QB Mason Rudolph, PIT (1 Viewer)

With Tua still out and Fields not starting I needed a QB2 in SF. I thought Mason was going to get the start but they dragged their feet so I had to start the Rattler, ugg. I think Mason will keep the job until the Titans are eliminated, the Titans invested too much to win now to go back to Levis.

Splitting the game with Levis.

Coach had a quote about him possibly being a bridge QB.
I'd guess that means they'll offer him to return and work with the new drafted QB in 2025.

He is fine as a backup. I've been saying this for a long time. Apparently coach agrees.

There's a lot of bad backups and a lot of inexperienced backups. As Jimmy Johnson thoroughly documented- knowledge on the practice field and QB room is very important. Even if ya don't like Mason you probably can see he'd provide that.

He was absurdly accurate in camp and that probably is a simple thing that helps for installing an offense and we probably never think of this but it's gotta be annoying to be teaching and some new guy messes up throws and ...there's probably a smidge a teenie bit of value in an accurate camp quarterback.

Idk re Seiman but he's been around the league a long while and keeps finding work without playing so I assume good practice and QB room stuff. Coach had said (after Malik) that he'd want a developmental QB as third string but I assume that'll be the highly drafted guy.

I'm still in disbelief that AJ McCarron is not a Titan so I'll add him to here as something. Maybe a lower level coach? Maybe third stringer? Coach absolutely loves the guy and he knows the offense and rocked in the UFL. During his "I'm not returning to the UFL" interview he mentioned several(not just one) discussions with the Bengals and Titans this year and how many friends he has and all. I still think he's an option to do something. Idk what but it fits better that he's involved with the Titans than that he's not.

Agree Rudolph is a top level backup, nothing great but can keep the ship afloat and give his team a decent chance, think back to some of the disasters some teams had this year when their starter went down and I'm sure those teams would have been happy to have him, so let's say Titans draft a QB in the first round, wonder what they do with Levis in that situation

So Callahan told Aditi about the Mason as bridge QB on the sideline.
Today he said everything needs to be evaluated.

I don't think he backtracked. They were losing and to say that then has weight.
I think someone reminded him Mason's not under contract and he's not supposed to discuss potential personnel moves (he almost never does) and...I think he just gave a company line today.

Levis is gone according to many reporters. A rumor that's highly common so not fact but has a lot of weight to it

Surely this impacts your fantasy team and DFS thoughts....
Callahan said if one of the QBs are playing very well then he won't take them out.

Bit of a qualifier to Rudolph Levis share

He's still fine. Not good, not great, fine.
Pittsburgh knew darn well what they were getting. This is my disconnect with a lot of writeups so far. He's more of a re-sign than a free agent and he's certainly not bringing any newness with him.

He's a sub-par NFL quarterback. He's serviceable as a #2, I suppose, at his price. I wouldn't want to depend on him for anything other than injury coverage (I actually wouldn't really even want him around if I were running a team because I think you can easily do better even as a 2, but that's neither here nor there).

Probably being generous.

He's been an UFA twice and best he's got is like $3M a year. To put in perspective that's 50% or less then the likes of Mariotta, Brissett, Zach Wilson and Stidham. He's a low end backup you hope you never have to use.

NFL QB room rankings: Where all 32 teams stand after OTA updates

31. Pittsburgh Steelers Projected Stater: Mason Rudolph

... We’re judging the Steelers quarterback room as it’s currently constructed, and right now it’s in bad shape.
... If Tomlin gets nine wins from Rudolph and Howard, he deserves a lifetime contract from the Rooney family.
----------------------------------------------------------
The outlandish takes on Mason Rudolph have gone far enough
... Rudolph’s 2023 end-of-season run with the black and gold. After Kenny Pickett was injured and eventually benched, Rudolph started the final three games of the season. During that span, his passer rating was 118, which was the best in the league at the time.
He threw for 719 yards, three TDs, and no interceptions in wins over the Cincinnati Bengals, Seattle Seahawks, and Baltimore Ravens, respectively, which ultimately led to an unlikely playoff berth.
