Former NFL star Randall Cunningham’s 2-year-old son was found drowned in a backyard hot tub at his Las Vegas home, the Las Vegas Review Journal reported late Tuesday.

The child was discovered at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday by a woman and several children at Cunningham’s house.

The woman removed the boy from the water and attempted to perform CPR, Las Vegas police Lt. Dennis Flynn said.

The death was being investigated by abuse and neglect detectives, but Flynn said the drowning appeared to be an accident.

Cunningham, 47, played for the Philadelphia Eagles and the Minnesota Vikings before retiring in 2002.

Sad news, I hope someone was watching the 2 year old while in the hot tub.

That's just heart-breaking. :goodposting:

I can't fathom what they're going through. The blame, the anger, the denial, the sadness. Wow, I don't know what I would do in that circumstance.

Per PFT:

The 2-year-old son of former NFL quarterback Randall Cunningham has died in an apparent accidental drowning in the hot tub at the family home in Las Vegas.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that Christian Cunningham, who would have turned 3 in December, died after being found floating in the backyard hot tub.

Randall Cunningham is pastor of Remnant Ministries and performs baptisms in the hot tub at his home, the paper reports. He was not home at the time.

According to the report, a woman at Cunningham's house was with several children when she found Christian at about 4:30 p.m. The woman pulled Christian out and began performing CPR until paramedics arrived, and he was taken to St. Rose Dominican Hospital, where he died.

Cunningham went to UNLV and played 16 seasons in the NFL, making four Pro Bowls. He retired following the 2001 season.
This has nothing to do with the death of his son which it is a tragedy for the family and the child. However, on a separate note, who the heck performs baptisms in a hot tub? That's just plain weird. I know there are some religions that require the whole child to be submerged (most do not, instead just a touch of the water); however, I'm not sure that chlorinated dirty hot tub water would be my choice to honor the lord. Again a separate thought that in no way relates to the death. Just freaken strange to me.

I was a big fan of Cunningham's while he was here in Minnesota. Very sad. :lmao:

We use an old horse trough (sp) at my church. But we don't baptize young children.

Exactly, as a father of four, i couldnt imagine. Unfortunately, you hear about stuff like this happening far too much once the summer rolls around. I refused to get a pool when my kids were young for just this very reason. You do not have to be a bad parent for accidents to happen.

I know what you mean. I have 3 little ones, youngest is 3 years old. The older kids know how to swim, but the rules are no one gets in the pool without supervision. And even then, we gotta watch em like hawks. Accidents happen so quickly. I see kids struggling in public pools and the parents are busy on the cell or talking with someone, and forget the danger. They end up lucky in that usually someone with a brain is there to watch over their kids and lead them to safety. Not drawing conclusions on Cunningham. Don't know the circumstances. Whatever the case, he will live with the guilt and grief forever. Truly heartbreaking. There's no replacing a kid. It's a tragedy that is unfathomable. To those who aren't parents yet, one day you'll understand.Saying a prayer for Randall and his kin.

Very sad. I was a big fan of Cunningham growing up and it was nice to find out later on that he's a good guy as well. Thoughts out to him and his family.

Horrible news. As a dad, I can't think of much worse than losing one of my boys like this. Liek everyone else said, it';s why the kids have a no kids by the pool w/out an adult rule. But who knows what happened, really.

It's just sad. My heart goes out to them.
