QB Match ups to Exploit/Avoid week 1 (1 Viewer)

Interesting read MOP.

You've got it completely backwards with Rivers and Grossman though. The SD defensive front 7 will put enough pressure on Grossman to make him screw up often. The Charger safties have really been focusing on playing the ball this year, and while that will hurt them against good QBs I think they'll have a few picks this week.

Rivers on the other hand is going to really step up this year. It all starts this Sunday. That offense is going to put big points on the board all season long.

Edit: That offense is going to put big points on the board all season long AFTER the Bears game.

Here's where I'm sitting at the moment for QB decisions ... I feel like none of my choices is a slam dunk ...

League #1: Starting V Young over R Grossman

* Not feeling too confident about either matchup this week, but I guess Grossman scares me more. I put Grossman's floor lower than VY's, and VY's ceiling higher than Grossman for this week's matchup. I'm hoping VY can will his team to win with 175/1/1 and 40/1 on the ground

League #2: Starting A Smith over J Delhomme (yeah, waited too long for a QB here ...)

* Gonna stick with the guy playing at home, on Monday night and with the better chance to get caught-up in a shoot-out. I'm looking for 250/1-2/1 from Smith.

League #3: Starting T Romo over B Rothliesburger

* Well, either DAL or PIT could end up just running the ball a ton vs. NYG or CLE, respectively, so I'm tempering my expectations for these guys -- maybe 220/1-2 for each? Glenn is now banged up for Romo ... the 'new' PIT offensive philosophy has yet to be seen ... hmmmm.

Would be interested in the thought process of any others facing the same decision!!

Well somewhat true. I'm only expecting 24 from them this Sunday, so that's not really big points.

Share with us the rest of your roster in league #1 if you would be so kind. League #2, i think you can flip a coin and probably get similar production out of either.

League #3 is probably set right as I want to see Big Ben do his thing for a week b4 I start plugging him in.

Hey MoP, great thread. Since I am playing you, who do you like of:

Favre

Eli

Joey H

Favre vs Eli is a tough one for me. Will probably lean Eli with all of the WR/RB injuries in Green Bay.

I think all 3 of them will disappoint you.Favre and Eli average about 1-1.5 TD over the past 2 seasons so flip a coin between the two of them. Eli might get some garbage time and maybe get a hook up against the Cowboys...Favre has a pretty suspect rush game behind him but he'll zip it 40 times if need be on Sunday.Somehow this just isn't right when the staff who is actually playing against me in the HyperActive Dynasty League is coming into my thread and seeking advice...Good luck JT...hey how did Deuce work out for you in the flex this week? :D

This is my dillemma as well, and I'm leaning towards Romo as well. I want to see Ben in action at least once before I put my eggs in that basket. I also see the DAL / NYG as a higher scoring game overall.

Great thread MOP. I am one of those owners with the Romo/Big Ben combo. Love Ben's passing schedule this year, very easy, but leaning towards Romo week 1.

I'm likely starting Schaub over Leinart AND Ahman Green over Portis/Betts.

You're pushing me closer to the edge, and Portis keeps pulling me back in.

Kitna or Eli?

I also have Roy Williams.

DET @ OAK

What worries me here is that Nnamdi Asomugha is one of the best cornerbacks in the league, and there is no way to know if he will be covering Williams or CJ2. I have to start Williams anyway, but I would prefer to hedge if I can.

NYG @ DAL

Dallas' starting CB Terence Newman is a game-time decision with a foot injury. He would be the one covering P. Burress. Without him, the Giants' passing attack could flourish.

Who do you like?

...

Rex Grossman: I am going to go on record now as saying Grossman has top10 potential in FF. Look at his situation! He has a stout defense to cover up his mistakes, a solid OL to pass protect, and a running game that is pretty iffy so Rex might be called upon to win some of these games. San Diego has a very suspect defense and while I own Grossman, and will likely be sitting him this week…I am seriously thinking about wheeling him out against those Bolts. When Grossman does well in his games, he usually does VERY WELL…he started only 8 games b4 last season. 260/1, 290/4, 230/2, 180/2, 250/3, 240/3, 200/2, 340/2…I know he has some awful games to but he showed me a lot of promise. He has a safety valve in Muhammed and Clark this week, Berrian and Mark Bradley for the deep stuff, and his RB out of the backfield…I think he can do just fine and surprise owners this weekend. He is my “Why did I leave him on my bench” play of the week.

...
I like Rex on Sunday alright as well. I think he'll end up with pretty good numbers, cuz he is going to have an abnormal amount of attempts. Thats what happens when you are down all game :homer:

 Cool, well I've slept on it and my opinion is still the same. I agree with you that NYG have a better chance of keeping up with the score than CLE does, so that should promote Romo passing a little later in the game than Roth might be. Good luck !

Sure thing MoP, and thanks for the input above ... always nice to get agreement from others on these things. Keep in mind this was the 1st year of a keep-6 player, 12-team league. All TDs 6pts, no PPR, 3pt bonuses at 100yds rush/rec and 300yds passing. Each week we start 1QB/2RB/3WR/1TE/1K/1DST. We can keep a maximum of 2 players at any given position on up to 3yr contracts. We drafted about 3 weeks ago, and I've know most of the owners for ~6years; most are relatively knowledgeable FF owners. This was most of our first experience doing any kind of a keeper league, and I was really happy with how this draft turned out....1.02 Steven Jackson

2.11 Adrian Peterson

3.02 Reggie Wayne

4.11 TJ Housh

5.02 Donald Driver

6.11 Vince Young

7.02 Ahman Green

8.11 Terry Glenn

9.02 Jason Witten

10.11 Rex Grossman

11.02 PITTSBURGH DST

12.11 Kevin Curtis

13.02 Leon Washington

14.11 Jerome Harrison

15.02 Jason Hanson

16.11 CINCINNATI DST

17.02 Jacoby Jones

I agree, but Cleveland is a tasty matchup. I'm starting him over VY, although VY's ceiling is higher. His floor is lower IMO. I doubt JAX will stop him all game, but INTs count against me, and I can see a few here.FWIW, I actually think Cleveland will surprise people and hang with Pittsburgh for the first half, maybe longer. Enough to keep Ben passing anyway.

Yeah, I definetely agree with you starting Rothlisberger over VY ... VY's variance for this week is prolly going to be pretty wide.

Hmm next week Kitna vs MIN (who I own but can be passed on) or Big Ben vs BUF. Could be another tough decision next week although Im trying to trade one this week for a WR.
