team is down,.

the team stinks but he isn't able to sustain long drives and keep the team in neutral situations, even though it can't be all on him. A LOT falls on the quarterback however- they are mostly the engine that determines pass/fail

Play-calling is also a huge issue, and offensive schemes. Hurts is getting a pretty ####ty raw deal IMO, but that part is not his fault, just his on-field play (whether you think he's fully at fault or the team around him and coaching is failing him.) there's a bit of both here.

Maybe he can ask for a trade if the team goes in another direction. He has a lot of ability and we've seen players turn it around (Lamar, Allen, maybe Lance someday)

I see. I haven't seen any of their games. But hey if "going for it" when you're down is working in the fourth quarter ... maybe they could try just going for it in general.

Let me say it again:

HE'S MISSING ROUTINE THROWS.....a lot of them.

HE STRUGGLES TO GET OFF HIS FIRST READ.

In redraft fantasy, there's zero reason to get off him...he's getting points. But chances of getting benched at some point are well over 0%. He's been terrible as an IRL QB

I think he's been good and bad.  I don't think the play calling has helped much.  I think they need to get him some more designed runs and more waggles where he has options to throw or run.

I know people think Hurts is the most inaccurate QB ever, but while definitely below average, according to stats he isn't truly awful.  According to this article he's better than Josh Allen, Tom Brady and Matthew Stafford.

On Target % - 74.8% (22nd)

Catchable % - 85.8% (16th)

https://theathletic.com/2907060/2021/10/29/tom-brady-josh-allen-among-qbs-getting-significant-help-from-receivers-justin-herbert-could-use-more/

stats seem to be from Sports Info Solutions, so I don't know how they are defining on target vs catchable, how much it depends on depth of target, etc.  (seems not to matter on depth of target at all)

ETA from the comments:

Apologies if this is a dumb question, but what is the difference between an “On Target” pass and a “Catchable” pass?

Larry Holder

Not a dumb question, because I wondered the difference. "On target" basically means in stride or right in the chest. "Catchable" gives more leeway.

Numbers in this situation can be misleading. For example: a good QB gets rid of the ball before getting hit. If he didn't find someone open he throws it away...."uncatchable". A bad QB takes a sack, or maybe flushes out early and never throws it at all. How about the team around him? With a clean pocket and a wide open WR EVERY ball should be catchable, and most should be on target. Moving from pressure to a well covered WR not every ball will be catchable, and on target becomes highly subjective.

Can this be broken down to clean pocket accuracy? Hurts will be bottom five if so. Far too many poor balls to wide open guys with little to no pressure

What’s funny is that teams know he and the team are not good that their game plan is to just get up 14-0 if they can, and just let the eagles kill the clock themselves with their short runs and throws lol. It’s worked almost every week

I'm not able to watch Philly games, thankfully programmers don't want to subject outsiders to that, but it seemed like the rushing TD's were a bit fluky at beginning of season. Don't bench him Philly management, give the guy a chance for a whole season.

This new running game plan torpedoing his value.

It is and it's specifically been an issue inside the 5/10 yard line. I'd be curious what led to such a shift but last two weeks vs first 7 it's taken huge turn in terms of Hurts running inside the 10.

First 7 games inside rushing attempts inside the 5/10 : Hurts led team with 5 runs inside of 5 yards out, which was half of team total. Inside the 10 Hurts led team with 11 out of 20 team attempts.

Weeks 8-9: Team had 10 attempts inside the 5 yard line and Hurts only had one of those 10. Inside the 10 yard line Hurts had 2 attempts out of a team total of 14.

So he's gone from 50/55% of the team attempts inside the 5/10 yard line to 10/14% the last two.

After rolling with Hurts every week so far, I think I'm going to start Wentz over him this week vs Jacksonville.

As I said this is due to playing the lions then the worst run defense in the league. Need to see how it works when they play a team who's grandma couldn't average 5ypc against them.

Same situation for me and same decision
I woke up after waivers hoping for the same scenario. Wentz is already on a team. Maybe I'll try a trade. Not feeling warm and fuzzy with Hurts. Probably will be rolling him out again with fingers crossed to hit that 20 point mark minimum.

Jalen Hurts has joined Kyler Murray, Lamar Jackson, and Robert Griffin III as the only quarterbacks with more than 2,000 passing yards, more than 500 rushing yards, and five rushing touchdowns in his team's first ten games.

Hurts through ten games has exceeded the expectations of his most ardent backers. In the Eagles' Week 10 win over Denver, Hurts threw for 178 yards and two touchdowns, tacking on 53 yards on the ground. He's now fantasy's QB3 behind Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen, and has a decent shot to finish the year as the top-scoring quarterback in fantasy this season. His 547 rushing yards through Week 10 ranks second only to Lamar Jackson, and his five rushing touchdowns are tied for the most among QBs. Hurts is a prime example of the power of fantasy football's Konami Code. He'll once again be an elite option in Week 11 against the Saints.
