QB Josh Allen, BUF (1 Viewer)

Honest question: when's the last time the MVP came from a wildcard team? ADP maybe? I know it's simplistic and unfair to count wins and losses solely on a QB but those voters do it every year. Those 5 losses for BAL means LJax has no shot this year in the slightest IMO.

My son and I are playing Allen in 4 of 5 semi final games...hoping for a mortal game this weekend...not sure it's a realistic outcome.

Not sure how much the voters consider surrounding talent, but Lamar has Henry riding shotgun with him. Shouldn’t take away what Lamar has done, because Lamar also opens up holes for Henry, but Josh doesn’t exactly have a top tier RB, or top tier receivers for that matter.

curiously the NFL doesn’t judge MVP the way other North America team sports leagues do

almost exclusively given to one position, and not always the best player at that one position, but usually the most successful

broad sweeping statement with many exceptions, but the larger point remains - NFL MVP is different from other sports MVP choices

Baltimore isn't going to be a WC team

Allen carries far more than Lamar does let's be honest.

When I look at his surrounding cast in comparison plus his inspired performances vs top teams like KC and Det, I see Josh earning the league MVP title. I gave Barkley the nod before but these last 4 weeks Josh has been on a mission.

It is an award about stats and team record. If there are no big surprises over the next two weeks then Lamar will win it.

Derrick Henry is the MVP. Before he came along Jackson was a good passer, or even great.

With him on the team changing the way you have to defend Baltimore, Jackson puts up passing stats unlike anything he has ever done before.

He won’t win, because of QB bias, but voters need to ask WHY is Jackson putting up these stats. It is because the MVP forces defenses to play them different. They talk about it on every broadcast of a Ravens game.

Most total TDs in first 8 NFL seasons

Allen 262*
Mahomes 259
Manning 253

*Allen has only played seven seasons.

How many has Mahomes played?
Eight

No he played 1 game as a rookie
Not sure what point you are making?

That Mahomes has played two more games than Allen, was drafted on to a multiple division winner with HOF offensive coach, TE and WR?

That he was the son of a professional athlete who is still with the personal trainer he has had since he was 9 years old, and got to learn in the NFL for almost a season before he had to play?

While Allen had already played two seasons before he learned he had to redo his entire throwing motion after working with Palmer due to his lack of high level coaching early in his career?

Yet Mahomes still has less TDs than Allen despite more games played?

I agree.

Just that Mahomes has also played only 7 seasons and they both have more tds even beyond anyone else playing 8 seasons.

Relax, man. Nobody is saying that Mahomes sucks. He's very good.

I’m very relaxed. Seems like people are getting upset with me for saying they’ve both played 7 seasons.

I get @IHEARTFF ’s point here. He’s simply saying that stating their # of seasons in the league implies that Allen did this in 17 few starts than Mahomes, when that’s not the case.

Josh Allen generated +20.5 total EPA in the Bills' Wild Card win over the Broncos, his 3rd game with 20+ EPA in his postseason career.

Allen completed all four of his deep passes for 139 yards & 2 TDs. He now leads all QBs with 23 completions and 791 yards on passes of 20+ air yards in the postseason since entering the league in 2018.

Mack Hollins had just 0.5 yards of separation from Trent McDuffie when the pass arrived.

Josh Allen's 517 passing yards when targeting a receiver in a tight window (less than one yard of separation) are the most in the NFL this season, including playoffs.

Feel bad for the guy. While he didn't have his strongest game, have to give the Chiefs defense for not allowing him to get comfortable back there.

And not his fault that the coaches kept using him as a batter ram to minimal success. While it's almost always worked in the past, that's where coaching/play calling has to come into effect when they realize the defense is sniffing out the QB sneaks and has the personnel to stop it. Even when the sneak was successful last night, it wasn't easy.

I really do like Josh Allen and would love for him to get over the proverbial hump of the Chiefs. Yes, you can point to a couple of questionable calls that went against the Bills.

But I can't leave here without saying that Mahomes was the better QB yesterday. He invariably seems to have the ability to make the play more often than not when it's needed most. Yes, Dalton Kincaid is this weeks Mark Andrews, but I do feel like Allen didn't play his best game (of the year) yesterday and Mahomes might have.

And this is why Josh Allen can’t win the big game. He needs more receivers who can create separation. Mack Hollins? Amari Cooper (who has looked like a corpse)? Keon Coleman???

Agree. Also perplexed by the lack of targets for Shakir. Their best WR by far IMO and they should be giving him double digit targets weekly. Had 7 targets Sunday with 6 catches. Kincaid, Coleman and Samuel had 11 targets combined with 4 catches. I understand there are several factors that go into this, but targeting your best receiver more seems a smart thing in the biggest game of the year.

Josh Allen’s Career Playoff Resume:

➖1st ALL TIME in Total Yards Per Game (309.8)
➖1st ALL TIME in TD’s Per Game (2.46)
➖1st ALL TIME in TD to Turnover Ratio (5.3:1)

Between the Stefon Diggs Drop, the Chiefs 13 Second Comeback, the Tyler Bass 44 Yard Missed FG, and the Dalton Kincaid Drop.. Josh Allen just can’t catch a break man.

Josh Allen’s 7-6 Playoff Record is wildly misleading, he’s consistently delivering when it matters most.

He's the 2024 Burrow of playoff games.

Interesting stats. If he never winds up getting past Mahomes and into the Super Bowl, unfortunately part of his legacy will be the perception that he could never win the big one - which we know isn't really true, just that he bad a buzzsaw year after year across the field. Not unlike the Bills four straight Super Bowl appearances in the '90s - they only choked away one (Giants), but they just had drew some NFC behemoths year after year .

To be fair, Allen’s stats are inflated because of the elimination of the bye for the 2 seed.

Four of five years they should have had a bye, he feasted on a seven seed that shouldn’t even be in the playoffs.

Unfortunately, the Bills ended up beat up in these games and might have pulled out a win in one of these ultra close matchups if they had the prior week off.

The one seed it too much of an advantage. They should change to a pick: you get the bye or the first seed. If you take the bye you end up as the 2 after round one (assuming the 2 wins and they get the one but have to play one more game)

The 33rd Team
MVP Josh Allen really set 3 NFL records in 3 straight weeks this season

Week 13: First QB in the Super Bowl era with a Pass, Rush & Rec TD in a game

Week 14: First player with 3+ pass TD & 3+ rush TD in regular season game

Week 15: First player with 2+ pass TD & 2+ rush TD in consecutive games

Glad to see that voters got it right this year. Lamar had an awesome year, but Josh was the definition of most valuable player this season.
Yeah, this is a year where if people can’t understand the different between MVP and 1st team all pro……then I don’t think it’s possible to explain to them.
