Randy Moss caught all 9 targets this week (1 Viewer)

Great WR, poor leader.
And yet he has still caught 31 of 34 targets this year (7 for TD's I might add). Not really sure why his *past* leadership issues are relevant to this thread. Luckily my league dropped the "leadership" stat this season. Only ones that matter are the yards and TD's.
Thanks for the input!

He'll be a great teammate as long as the Patriots keep winning.
Which, in itself, is a great point about Moss. It's not like Keyshawn "Overrated" Johnson, whining about getting the ball. Moss doesn't care who gets the ball as long as the TEAM wins!
What was his team's record when Keyshawn whined about getting the ball?

Can someone please start a thread to talk about Gostkowski's FG conversion rate? How about Belichick's challenge record? We get it. Moss is good.

There is no doubt he's a great player having (so far) one of the best years ever at his position. But I for one can't stand watching it. John Feinstein wrote a few years ago that no matter what Barry Bond's achievements were, he wouldn't write about them becuse he simply did not like Bonds, whom he felt represented what was the worst about sports. I feel the same way about Moss. The fact that he is doing so well now only make his behavior on previous teams that much worse. What is it that we teach our children and ourselves with this man's actions? That talent trumps everything, that you should work hard only when you are motivated and ignore responsibilities otherwise, and that its OK to be a scumbag with most people so long as you produce. Its not OK with me.
Interesting. I feel the same way about Bonds. Also feel that way about TO. But love Moss. Suppose different types of antics and attitudes get under people's skin more than others. Speaking of which, I love Peyton as a player but please no more commercials, those are really getting under my skin.

Cal, you read wayyyy too much into what I posted. I said they are both gifted at what they do. Rodman was a gifted rebounder, no? Moss is a gifted WR.

Both are gifted. Rodman happened to be gifted with work ethic.
Moss is a physically gifted but fundamentally lazy player. Rodman is a physically unimpressive but extremely hard-working player.

Rodman was good at rebounding because he worked hard at it, all the time. Moss is good at WR because he has physical attributes which are unmatched by anyone else in the league.

I just cant buy the 'fundamentally' lazy bit. He just did something that had never been done in NFL history. That dates back for many, many decades of athletic history. he recorded 4 straight 100yd games in his first 4 games with new team. Of course he's gifted, but to call a guy setting NFL records in a game that requires so much stamina and athleticism, especially at the WR position where most of what those guys do is just run all night, is drastically overrating his natural gifts. You dont dominate the world's greatest athletes and set records at the highest level by being lazy in any way. Not even someone as great as Randy Moss. There's alot of work involved that you my man just arent seeing.

Which team, which time? :loco:
The one I'm thinking of is when his team was 1-15.

Can we get back to my original point? Can we agree that Rodman was a gifted rebounder?

Can we agree that Moss is a gifted WR?

You keep injecting all kind of additional information. What I said is that they are or were gifted at what they do or did (in Rodman's case).

Once again, I think the comparison is completely off-base. The only thing Moss and Rodman have in common is they have somewhat problematic personalities outside of the game. Wilt Chamberlin was a "gifted" rebounder; he was bigger and stronger than anyone else in the league. Rodman was a hard worker, who outrebounded guys bigger and stronger than he is because he worked hard and focused on developing that skill (along with defense). If you want a closer analogy:Michael Jordan:Kobe Bryant::Jerry Rice:Randy Moss

We'll agree to disagree then.

how about this: Moss and Favre have had similar ups and downs for similar reasons-both have incredible natural talents-both have AT TIMES coasted on those natural talents-both have thrived when surrounded by talented players-both have had periods of professional negligence when NOT surrounded by talented players-both are currently experiencing a renaissancenow of course this is strictly an ON THE FIELD comparison (don't wanna get into drug/alcohol abuse off the field)but i'm making the comparison to show that many talented folks have their issues, whether we find ourselves drawn to or repulsed by themps. true, dennis rodman used to guard up- but he was an athlete amongst athletes... sprinter speed, incredible strength, etc.pps. has joe buck done a pats game yet this year? he really pushed the whole 'randy is a scumbag' movement to it's highest heights with his unwarranted histrionics...

that's probably because for all the negativity associated with him, moss doesn't really carry the same hot-button issues as his fellow sports villains. not really about the ol' overblown TD celebrations, and probably too open with the media (thru the whole 'play when i wanna play' 'traffic cop-gate' 'oakland raiders' debacles). but- to each his own... i'm enjoying his renaissance.
