What's the consensus here?

While watching the #SOTU address tonight, I couldn't help but think about how galvanizing the Obama/Bill H. types are and if Hillary has this type of controlled gravitas.

I ask you FFA - where does Hillary rank here or does it even matter?

This is a non-politics question; strictly an eyeball test.

Even if you don't like her compared to most politicians she is pretty good so you have to go at least average, probably above average. Watching her swat those twats around during the benghazi email hearings thing was pretty impressive.

Appears extremely awkward and stiff a lot of the time, and any warmth or relatability feels forced and phony. Then often if you watch her eyes and mannerisms closely, she comes off as superior to whomever might be in the room. Only candidate worse in this race is Cruz imo. He could have a basement full of young slave boys and no one would be surprised.

I think Jeb is even worse than Cruz. Here's Jeb folding to a reporter; the best part is the face of the other reporter in the background.

About average. Same general class as the Mitt Romneys and Al Gores of the world. Better than anybody named Bush. Not in the same league as Obama or Clinton or Reagan.

Not at the level of Obama or her husband. But how many of these guys are? She appears competent- that's enough.
I think about the Presidents in my lifetime going back to Carter, all of these guys could hold a crowd captivated.

Even W had charisma.

I think it does matter Tim. I think most voters who are on the fence will go with someone that can command a room and get their point across.

It looked more dismissive to me. She either didn't care or didn't understand of the severity of that entire situation.

Jeb has the worst body language I've ever seen on a presidential candidate.

 at not understanding. Come on.

My favorite is when she walks on stage for a speech or rally, and then she sees someone familiar and makes the big "surprise" face with her eyebrows going up and her jaw dropping open, like - "Me? Really, you're all here to see me?"

It's the fakest thing in contemporary American politics.

Agreed 100%

He has no shot - no matter how much money he has lined up.

More fake than her fake southern accent when she's down south? Starts around 2:00 http://www.cc.com/video-clips/l7uzqg/the-daily-show-with-jon-stewart-democalypse-2016---bernie-sanders-kicks-off-his-presidential-campaign

I know everyone in the business is fake...but Hillary just seems to be a world class type of liar. A notch above the others. Hillary is one of the best ever at not answering a direct question, deflecting it and reverting to her spiel.

If I were Hillary's campaign manager I would only allow her to interview with Helen Thomas. Next to any other woman reporter she looks like an old hag.

I think she understood it perfectly. It just didn't satisfy those who thought it was this sinister, heartless cover up.

There is always time for Donald. Trump on fixing the NFL:

"Football's become soft. Football has become soft, Football has become soft like our country has become soft. What used to be considered a great tackle, violent head-on. You used to see these tackles, and it was incredible to watch. Now they tackle -- 'Oh, head-on-head collision, 15 yard [penalty]' -- the whole game is all screwed up. You say, 'Wow, what a tackle.' Bing. Flag.”

Below average. She is definitely politically savvy, but when she is on stage it always feels so scripted and phony to me. Sometimes it is downright awkward.

I think most of what Trump says has little to no substance but his stage presence gives the crowd the "rah rah" feel-good. And guarantee, as stupid as that statement is, I bet he got a huge applause.

I actually don't think her stage presence is her problem.

She is very bright. She is always well-rehearsed - maybe a bit too rehearsed. But, she has no ability to relate to people.

I met Bill Clinton once at a campaign stop in Macon GA in 1992. We had a brief conversation, but what still sticks in my mind is watching him work a crowd, and his ability to speak with (not down) to everyone he came in contact with - he could relate to everyone.

Obama strikes me as having that same ability - W, also had that kind of relatability - the infamous who would you like to have a beer with test.

Hillary is not someone who I would want to sit down and have a beer with, or even chat with - and she strikes me as someone who does not want to have a beer (or wine) or chat with anyone - unless there is money involved. Fundamentally, that is her problem. She is not likable "enough". And, for better or worse, most presidential campaigns are no different than class president elections - who do you like more? Clinton does not have enough people who like her, and there are too many people who don't like her for her to win a national election.

That was deft. And she was great in the first debate (this was after her poll numbers had plummeted and many in the Hillary thread had predicted that it was all over for her). She is not a great speaker, but seems to do her best when facing adversity. It will be interesting to see how she does leading up to Iowa.

She strikes me as easily agitated and dismissive. Fine when on script, but poor when forced to react to distractions (or things she seems as distractions).

He's all about soundbytes. He really doesn't even attemp to do substance. It works with the way media is today though.

I agree with a ton of this.

If she gets the nomination though I think she wins just because of the party line vote.

Oh, I have ZERO doubt about that.

Fake and contrived.
I think all politicians are a bit fake and contrived, but for whatever reason it seems exaggerated with her.

People place a lot of value on authenticity and genuineness, and she seems the polar opposite of those qualities.

Plus I still can't get over the whole cattle futures thing. I mean, yeah, there's been two dozen scandals since then, but that was one that held my interest because I understood how it should have worked. It's pretty obvious they just used her account to backfill already completed trades. An economist looked into it and calculated the odds a novice could have bet correctly that often was like 32 million to 1. By the time this stuff saw the light of day, the statue of limitations had run out and MSM just moved on to the next bright shiny object. But I have to admit that is the prism I have always seen her through - she is a pathological liar.

FTR, I'm a lot farther left than most FBGs. But I would never vote for her.

Paradoxically, I loved Bill. You would think I would have the same litmus test, right? But other than him being womanizer I don't find a lot of fault with him. But I always thought she had naked ambition and didn't care who she ran over, ####ed over or destroyed on her way to getting what she wanted.

She lacks the three qualities to naturally demand a presence in the room. Short, out of shape, unattractive. Pretty much the opposite of Obama.

She'll also benefit tremendously from running against one of the most repellent candidates of all time if Trump or Cruz get the nomination.

Can I ask why she doesn't do the "road trip" thing? It seems like she only does structured interviews and an occasional small crowd speaking events once a month (if that). Is she out meeting voters and just not getting the press?

Does she think she doesn't need to "shake hands and kiss babies" or is it a "sit back and wait, we've got this" kinda play?

Or, do her people know that getting on the road doesn't fit her style because she doesn't have the stage presents?

My sense has always been that Hillary is pretty bad at actually interacting with voters and the press in an unscripted manner. So her staff wisely keep her away from that sort of thing as much as possible.

Gotta be honest here -- If I were running for president, I would be even worse than Hillary. I hate making small talk with people, I hate pretending like I care about their crackpot concerns, and when I'm tired I have a hard time resisting the temptation to be a snarky ####### to people who say stupid things or ask stupid questions. So I really do "get" Hillary in that respect. But that's why I'm not in politics.

Edit: For example, others have mentioned Hillary's "Oh Hey Look It's You!" face at campaign events. I would fake that like once or twice and then just say #### it I'm not doing that anymore.

I think if Hillary loses, this is going to be the take-away of why. She just couldn't connect with the people.

They don't want to expose her to anything unscripted. No gamble. No risk anyone asks her any question they haven't approved and focus-grouped an answer to. God forbid some Joe the Plumber breaks through the line and shouts out a question that causes her to give an answer off the top of her head.

They've got the press in their pocket enough that they're playing along. Not a single moment of the campaign isn't manufactured. They assume they're up 66-33 on any opponent and don't need to rock the boat at all.

It's not even prevent defense. They know they've got possession of the ball and are clock-killing. That's all it is, clock killing. They've got exactly 300 days between today and election day. Just run out the clock with the lead.
That's a lot of clock to run out...

I see where you're coming from and am like that too, but is your reason because you think you're better than those people like she does or you're just not a people person?
