Day to Day is good news. 10 days gives him a great shot to play next week and maybe they can pull him at halftime vs the Jags.

I was thinking something like this (injury) was highly probable. The Chargers Chiefs were nailing him on just about every drop back. I don't get to watch as much football as I used to and my memory is (much) less than it used to be as well so I am probably off base here, but I sure thought there were a couple of hits on Herbert that I have seen draw flags in previous games since the league decided to better protect the qb. Am I remembering badly?

What was obvious to me was he had a rib injury, I had no idea if it was a fracture or the cartilage. Dr. Chao knew as soon as soon as the x-rays showed no fracture and was tweeting it last night that the xray would not show a fracture which meant it's the cartilage. Which again is more painful and slower to heal but if it was fracture he'd be out a few weeks, he can play with this.

Oh yea he misses and I think he'd probably grade himself at less then 99% accuracy to be honest, but not much less.

Saying all that I'm less interested in his diagnosis of the injuries as I am in the timelines he provides for when a player can return. He's been a tremendous resource in helping me manage expectations on most injuries. He's not 100% on that either and IMO tends to run overly optimistic but still think he's the best source I've ever encountered and it's all free. (as an example he's the main reason I did not think Akers or Robinson were done)

So great that he got Herbert's diagnosis down correctly last night but I'm more interested in what he says regarding when he thinks he can return to play and he thinks he won't miss a game. That's the info I need.

Interestingly, the Chargers opened as 10-point favorites over the Jaguars, but that line has come down to -5 for LA. The movement could be a sine that sharp money is betting against Herbert suiting up. Rapoport noted that the injury isn't considered long-term and is primarily a pain-tolerance issue for Herbert. The young quarterback suffered fractured rib cartilage after taking a shot to the chest versus the Chiefs in Week 2. He was at practice Friday but did not do any throwing. If he can't go, Chase Daniel will draw the start versus Jacksonville.

Unless the people placing these bets are insiders who know non-public information about the severity of the injury — and if that’s what’s happening, it would be a huge scandal — then Vegas is guessing just as much as we are

I don't think it's based on non-public information. It's based on observations from beat reporters that Herbert didn't throw today at practice and Chase Daniel got all the first-team reps.

I’d initially read 2-4 weeks for this sort of injury. One bad hit to that spot and could be significant. Seems medically irresponsible to start Herbert.
