We've got 3 going this weekend!

Good luck on the Tri's @JAA and @-OZ-!!

And good luck on the 10K @OrganizedChaos .  Hope some fresh legs let you get a nice PR and something to build on for the next one.  Can't wait to see how it goes.  You running with a dog or solo?
Thanks!  :)  Hoping to get a good jump on some fall races. Running solo in this one. My dogs would be an absolute disaster here. Will enjoy spending time with other                                 dogs before and after the race though.

Knocked out the hill workout last night, but for some reason I don't feel super satisfied with it.  Again, it was 11 continuous sets of 60-second hill, 15-sec jog, 30-sec stride, recovery jog back down the hill.  I averaged a respectable 6:10 pace on the hills, but I was pretty gassed when I got to the top and couldn't muster much speed for the strides (6:38 average pace).  Total with warm-up and cool-down was 9.25 miles.

15-mile long run is next, including 60-second "speed-ups" to 6:20-6:30 pace after miles #2-14.  So I'll run the mile at my normal 7:30-8:00 pace, and then after each mile (except the first and last) I'll spend a minute working my way down to 6:20-6:30 pace before settling back into my normal pace for the rest of the mile.

I'm kinda sorta debating doing this tonight instead of waiting until tomorrow morning.  Forecast for 5pm is 64° with a dew point of 59°.  Tomorrow morning isn't much different though (63/63), so we'll see how I feel...

I looked at that workout last night.  Impressive even though you may not seem to think so.  I think I struggle with hills more than others because of my size (6'2, 200) so, if that's the case, since you're in the same boat, it makes it that much more impressive to me.

Thanks man.  Didn't realize that you and I are basically the same size (6'4"/200 for me).  Definitely requires more energy for us to get up hills....it's physics!

Dear PH forum,

I've heard the many stories of other men that have had nipple sensitivity and chafing, but I never thought it would happen to me.  One early morning in August, that all changed....

Son of a b!  Hopefully it's just due to one very expendable shirt.

Yep.  Which is also why I think I love downhills so much more.  I showed my wife a route with a nice downhill and at the end she wasn't that impressed and said it didn't help her at all.  I'm like "what?  It was glorious and effortless".  When I'm trudging up the hill and I start to think of @Juxtatarot and his 134 lb frame when wet, the anger starts to build inside, which at least helps me get up a bit faster, so.....

Here you go

I get them from work but anything over 6 miles and I definitely need to put a pair of those on.

FWIW, I'm around 138 now.

First tri in two years. Last one was this same race, I finished first in the military division. Now I'm no longer eligible for the military group and there are some beasts in the AG/Masters. So the good part is I won't have to wait around for the awards.  Just going to have some fun with it and hope it helps motivate me for next season.  Trying to decide if I want to do a 70.3 next spring but won't travel too far.

Thanks.

And just like that, it's on and I'm in:

Goose pond island 70.3 :excited:  May 26 2019.

That’s the hardest part of the workout, IMO. It’s so hard to settle back into the easier pace.

@gruecd  Does your coach want you to have a normal 7:30-8:00 pace or is that your choice?
That's what he told me to do for this specific workout, but it's different for every one.  Looking ahead to my 20-miler on 9/8, I do miles 1-5 at 8+, miles 6-10 in the 7:40s, miles 11-15 in the 7:20s, and miles 16-20 in the low 7:00s.

For sure.  I think the tendency is to wanna either keep pushing, or else completely go the other direction and start jogging.  Usually for this kind of workout I end up going from fast to slow to normal, and it all kind of averages out.

My grandson has a habit of pointing with his middle finger when using his right hand.  We were having dinner with the family a couple months ago, and he innocently put his hand down in his lap and pulled it back up - middle finger pointing - as he looked directly at grandma.  Classic.

Best wishes to this weekend's racers!!!

I'm signed up for the Itasca one and running with my brother and other family. I can't do 9/15 but can do 9/22
@Juxtatarot ...let's do this with Brony.  The 9/15 race near my house has just 200 runners.  Top times were 18:41 (female) and 19:21 (male).  The CARA race on 9/8 will both of us some good competition.  It'll also give us a chance to see if the rest of the Bronys are as ruggedly handsome as our guy.

Yes!! Beer and brats for everyone!

Some recent playlist additions.  You guys might find them a little quirky, but here goes:

Papa Americano -- fun little song for a little pep in your step

Natural -- Imagine Dragons -- ID keep making my playlist.  Love their stuff and enjoy running to it

Then this last one you guys are probably going to laugh, but....I listen to different types of music and I'll listen to big band stuff sometimes.  The other day I was running up a hill and this Glenn Miller song came on and it was amazing.  It made me want to run with a really light step and made the hills easy.

I asked the lady working check in if the we were allowed to run and bike topless (it's not in the race rules, other events require shirts). She said we had to wear a shirt, then an older dude who seemed to be in charge corrected her, he said he always goes without and it's permitted.

So I think I'm going topless tomorrow.

Interesting ride today...

Was going through a forest that I've gone through many times on well established path around noon. I see bikers, walkers every quarter to half mile. Quiet, but not empty. In the thick of the forest, a big buck was right in the middle of the path. It leaped into forest as I got within 50 feet. I have seen deer before but this was a big sucker.

Not half mile later, I see a couple just off the path chilling. As I got closer, I realized that she was giving him oral not ten feet from the path. I played it like Seinfeld - it's like looking at the sun; you don't stare. She was clothed in sporty outfit.  Another 100 yards down the path, a one armed man was walking his dog towards the couple.

No pics of either sighting and sadly I had nothing funny chambered to yell out.

Somewhere during the early part of your ride did you say, "hey, that mushroom over there in the forest looks good enough to eat"?

I may have just delivered a small child.

if my poo ability is any indication of my race today im going to qualify for Kona

:nochance:

Wow. Number 2 :pun: in the books. I may set a record here. Something tells me I’m just getting started. :preracewinning:

I LOVE long runs.

Ok, just kidding, but today was far better than last week. I made sure I ate whatever I wanted yesterday without trying to limit too much and plenty of carbs. I also drank a good bit including a few glasses of water in the evening and before bed. The tank was nice and full.

Weighed in this morning at 202 before heading out. Had to get out a little earlier than I wanted since my wife had to go in for work so I was out the door by 7. The weather was probably the worst I remember in terms of humidity. Stupid dew point of 76 and it felt like a sauna. Truly awful. It was already 80 but at least it was cloudy which was the only good thing. I was sopping wet less than a half mile in.

That said, after about a mile, I felt pretty good. The hydration I think I made a HUGE difference. My HR stayed low for a good bit longer than usual, especially considering the conditions. And I felt much, much better than last week. I carried my belt with two 6oz bottles and got both in by the 4th or 5th mile. I stopped at one point and refilled both and drank while I stopped (I think like 7 miles in). With all this I felt pretty fresh for most of the run. I picked it up a bit for the last 3 miles but didn't want to overdo it so not quite at pace (especially since there's some up and downs over that stretch with hills).

I also just kept my outlook on the run simple and made it as enjoyable as possible. I feel good now and glad I got it done. The extra prep and work going into it paid off. I still lost like 5 lbs at the end of the run (197 when I got home) when with over 30 oz of water consumed while running. Took about an hour to finally cool off, stop sweating, and get back to normal, but overall this was 100x better than last week.

Can't wait to see how our racers did today. Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

That beats my run today.  Only interesting thing I saw was a guy on one of these.

And, by the way, maybe that couple wanted you to look.

Completely forgot. On my loop around the park, I ran by a woman that was running and juggling 3 balls as she ran. And she was running at a decent clip (easily 9 min pace, if I had to guess). At the end of my loop around the park I passed her again. So she was running at least 5-6 miles while juggling and she looked completely fresh while doing so.

Not sure what that's about but it was impressive.

What about this guy?

There's gotta be a joke in there somewhere.

Why was the one-armed guy so happy? He almost saw nuts under a buck for the first time in a long time.

Well I have to admit the race today was a mixed bag. I ran a whole lot slower than I planned. However, I had a great time and I'll do it again next year. This was my first time doing a trail run and running thru loose sand and dirt is a whole lot harder than running on pavement. It was also a lot hillier than I have ever run before (for me  :)  - I realize this is anthills for some of you).  That being said loved being around the dogs (although going around some into some thickets was not fun - going to get some new socks - not worth trying to get the stickers out of the current ones). All in all a blast though. I'll probably do a road race in late September which is more my style. Sorry you missed 3rd in your age group by so little Oz. Great accomplishment though.

I can’t imagine how many times I’d fall trail running with dogs around.

Glad you a good experience and will be back. Enjoy the rest of the day!
