QB Justin Fields, NYJ (2 Viewers)

Anybody have an opinion on how Khalil Herbert looked? Love him long term but it is crowded right now.
Yeah he looked good. I had him going higher in the draft (along with Kylin Hill) but it is crowded there. I don't like Cohen and I would be cutting him for Herbert. He should be the easy number 3 on gameday and they also had him return a kick or two. I forget if punt or kickoff or both. Not sure if he will be any good at it but if they want him to do it there is a good chance he is #3 on gamedays. When/if Cohen gets back I guess we will see what Nagy/Pace want to do.

He looks like a calmer, and more focused, young Cam Newton.  Big, athletic, smooth athlete.  Bears fans are stoked.

Likely more accurate. That was the book on Fields in college. Big question was decisions under pressure, but he may have Wilson-like escapability.

He’s up against the Bills next week. If he goes off again, even if not all the Bills starters, I see him earning the starting gig week 1 and his ADP will skyrocket.

The fact they signed Jason Peters tells me they intend to start Fields this year. They intend to compete to win. I am still in camp "let's put Dalton out there against the Rams in week 1" but I find it odd that Peters would want to come play unless it is a foregone conclusion that Fields will be the guy in 2021.

Just conjecture but I think that signing is huge from the standpoint of tipping their hand. I just don't see them doing that if the true intention is to go with Dalton through the season.

Fields playing in the 2nd half. It may be against second/third teamers, but he’s looking pretty good again. Hardly perfect, but the kid has got the goods.

He looked ok but the Chicago O-line is not great. That was mostly up against Buffalo’s 3rd and 4th string though. But there really is no good reason to just not name him the starter.

They've got the Rams week 1 and Browns week 3.  Do they start Dalton the 1st 3 games to let Fields avoid taking the pounding from Aaron Donald and Myles Garrett?

Just thinking outloud

Let Dalton go 12-27 for 135 yards, 0 and 2 at LAR week 1.  No reason to get Fields killed in a game you're not going to win either way.

Start Fields against Detroit week 2 and start feasting.

No doubt there have been worse uses of $10 million

Final preseason stats in 3 G:

• 30/49

• 276 pass yards

• 92 rush yards

• 3 TD

• 0 INT

• 96.98 passer rating

He definitely passed the eye test. Especially under pressure, he made good decisions,  either to run or extend the play and throw accurate passes downfield.

Based on preseason, if the draft were redone, I think SF chooses Fields instead of Lance.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Justin Fields is expected to see "increased snaps" in Week 2 against the Bengals.

Andy Dalton remains the starter but Rapoport added that Fields has wowed his coaches in practice and is coming along faster than the organization thought he would. Given the team's glowing opinion of Fields and Dalton's lackluster showing in Week 1, we appear to be about two quarters of middling Dalton throws away from seeing the rookie. The Bears' offense will undoubtedly take a step forward whenever Matt Nagy makes the switch. With Fields already scoring a rushing touchdown despite not starting Week 1, he'll be an obvious QB1 candidate as soon as he gets the nod.

sub 50% comp percentage. INT, I mean his your typical rookie. it's only going to get worse as a full time starter. it'll be 6-7 weeks before he turns the corner. I don't see the Cam comparisons at all. maybe a Cardale Jones comp or a D haskins comp. Cam had 'it' when he turned pro, Fields looks to me like he's your typical  mistake laden rookie. the bigger issue is that the Chi offense is putrid due to that dope Nagy calling plays.

This is a good reason to not just look at the box scores, I watched him play in awe, he had several drops from his receivers after hitting them in their hands on several big catches(including an Allen Robinson TD 3:26 on this vid-watching the game other views of the play showed Allen had this and dropped).

I'm more bullish and may start him over Ryan Tannenhill in a league. He's a fringe lowend QB1 or QB2. I expect after a week of prep with the ones he'll be good to go. Also Bears D was playing harder for Fields too. I think he has that Locker room hyped for the QB change.

How does Robinson drop a TD pass? One of the most sure- handed receivers out there.

I may offer him around, sell high in a redraft league.  I have little confidence this coaching staff can get the most out of him.

Justin Fields will start against the Browns in Week 3.

Andy Dalton is described as week-to-week with a left knee injury. The Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs reports that Nagy plans to return to Dalton as the starter when healthy (because of course he does). For as long as Dalton is out however, and perhaps for the rest of the season if he plays well enough, Fields is an exciting upside play. While he wasn't ultra-impressive filling in for Dalton in Week 2, Fields' rushing ability, accuracy and big arm give him a high fantasy ceiling on a weekly basis. He can be viewed as a low-end QB1 against the Browns this week.

put him in my lineup an hour ago, before the news broke (seemed inevitable)

first four weeks are gonna be really fun:

  • @ CLE
  • DET (aside - what’s the rookie record for TD passes, 5?)
  • @LV
  • GB

Matt Stafford threw 5 TDs versus the Browns the Sunday before Thanksgiving, 2009. That was the famous dislocated shoulder game.

Watching the highlights from week 2 and a couple of quick observations:

Throws are much more touch, not rifled. Looks like he's throwing a well placed ball that's very catchable.

His throwing motion is a little slow/ deliberate but not awful.

He holds on to the ball for too long but after watching Mac and Wilson all afternoon on Sunday, I think this is normal for rookies. Takes 'em all a little too long to get rid of the ball or be sure they're making the right decision.

Not as twitchy as Kyler or even Russ (IMO), not as much of a hoss like Cam, no where as fluid running as Lamar but just generally big enough and fast enough to probably be able to get a fair bit of yardage per game.

Given how much of distaste I'm developing for rostering Shanny's guys, I think he has to be bumped above Lance.

As a Bears fan, I don't want to like players from other NFC North teams too much. After that game I turned to my son and said it's going to be hard not to like that guy. 😂

ton of new Rams fans in the Mitten now

Justin Fields completed 6-of-20 passes for 68 yards, rushing three times for 12 yards in Chicago's 26-6 Week 3 loss to Cleveland.

Woof. Fields had no choice but to sit back and eat a franchise-record nine sacks from Cleveland's front-seven led by Myles Garrett's single-game record of 4.5. Chicago totaled 47 yards of offense on the afternoon, registering a 48-yard DPI as their longest 'gain' through the air, all the while losing 67 yards in sacks. Albeit an embarrassing performance from the organization as a whole, Detroit's defense is just around the corner to help lighten the mood in Week 4. Fields will rank as a terrific bounce-back QB2 in that matchup assuming Andy Dalton (knee) remains sidelined.

One net yard passing.

From Pro Football Reference: Justin Fields is the first quarterback to throw at least 20 pass attempts in a game and get sacked more times than he threw a completion since David Carr in 2002.

and it wasn't close, 6 completions 9 sacks

six (6!) first downs for the Bears

_______________

At home versus Detroit Lions

Or as I like to call it, QB Confidence Week

Expecting a 25 point fantasy game next week
