Raiders sign free agent LB Frantz Joseph (1 Viewer)

I still can't believe he went undrafted!

Would be good to hear Jene's take on where he thinks Joseph fits into the scheme of things in Oakland.

He's a thumper with better playing speed than straight line speed and the Raiders haven't had a solid SLB in awhile. He could get nice playing time in Oakland, but there won't be a three down role for him even if he cracks the lineup.

I doubt he'll be lined up at SLB to start. The Radiers currently have Ricky Brown and Sam Williams there, and Cable said two of the draftees, Slade Norris and Stryker Sulak will be looked at as SLB/DE hybrids (1st and 2nd standing up, and pass rush on 3rd). Now, none of those players are particularly sexy, but there's more competition outside than inside, where Morrison's backup, Isaiah Ekejiuba, is strictly a special teams guy. My guess is that Frantz will be pencilled in as the 3rd MLB, and if he shows he can contribute on ST, he has a decent shot to make the club. One more thing: Kirk Morrison's contract is up after this year. He's been a great soldier, and appears to love being in Oakland (grew up a Raider fan), but if the Raiders decide he isn't taking on blocks well enough, maybe they decide to let him go. Long shot, but there is a narrow little alley by which Jospeh could make some noise.

Raiders cut Joseph...

RAIDERS WAIVE LB FRANTZ JOSEPH

He's not one that is going to impress in shorts, surprised he didn't get an opportunity with pads. There were other teams interested in him before he signed with Oakland, I believe Baltimore and Denevr were two. He may be best suited as an ILB in a 34.
