John Carlson (SEA): a reliable option for Hasselbeck who you'd figure is a better quality QB than the previous 2.

Aaron Hernandez (NE): big week 2 but on a team that uses TE's like it does RB's

Rob Gronkowski (NE): the one that was touted as the nxt big TE in NE but so far nothing, goes to show how we can trust Belichik.

Say, what ever happened to Crumpler, wasnt he an elite TE a few seasons ago?

Would you trust any of these ona regular basis or play the WW week in week out depending on matchups?

out of that list, hernandez has the most upside. i would pick him up and stash. play the matchups for now and hope he can become a regular in your lineup. brady definitely likes him tho

I'd go:

1. Hernandez is being used as a WR on a team that passes the ball well, but he has lots of competition for targets.

2. Keller might be the #1 receiver on a team that doesn't pass the ball very well.

3. Moeaki is in a similar situation to Keller, but on a worse offense.

I think Marcedes Lewis will be hit or miss. Just a gut feeling.

here is how i would rank them, fwiw. hope it helps and i will include a reason or 2 as well1. hernandez- for the reasons mentioned above2. carlson- proven and reliable te for hass. when gets in a groove watch out. i like him a hair more than keller3. keller- this guy is too streaky. he was like this last yr too. he would have some good games then post a stinker the next one. not consistent enough for me. definite upside potential tho4.meoaki- as you said, cassel seems to like this guy. i noticed the same thing as this guy seems to be his safety valve. by seasons end he could leap frog both keller and carlson. i would not be the least surprised5. marcedes- again, i dont like him in ppr leagues but a huge redzone target. so if your lg is not ppr then sure grab emi wont rank the remaining te's since i dont like em. guessing which det te to start will be a headache each week

Brandon Pettigrew is massive and is rebounding from a terrible injury. Hill seems to look to him a ton in an offense that is struggling. I wouldn't be surprised if he posts 6-10 points a game for awhile here. He is just out there way to much not to do that.

Scouting Report-Hernandez is a fascinating prospect. On one hand you have a guy who's undersized, looking more WR/H-Back than an NFL tight end, so you figure him to be a nice receiving option, especially for a team that's creative. But on the other hand, you have a guy who isn't much of a blocker and hasn't shown he can run more than a couple of routes with any consistency. The real positives of his game are his ability to find ways to get open,superb hands with excellent skills after the catch and good ball security. When you catch passes thrown by Tim Tebow you better be able to adjust to poorly thrown passes and be able to use body control to make the play. Hernandez has shown he can do both. He looks very smooth and much faster than he times in the open field, striding almost like a small forward on the field. He's got long arms and is a good leaper and is much faster than you see in shorts.

Draft Status-With more and more teams wanting to spread the field and throw it around, a player like Hernandez is definitely in fashion. Where he suffers in this draft is, guys like Rob Gronkowski and Jermaine Gresham can do all he can do in the passing game and more, while at the same time being huge targets and can in-line block. Still, Hernandez is almost certainly a day one pick on potential alone and should find a buyer near the end of the second round.

Final Analysis-We all have the image of Hernandez catching those inside screen passes from Tebow and him just booking it up the middle of the field. An impressive player no doubt, but your signature play needs to translate better to the NFL. I do think that his fluid athleticism and soft hands will serve him well in the NFL. He's not going to be able to line up tight and run block for a team. But he's a big target and has shown to be an exceptional wide out, and he'll be in demand on that alone. We've seen plenty of teams who can take H-Back guys like this and integrate them into the offense. He's going to have to put in the work in the film room and on the practice field learning to run more routes, and he's going to have to hit the weight room and get stronger not only to help run block but also to work against big strong NFL linebackers. If he can do those things, where I see him doing the most damage is in the red zone where he can find his spots and get open and make the tough catch.

Reminds me of: Dustin Keller, TE New York Jets-Both a little undersized, and both exceptional receiving targets. Both guys are also underwhelming as run blockers.

i just reviewed what waldman had to say and compared notes. for the most part, its similar but waldman loves this guy a ton. and he made a great call in recommending hernandez as a late rd flier in redrafts this yr. kudos, matt

Jahvid Best will be getting a lot of attention out of the backfield from linebackers which should help Pettigrew a ton. You could see on a few of Petti's catches that Hill was looking out of the corner of his eye for Best but a linebacker was blanketing him and Petti was wide open in the middle of the field. Due to the big play ability of Best and Calvin defenses are going to have to give up the underneath stuff to Pettigrew and seam routes will be there also from time to time.

2/15/1 - Nothing huge fantasy wise but hes in like 90% of the goal line plays, he will for sure get more touchdowns than Hernandez.

San Diego makes every Tight End look like a superstar.I can't really get behind Lewis 'cause he's been historically inconsistent but you could do worse and he is getting plenty of targets.I think Keller has the most upside of any of the guys in this list. I'd be pursuing him in any league where he's available and I have a TE with early performance concerns ala Witten, Gonzo, Daniels, Celek.Hernandez is a potential stud in the making. He's a perfect TE backup for Dallas Clark owners in light of his matchup with San Diego in Week 7 (Indy's bye week).Pettigrew will have potential to contribute so long as Burleson remains out of the lineup for Detroit and they run 2-TE sets all game long.Carlson's a must-start this week.

I chose Hernandez for that bigger upside to Keller IMO.

Runs well to get open and after the catch. 2 weeks in a row with a 40+ yard reception.

On a team with Welker and Moss, he does not get the coverage attention so should be a solid play most weeks.

Both are solid plays.

1. Hernandez - I was big on him coming into the season. It's a perfect fit, and Gronkowski is not a threat - in fact helps him because Gronk is a better blocker.

2. Keller - as Manish Mehta and others suggested, could be the leading receiver on this team. It's crowded though, and I expect Santonio to be a big part of this offense moving forward - bigger than Braylon was. So, we'll see.

I start Moss.I think you should be fine with Gresham though.Id like to have had him, I picked up Brandon Jackson instead last week and the next owner snatched up Gresham.Hopefully Daniels does turn it around. He could be great value if he does (I waited on a TE after I missed out on Finley and then Shiancoe).

Lovin' this thread as I own Carlson, Keller AND just recently Hernandez. I am weak at WR and might be willing to move one to upgrade at that position. I play in a keeper league with roster limits and I can only keep one going into next year so keep the info coming guys, this is great.

If I had to pick one out of that group I would take Carlson or Keller. Seattles WRs are weak and Carlson should get plenty of looks. Keller will be up and down because of the Jets style of play but should have some nice games like last week.NE has a number of TEs that could been involved on different weeks.
