Quantity versus quality: household items (1 Viewer)

we have 6 brooms. i do all the cleaning. with wood floors i sweep a lot.

i can never find them. ever.

they show up in random places all over the house even though i always put them in the same place when i'm done.

this weekend my wife went looking for a broom for the first time in .... years? .... they were all in the garage. why? i have no idea. i didn't put them there.

starting to think she's not just having night terrors, but also sleepwalking a lot more than i realize.
Figure out a way to get her to sleepsweep.

This. I'm a pen snob. I've only been buying and writing with the uni ball™ VISION ELITE
Just found out Sharpie makes pens.  I bought a pack of their S Gel pens and won't use anything else anymore.  Can't stand the way ball point pens feel to write with, and most pens inconsistency in the ink is frustrating.

And all I do is make short notes to myself or a shopping list or something.  Not like I'm writing a book or anything.  However, I think if I had found Sharpie pens in college, I would be a happier person at this point in my life, having saved all of that frustration.

I'm a pen snob and a cheap SOB.

I use the Tul retractable gel pens.

Super-smooth and quick-drying plus refillable.

I buy the pens and the refills on Ebay or Amazon.

A pen is an every-day carry for me.

I've used one pen (plus refills) for over 2 years before.

I eventually wear out the pen itself.

1.0 mm bold point black ink for me.

When someone borrows the pen from me, they try to keep it.

I always get it back...

The more I think about this I may use a pen that I own less than 10 times in a year.

No checks, I use a laptop, iPad or phone for all work.  I make lists on those devices.  We stopped buying each other cards for the most part.  The vast majority of my pen usage is singing receipts and I use the pen of the business.

Used Dorco for years but recently switched to Solimo, the Amazon house brand.  The Dorco's were fine but the Solimo's are awesome.  I shave my entire orb, head and beard, and I use shaving oil.  Works great but tends to clog razors so frequent rinsing and tapping required.  The blades on the Solimo are just a bit wider so the tapping effort and frequency is reduced by roughly 80%. Wonderful.
First I heard of the AMZN brand for blades.  Says they fit other handles, cany anyone confirm?

These seem a little expensive now, but you can put a price watch and get a bucket of 72 for ~$15. Never have used the nail file on my actual nails but in my experience the nail file will open all but the most difficult boxes. The clippers themselves can be used in place of scissors to trim the odd thread off of clothing or remove tags and the like. Plus, maybe I'm persnickety but I hate the feeling of having trimmed my nails too short but at the same time I hate going out of the house with long fingernails so I trim them often. Have one in every room of the house, In the very deepest pocket of every suitcase, in the glove box of the cars, etc etc. Oh, and my wife loses these things like crazy. She doesn't even take them out of the house so I don't know what happens to them but at ~$0.25/each it's nowhere near worth the argument to figure out where they go.

Sometimes you can find these for under $20 and imo it's easily worth the money when you consider how often you use it and the fact it's a 60W charger instead of the 5W charger so many people are still using. It's always shocking to me when people have to go on an Easter egg hunt around their house before they leave the door because they have their wireless headphones, their smart watches, their tablets, their phones, etc plugged in different outlets around their house because god for bid you actually pay for a charger that's much better and more convenient than the "free" one that came in the box(or at least USED TO). I don't throw away those "free" chargers either, but they are relegated to the bottom pocket of each suitcase as a backup in case my main travel charger gets lost or forgotten or malfunctions. At this point most of my devices are capable of quick charging and that alone makes the investment worth white, even if you buy a couple of them. Feel like a Rockefeller, and charge your devices the way Richy Rich would and you'll never go back.

What about car floor mats? Do the cheaper ones from Wal-Mart/Autozone/Pep Boys/etc fit as well as (or close enough) the ones from the car manufacturer? Specifically interested in all-weather/rubber ones.

Pro tip:  Don't buy your wife/girlfriend a gift from the dollar store.  The phrase "You cheap ### jerk face" may result.
Grad students at my university have done a couple of projects with a local company that's active in the secondary market.  The dynamics are very interesting.  They buy stuff from a variety of sources - production overruns; overstock from stores; seasonal items; returned merchandise from stores (which does not just get put back on the shelves).  This company has a few of their own stores here in Chicago (Bargains in a Box) and they also sell a lot to the dollar stores.  The point is that the dollar stores are generally selling good stuff...it's just stuff that has come through that secondary market.  The response should be "you savvy shopper, you!"

Probably true, but just don't leave the store name anywhere with the gift. Sometimes the bag you put it in means a lot.

I use one of these on the dresser to charge everything and it works great for charging Apple Watch, 2 phones, Pocket Flashlight, Battery Packs, Weapon Light Batteries (18650), DJI Osmo Pocket, etc.  The issue is the USB outputs do not support fast charging for iOS/Android Devices.

For overnight charging that's fine, but I usually keep these 20W Anker USB-C chargers handy at key places around the house (office desk, bedside, etc) where I might want to keep the phone topped off during the day (iPhone battery does NOT last a full day for me as I'm a power user with 10-12 hours of screen time a day).

I'll add that the 60W Charging Bank Suggested by @BoltBacker is also fantastic for travel given it is about the size of a deck of cards. I usually throw it, plus a handful of 6"-12" long Lightning / USB-C / USB Micro charging cords in a Blantons pouch when I'm on the road. That, plus a Fast-charge capable USB-C battery pack with a 6" short cord for my phone makes for a great travel setup.

Scott 1000 TP. Lasts awhile and is less harsh on septic systems.

I don't want the fluffy cotton ball Charmin stuff that lasts two deuces per roll and feels like you're wiping your bum with a blanket.

I've mentioned this story somewhere in these threads: I was at a very nice/expensive hotel for a conference near D.C. a few years ago.  Rooms were very well appointed.  Except ..the TP was low quality, single ply stuff.  While out running one of the days, I grabbed some TP from a porta-potty not far from the hotel.  When I checked out of the hotel, I brought down the TPs and showed the manager (standing at the counter with his assistant and a couple other staff looking on).  I asked him if he could distinguish their TP from the porta-potty TP.  He guessed correctly, but it wasn't an easy call.

There's absolutely no functional purpose for single ply toilet paper… It's a product that shouldn't even exist.

I totally understand and agree with your point, HOWEVER, can’t you just take twice as much TP and fold it?  I’m 100% against rough TP but single ply that is soft is manageable although annoying.

Yes, you can trim those rubber ones to fit.  As long as you aren't looking for something fancy and just need something functional occasional they are fine.

Charmin extra strong...you only need a few squares so it lasts a while, plus it feels like wiping with a blanket. Why wouldn't you want that? (I can't speak to the septic ease)

I splurge here. Weather tech floor mats and seat covers right out of the gate. When they’re removed you essentially have a brand new interior

This was a huge topic of discussion among our friends and family and it was discovered that a lot of women prefer the single ply stuff because it doesn't stick to their womanly parts.

So I agree with you.
