First of all I am not a Raiders fan by any stretch but I am just throwing this out for discussion. Most would agree that the Raiders are probably looking at QB with the first pick, and I think most would agree it should be Russell. But let's look at this scenario. Minnesota would love to have Calvin Johnson, but he will definitely not be there at 1.7. Minnesota trades up to #1 with Oakland while giving Oakland their 1st and 2nd and next years 1st. Not sure how the points work out. I'll leave that to you mathmeticians. Minnesota takes CJ at #1. Oakland still needs their QB, and there are 5 teams in front of them. Well Detroit takes Thomas, Cleveland takes Peterson, TB might take a QB but it's doubtful, Arizona definitely doesn't go QB, and neither does Washington. Worst case scenario is that Oakland makes a great trade, picking up an extra 2nd and another '08 1st and at least 1 of the top tier QB's is still on the board at #7! I'd like to hear some opinions. Is this even conceivable?

It is possible, but I don't see Oakland selling the #1 overall that cheap and I don't see them moving that far down, unless they decide to go defense with the first pick (Free Safety or DT). There are too many teams that want a QB that have the ability to jump ahead of the 1.7 pick.

Good thought, but if the Vikings wanted CJ they could probably trade with the Browns at 1.3 and give up less. The Browns would still have a shot at Peterson at 1.7 or one of the top three DL (Anderson, Branch or Gaines). Trading for the 1.1 has ususally proven to be too pricey.

If Quinn is available at 1.06 - the Texans would be moving up to grab him knowing full well the Raiders would be selecting the available QB at their pick. If that trade were to happen between Oak and Min, the Raiders would not be able to draft a QB at 1.07.

If they think Quinn and Russell are equal and are not willing to shell out #1 money to either, they might very well make such a move.

Not a bad idea, but for some reason I don't see the Vikings moving and I think they will take the BPA on the defensive side of the ball.

Agreed. Oakland had their entire brass there today. Contrast that to Quinn's workout, where only two scouts were present. You know what? All of this pisses me off. When Oakland was on the clock at 1.07 last April, I was praying for either Leinart or Cutler. Huff will be a nice player, sure, but the situation was SCREAMING for a quarterback to be selected. So instead of grabbing your franchise QB in Leinart/Cutler last year and pairing him with Calvin Johnson for the next 8 years, we are now stuck drafting a QB who would have gone behind Young, Leinart and Cutler had they all been in the same draft -- AND we have to spend the 1.01 pick on Russell at that.

This sucks fat ones.

It's kind of a pointless exercise, but I find it hard to believe that Russell would be ranked below Cutler.

Obviously it's an opinion, but I see no way Russell isn't the 4th QB off the board if he came out last year.

Ding ding ding, give that man a ciiiiiigar !I was freaking out last year when they took Huff, made NO sense, but then again it is the Raiders and not much makes sense over there. Well except that Al Davis is insane ...Man it's painful being a Raiders fan at times ...

Don't worry about it. You'll probably be getting Aaron Rogers from the Packers for Moss and drafting the #1 player in the draft. WR

I'm not a big fan of Russell, but 2007 Russell would have been at worst, the 2nd QB off the board last year IMO.
