Raiders 2006. Ouch (1 Viewer)

Okay... that's one that was posted before the season actually started.... and only about Walsh, not Shell.
You know, I'm not a Raider fan, but you're really being annoying here. Provide some evidence for your position instead of nitpicking when people prove you wrong.

Wow... just having a little fun at the expense of some Raider fans. Where's the harm in that? Jeesh! They never shoulda canned Shell in the first place ... he was a pretty good head coach ...

As a big Raiders fan who's old enough to remember his tenure, he did a pretty good job. As an outsider, the only thing that really pissed some fans off about Shell was that he almost never seemed to get emotional enough. He seems to have a pretty steady temperament which I prefer. But others saw it as allowing his players to take advantage of his good nature.

This is what I really liked about the Shell signing. If nothing else, our offensive line play should and will be much improved. Grove and Gallery are going to have great 3rd years.

That looks like all that survived the last purge, but that's only from this forum. I can only imagine looking at the archives of a Raiders forum. That would have to be hysterical!

"I'm as happy as anyone can be. I always thought he was going to be a great head coach and that's never changed. He's back where he belongs and this is the right thing. He's a Raider and has always been a Raider. With Art, [Raiders Owner Al Davis] knows Art, he remembers when we drafted him, he remembers him as a player, an assistant coach and as a head coach. When Art walks in here, he knows what it is, he doesn't have to learn all the nuances, he'll learn the players, he'll learn the coaches and the football. Having been here, the two of them, that's why I think this will work." - JOHN MADDEN
"I am very excited - this stands for tradition, history and is what the Raiders are all about. This exemplifies our Commitment to Excellence. History will show that this is the correct move and the right move and we will be back where we are supposed to be." - GENE UPSHAW
"Art is a true Raider. He is a proven talent in terms of his coaching ability and I'm glad he has accepted this challenge. I can speak for his former teammates as well as Raider fans, that we will give him 100 percent support. He is the right guy for the job and personally I am very excited to see him have the opportunity once again." - RAYMOND CHESTER
"It is fantastic that Art Shell got the head coaching job. It is going to be difficult I think, but he is going to be really good. He is a man that people are going to listen to and he is going to demand his players listen to him. His assistant coaches are going to work with him because he is a prominent player, a Hall of Famer; he was a great offensive lineman." - JIM OTTO
"I think it's fantastic, congratulations to Art. He has an opportunity to come back and contribute to the history of the Raiders. He's always been a quiet leader. This is a great moment in Raiders history. We need to win." - MORRIS BRADSHAW
"I think it's a great thing for the Raiders because Art is a Raider and he knows what it means to be an Oakland Raider. You have to put the swagger back in Oakland and make people think about playing the Raiders in Oakland. You look at Art, he was a great player and has great work ethic." - JACK TATUM
"I think it's great. He brings instant credibility in the locker room and guys will listen to him because he's a Hall of Famer. I can remember watching those Raider teams when he was the coach and I'm excited to get back to that style of football." - KIRK MORRISON

You act like finding positive media about a recent hire on an organization's web site is unusual or some sort of huge discovery you have made? Are you kidding me?weak

Good job gathering those quotes. :lmao: Every one of those men played with or coached Shell. Did you really expect them to say "MAN... what is Al thinking with this hire?!?!?! Shell is a total moron. Oakland will be lucky to win three games..."

For your next project, see if you can dig up any stories of a cop shooting the crook instead of his partner.

Yeah, you guys are right. Your opinions are much more valid than those of Madden, Upshaw, Otto, and Tatum. My bad.

No, you need to go back and look at the thread. Lawfitz had given himself a chubby over Kiffin. I said I'm sure we could find people who were initially excited about the Shell hire also. I found people on this forum and elsewhere who back up my claim.

Arguing about the past proves nothing. RN, I and others where not excited by the Shell/Walsh hiring. That has been proven, big deal. Other posters where excited, that has been proven, big deal. Press release's and planned interviews show an organization was backing their new coach, absolutely amazing that you found that.

Back to the point, there is no comparison to last years regime and this years and that is a good thing, no matter how the haters try and spin it. No one is claiming a Super Bowl or even a playoff run this year. The supporters of Kiffin and the new regime Al has allowed to come in is exciting to a fan base that is tired of being a laughing stock of sports the past 4 years. This organization appears to be headed in the right direction from what has been seen so far, and that is all I care about. You can take the arguments about last years he said she said BS and go talk with a kid in middle school. The schtick is old.

Fair enough. Honestly, I wish you guys and your team well. My best friend is a HUGE Raiders fan, so this is all just good-natured ribbing. I like it when the AFC West teams do well. I think it's consistently the best division in football. I just don't want the other ones to do as well as my team.

Wow... you don't read very well. I said I was kidding much earlier. And what kind of exposing is going on anyway? I backed up my point with several pieces of evidence. When Black Hole offered up the olive branch, I took it.

Al Davis is stuck in the past and will stay there until he passes away. The only time he strayed from his normal way of operating was with Gruden and that worked out well for him,he then went back and tried to do things the way he always had before and he got rocked....now he is going back to the Gruden years with this Kiffin kid and he thinks that will be the way to get the RAIDERS back to the Superbowl , i say this is a great move by Al and i see nothing but positive momentum up to this point. We can only go up from here :football:

Even THIS guy likes Kiffin

Ross Maak: New coach might be best thing in Oakland

By Ross Maak, rossm@theunion.com

» More from Ross Maak

I've made no secret about my hatred for the Raiders.

Ever since they beat the Vikings in the Super Bowl, I've disliked them. When I moved to Colorado and got caught up in Broncomania, the feeling grew and festered.

It's been easy for me the last few years. The Raiders have worked hard to prove just how inept they are, culminating in last season's 2-14 season.

(Side note: I was at one of the two wins when the Raiders tallied 98 whole yards on offense compared to the Steelers' 300. How the Raiders won that one I'm still not sure. Oh yeah, Big Ben went colorblind.)

Anyway, the only challenge the Raiders presented me with recently was trying to keep my yap shut. It's not easy when Oakland is so horrible. Then, with the hiring of 31-year-old Lane Kiffin, I almost burst into song.

The youngest, most inexperienced coach in the NFL is their answer to turn around a 2-14 franchise? Al Davis must have finally lost his mind.

But wait. What is this on the horizon? Is it a bird? A plane? A new 6-foot, 5-inch, 260-pound savior of a quarterback who, it's rumored, can throw the ball 65 yards with one knee on the ground?

No. Not even that should be what has Raiders fans all fired up.

Instead, I'd submit to you that it's this 31-year-old, son-of-a-defensive-coordinator that should have the Black Hole thinking up new Halloween costumes to sport this season.

Why, you ask?

It was a small sports story that barely broke the surface of national news. Lane Kiffin was penalized by the National Football League Players' Union for violating practice standards.

In fact, the final week of the Raiders' offseason workout program was pulled by the union, saying Kiffin was working the players harder than he should have during simple offseason get-togethers.

What is this, football? Or is this a picnic?

According to a statement released by the Raiders, Kiffin said, "I was notified that the Players (Association) believes our total commitment to improving our football team has resulted in some violations of rules regarding practice standards. The union has complained about the high level of intensity, player aggressiveness and fast pace of our practices and as a result, has taken away the final week of our offseason program."

That's rich. A bunch of football players whined to their union reps that the young new coach was working them too hard. If I'm a Raiders' fan, I just jumped on the "Kiffin for President" bandwagon.

It's time to ride these overpaid whiners until they break or decide to play football. My money is on the offensive line. You remember, the one that gave up 72 sacks last season?

Holy cow that's a lot of sacks. They only played 16 games!

So, while I personally may not be all that excited about it, it looks as though Kiffin may just be one piece of a puzzle the Raiders need to turn the corner.

Of course, a 6-5, 260-pound quarterback that can throw 65 yards from one knee may not hurt, either.

:bag:
