Here are the facts: :bag:

1. There are three games left in the season.

2. St. Louis is 1 game behind Atlanta for that Wild Card spot.

3. Philadelphia is playing the Atlanta Braves.

4. St. Louis is playing the Astro's.

5. Philadelphia will play the wild card team in the NLDS. :bag:

St. Louis is playing the Astro's. 5. Philadelphia will play the wild card team in the NLDS. So Philly can pretty much choose who they get in the NLDS. The only team that they had a loosing record to in the entire NL is the St. Louis Cardinals. So you would think ,at least I would, that they would prefer to play the Braves in the NLDS. So do they go out and not play so hard in these final three games and allow the Braves to win? Phillies Record:9-6 against the Braves3-6 against the Cardinals
The Phils and Braves can't meet in the NLDS, per MLB rules.

I don't think Chollie will sit his players; not after a 9 game losing streak. If they had performed pretty well during the past week or so....he might have. Now, he's all about getting his starters back into a grove.

As far as Philly's first round opponent goes....it'd probably be ARI (if the Braves get the WC) or the Cards (if the Cards get it).....to be honest....I don't think either are a walk. The Cards always seem to play them tough and while ARI should probably be "just happy to be there"....younger players can sometimes be "dumb enough" to not realize they shouldn't be winning....Plus...I think Kennedy and Hudson can hold the Philly lineup. Philly should win both, but I wouldn't be surprised to see either opponent take them 5 games.

Most of the Phillies "playoff" lineup is well rested at this point. Howard has barely played since clinching. Rollins didn't play from the Aug. 21-Sept 10. Pence was given a few days off to rest a knee he tweaked. Ibanez has been platooning with Mayberry for some time now so he's rested. Utley had a week off in early September for a concussion. Polanco's played his fewest games in 5 years. The Phils are well rested, or as rested as they've every been going into the playoffs.

really? I didn't know that... So, if the Braves got in, the #1 seed wouldn't play the #4? That doesn't seem fair to me. Why is that by the way?

I'd imagine it's to prevent 2 great regular season teams from the same division having to play each other in the first round of the playoffs.
