Certainly the popular narrative on social media, and in many of the posts in this topic.

I wouldn't be surprised if we hear rumors that they were offered like a 4th or maybe a 3rd weeks ago. The problem is they felt he was worth a 1st round pick in return. So they waited for that. And they waited. Then they watched QBs sign. They waited. Theeeeeen they realized maybe his value isn't as high as they thought. By then it was can we get a 6th? Ha ha

I could see a scenario where the Steelers are a playoff team this year with either Russ or Fields. I don’t see that as a Longshot.

Defense plays in the NFL, even in the modern game.

Sorry if this was already mentioned but Fields has been on record as saying he models his game after Wilson. So he's problaby up for it and I think Wilson would be ok with it as well.

But one thing to keep in mind is that Wilson looks like the odds on starter right now and as such I don't think the Steelers want to put Wilson in limbo. In other words they don't want to likely rush to extend Fields, while indicating to Russ they just intend to suck a year out of him for $1.2m while he grooms his eventual replacement and gets kicked to the curb. Will be interesting to see how they handle the contracts of both of them, requires a bit of delicacy.

Kinda. Timing is everything. They needed to strike before all the free agent QBs signed to leverage the best they could. They obviously overvalued him. That's when u adjust a little. It was a unique situation because the entire world knew he was gonna get moved. Just played this poorly. Imo

Agree on bolded for multiple reasons:

-Wilson's physical skills have deteriorated. He definitely can't move like he used to and that was a huge part of his game. Also, his deep pass used to be a thing of beauty, but I didn't see that at all last year, although admittedly, I only saw a couple of his games in their entirety. No reason to watch them unless it was the only game on.

-Think Fields is just a better player with much more potential to be a true difference maker at this point.

-Wilson is just so friggin weird too, which makes him unlikable to a lot of his teammates. Seattle put up with it because he was playing at a high level but those days are gone. I mean a guy who gives himself the moniker of "Mr. Unlimited" has issues. I know players try to brand themselves, but that was off the charts idiotic.

Well. I for one don't think he is this awesome prospect.. The main point of conversation is that we have 32 NFL starting QBs on this planet. Is he good enough to be one of those 32 NFL starting QBs? I believe so. I look at the current 32 starting QBs and I see at least 5 id prefer Fields over. At least. That alone is worth more then a 6th round pick. Bears played this poorly.

Given the importance of the QB position, I'm really surprised at the low prices paid this week for former starting QBs like Fields, Howell, Pickett, etc. Some of these guys were first round picks who had some success on the field but apparently they've depreciated faster than a used Subaru. Are teams overvaluing unspent draft picks in the quest for a player's massive upside, or are they undervaluing young players with valuable NFL experience because that perceived upside has evaporated? Or are they right on the money in terms of these players' actual worth? I have no idea.
