Randall Cobb (1 Viewer)

Coach Mike McCarthy revealed that he watched every 2011 snap of Saints RB Darren Sproles for ideas on designing plays for Randall Cobb.

McCarthy put those plays into heavy use in Week 1, but Cobb's role has dwindled in two games since. We still believe Cobb's talent and versatility is well worth a roster spot in 12-team leagues. His role could be expanded with the offense struggling to move the ball consistently. Sep. 27 - 5:17 pm et

Cobb was my #1 wanted player to add to my dynasty team when this year started because I saw a Percy Harvin/Welker type role... But seeing now, a Darren Sproles type role is IMO better, because there is so many mouths to feed in that WR core of the Packers.

Thoughts?

It's one thing to study, it's another to actually use. I also was interested in Cobb for this season, but right now he isn't hitting the carries number or the targets number to generate the same success that Sproles had last year.

Agreed. I still like Cobb a lot in dynasty, but he's running out of time to show me something in redraft.

I own Cobb in a dynasty league and all this teasing is beginning to wear on my nerves. I will believe this "usage" when I see it. Untill then he is, as they say, what he is.

I've traded him away in all of my dynasty leagues, which means he'll probably blow up this week for 100+ yards and 2 scores.

Really though, my problem with Cobb is that he obviously has a lot of NFL talent, but doesn't have an obvious role that will lead to strong production down the line. People talk about him replacing Jennings or Jones, but the Packers really haven't been using him much as an outside WR. He seems like a gadget/slot guy who doesn't get the ball enough to hold any real value.

I know he has similar dimensions to Harvin on paper, but I've never fully bought the comparison, as Harvin has always seemed stronger and a little more explosive. Cobb doesn't remind me at all of Sproles, a pure RB who is a lot more compact and powerful.

He's a good player and he'll probably emerge in some capacity down the road, but for the time being it just seems like the Packers have no plans to really take advantage of what he can do.

I have Cobb as my WR3 in two Return Yardage leagues. The past two weeks have been underwhelming to say the least, especially after he got us all excited in week one. I'm going to stay patient with Cobb, but if I'm not sure I would be so patient if I owned him in a league that doesn't reward Return Yards. A big factor to Cobb's success will be correlated with the GB running game. Once GB realized that they could run the ball against SEA, Cobb was stuck on the sidelines. It's going to take a team to take away the threat of a running game for Cobb to be relevant, a la SF game.

ETA: BTW, the Saints have allowed 645 rushing yards so far, so I'd expect Benson to see a lot of action, especially if Rodgers continues to struggle- which could mean another "meh" day for THE TOUCHDOWN ROBBER

However, it would only take one rush attempt for Cobb to scamper for an 80-yard score against this woeful Saints defense. I'd almost be shocked if he doesn't have a big play on Sunday.
