Quarters (.25) bracket # 4:sporthenry hates money (1 Viewer)

This year feels really top-heavy to me too. LSU, UCLA, and Ole Miss, for example, straight-up suck and they're in. The top teams really get after it on defense this year, which makes it tough to pull the upset. Defense typically doesn't have an off night. That said, UK is deeply flawed offensively, IMO.

Finally, that UNI-Wyoming game is going to look like a 1941-style game. May not even be watchable. I love a healthy Wyoming against a lot of teams because of their pace and defense, but the committee matched them with another really slow, defensive team.

One thing I'm not sure I like about the format of these contests is the fact that I'm already finding myself pulling against all upsets unless I have the lower seeded team playing. Ordinarily I would be pulling for Northeastern even though I have ND winning in my brackets because I don't have ND going far at all, so that loss would hurt a lot of brackets more than mine. But not in this format. A Northeastern win means I lose 14/3 of the money I lose if ND wins.

It's only an extra $2.75 loss in the first round if a 14 upsets a 3 and you don't have that 14 seed. But when you do have those lower seeds, the money can add up. ($5.25 for 3 seed vs. $24.50 for 14 seed)

Yeah, but it's a cumulative effect -- you can only win if you acquire more points than your 7 unique opponents. If you get 14 (or 28 if that 14 wins in the second round), it starts to add-up against me.

Definitely, you are rooting for chalk outside of your picks.

I went 2-3 today

Lost with a 6th (SMU) & 9th seed (Purdue) in two heartbreakers & Hampton.

Won with a 5th (Arkansas) & 6th (Butler) in two close ones.

I went 3-1 with my loss coming against another of my teams. Not many points earned though -- 1, 2, and 6 seeds won. Quite a bit more risk/potential tomorrow.

It will be interesting to see how the close games play out. Some of those last minute swings (like Harvard) were at least worth $30, maybe more.

If Northern Iowa loses today I'm just going to post my full credit card information. It'll be easier that way I think. Holy ####.

Looks like UNI is safe, Trey. Wyoming doesn't have quite the intensity I expected out of them to say the least.

Rarely is there a must win on day 2 of the tourney... But this certainly was 1.

Thank god.
Wyoming went on really nice run for 4-5 minutes and got me hopeful, but their defensive intensity -- their hallmark all season -- was atrocious. Way too many good looks for UNI. Wyoming had a bunch of good looks too, but couldn't knock them down with any consistency. Really shocking how often both teams got good looks given the fact that they both have top-10 defenses. UNI was just better. As the French say, "such is life".

Just an FYI. I'll be out of the country until next Sunday so don't be alarmed if I don't check in on Monday after UNI and Gtown get eliminated. I've become pretty accustomed to paying out triple digits in quarters each year. It's kinda my thing.

IMO it was over for Maryland when their PG went down, still can't believe they didn't call a moving screen the second time he went down.
True, but they were turning the ball over at an alarming rate before he went down too. I get that WV runs an effective pressure defense, but damn. When someone is overplaying like that, there should be more than a few unimpeded trips to the rack with any type of game-planning and athleticism.

Top earners thus far:

Michigan St. $73.50

UCLA $57.75

Louisville $42.00

North Carolina St. $42.00

Wichita St. $36.75

Xavier $31.50

West Virginia $26.25

Utah $26.25

UAB $24.50

Georgia St. $24.50

Thank you God for all the chalk. Could have gotten really really ugly for me if it was a year like last year. Bullet dodged.

This is what I have:

I suppose the easiest way is to have Trey pay This_guy and Detroit Fan 365 pay sporthenry. I can jump on the grenade and pay out the differences so send me PMs with your PayPal.

The Google Docs has $12.50 for Penguin and -$5.50 for Orange. The other six match, I will double check when I get home. One game must be different. Won't change anything other than Orange sending a payment.Yes, please verify your payments have been received. I will be sending mine out tonight/tomorrow.

ETA: I think I put Wisconsin as the winner. :bag: Orange, please send $5.50 to sporthenry

Thanks for doing this Derp. I really enjoyed it. Would have enjoyed it more if Louisville could hit a FT at crunch time, but that's the beauty of the tournament.
